Police Brutality Thread

Just like I though, a bunch of agent provocateurs...most likely white...

That was for St. Paul, not Minneapolis.

Very, very, very important distinction.

You also don't clarify that St. Paul was for the most part quiet and so there was only a small amount of arrests to begin with.

Posts and comments like this, either purposefully or otherwise, just further lead to more misinformation.

The few people with live streams over 20,000 people covering the protests in Minneapolis have debunked this numerous times.

Ok, however even in Minneapolis I have heard that there are people who are maybe not there to do the right thing exactly.

I mean I can totally buy that tons of people would love to discredit the movement...

Edit: And even if most arrest records show that people arrested were in state they could still be agent provocateurs. Tell me one reason why they could not be?

Absolutely, they could. But that's not how your post read.

And, I also agree, there are tons of people that want to discredit the movement.

But, don't try to push it with misinformation - wait until the actual data comes out, and I'm sure at some point it will.

I think this would be most relevant in the crowd who damaged the CNN headquarters at this point, but again, even there - it's too controversial to even attempt to make solid conclusions yet.

My guess is the Minneapolis mayor will shortly try to latch on to what the St. Paul mayor said in regards to this, but we shall see.

However I still am suspicious of any white people (even tho I am white Hispanic myself) looting as a) they were not harmed by this and have not been oppressed for their skin color for 400 years, and b) who knows that their true intentions are, regardless of what they say.

I'm white myself, and grew up in an inner city in poverty, so I've seen these issues my whole life.

Although I'm not suspicious of all white people there, as I can see why many white people want these social injustices to stop - including myself, like with every race: there will always be some bad apples.

I'm starting to get seriously concerned about the institution of martial law if things continue like they are right now...

Trump knows if he does it now, he'll never get reelected. They will have to exhaust literally every possible option before even considering it.

At Trump's request though, the Pentagon has put military police on notice.

Something you won't see on the news:

Black cop punching white woman in the head from behind

Does this feel "different" from the previous iterations of angry uprising resulting from the death of an African American at the hands of police?
Is it just me?
Is this the incident that finally breaks the camel's back?

Agreed, I think the video captured so perfectly the problems, with people begging and pleading for the cops to stop with no recourse - this is different this time, without a doubt. The anger I feel inside just thinking about watching the video reinforces, to me, what I'm saying I believe to be true

If she was white, then I'm black...
LOL yea my bad she's actually black.
I guess I truly don't see color :P

Truck drivers are now saying that they won't drive in certain places overnight which will put more strain on already extremely fragile and damaged supply lines.

In Center City Philadelphia there are riots and looting. What this video does not show is that a lot of local businesses were destroyed and looted. :( I did not film this.

While the murder of George Floyd is disgusting and never should have happened, the rioting, burning, and looting just makes the message get completely lost.

Yea, this is wayyy heavier

There's at least 20 cities with major incidence going on,I don't recall it ever sprawling out so.much from the central incident

No it doesn't. It reveals what USA society deems more important. You know what people/society care about? Selling you shit. They care about the ability to buy chocolate milk and get their smiley fries or whatever. No one gives a fuck about some foot mobile n1gger.

I mean Minnesota or wherever the fuck doesn't even have a civilian inquiry board for the police. WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Time to burn down the White House.

I'm hoping this doesn't become a nationwide series of riots
I'm afraid I have some bad news...:(

As many have said, this cannot be seen in isolation as a white v black incident, there are many known and unknown variables.

Powderhorn ("the incident occurred during Floyd's arrest in Powderhorn, a neighborhood south of downtown Minneapolis" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_George_Floyd) has a way-above average crime rate (https://www.areavibes.com/minneapolis-mn/powderhorn+park/demographics/).
NOTE - I am not familiar with Minneapolis so am unsure if Powderhorn is the same as Powderhorn Park.
As the area has a high crime rate, it stands to reason that the police may act more aggressively towards a black, brown or white suspect in that area than they would in more affluent black, brown or white areas.

We don't know what Derek Chauvin's upbringing was like. Was he raised in a racist environment whereby he may have developed a nurtured tendency against non-whites? Was he raised in a violent environment whereby he may of developed an ideology that excessive violence is OK in certain circumstances? I think the latter holds true as "The former Minneapolis police officer seen in a video with his knee on George Floyd's neck had 18 prior complaints filed against him with the Minneapolis Police Department's Internal Affairs, according to the police department" - https://edition.cnn.com/2020/05/28/us/minneapolis-officer-complaints-george-floyd/index.html.

So, I AM NOT CONDONING THIS HORRIFIC ACT IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM, what we have here are all the essential ingredients for this type of terrible event to take place.
  • A suspect, quite a large one at that "Mr. Floyd is over six feet tall and weighs more than 200 pounds" - https://www.hennepinattorney.org/-/media/Attorney/Derek-Chauvin-Criminal-Complaint.pdf (page 2), being apprehended by an known-aggressive police officer in a known high-crime area
  • It is further reported that "Mr. Floyd did not voluntarily get in the car and struggled with the officers by intentionally falling down, saying he was not going in the car, and refusing to stand still." - https://edition.cnn.com/2020/05/29/us/derek-chauvin-criminal-complaint-trnd/index.html which is possibly born out by the CCTV footage - "Surveillance footage from a nearby restaurant appeared to contradict police claims, with Floyd shown falling twice while being escorted by the officers" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_George_Floyd. It is mentioned whether Mr. Floyd fell before or after he was taken to the police cruiser. This falling down may have been perceived as non-cooperation by Chauvin causing his levels of aggression to increase.
  • A crowd of onlookers filming the incident, perhaps further inciting Chauvin
Would Chauvin have acted this way in the same area with a white or Hispanic suspect? Who knows? IMO, I don't think there would have been this much hysteria (media and public) if George Floyd had been white though. This leaves me wondering who has the most to benefit from this hysteria?

I do honestly hope that these tragic events will at least benefit the balancing out of some social inequalities, or a least contribute a little, so that Floyd's death and the destruction that has followed in its wake isn't meaningless.
