get a consistent monthly hook up of 17 opana er 20's on top of every thing else. Have for around 10 months exact time every month. I smoke a decent amount of cigs on top of this. The last 4 months every time I have gotten them that time of the month I have gotten pneumonia. This last month I did not smoke cigs and still got it after I snorted them within a 5 day period. I had to go to the ER because I couldnt catch my breath(the worst feeling in the world). Since then I have taken the medicine quit smoking and snorting(sucks) and i am good as gold.

Do yall think there is a correlation here? I am the last person in the world to want to believe my favorite substance is such an immediate impairment to my health!

It sounds a little bizarre.. insufflated drug should be absorbed by the nasal mucosa. If it isn't (eg if you snort a too-large-line or snort it too quickly) then it tends to drip down your throat and into your stomach, not your lungs. Fillers and binders should go down this route too, and usually take a bit of time to drip down.. Your epiglottis should stop them from entering your lungs unless you snort really fast and they shoot straight through the nasal cavity, down the back of your throat and into your windpipe.. never heard of it before but it is possible! This could definitely irritate your lungs, and if there were bacteria on the pills you could potentially introduce them this way.. all sounds a little far fetched but definitely theoretically possible..

Were you diagnosed with definite pneumonia in the ER? really sorry to hear about all your illnesses! Personally I'd put it down to smoking (so being susceptible) and coincidence,.. or maybe contact with different people or sharing a snorting I appreciate that for it to happen 4 times in a row is a little odd. I'm not aware that opiates knock your immune system out, but shall have a quick investigate later..

Sounds like you've done the right thing by stopping snorting, but if you try it again snort a thin line slooooooowly with a clean snorter which you don't share with anyone else (not a rolled up banknote passed around!) and give your nose a saline spray/snort some saline in between lines..

Good work on quitting smoking!! :D <3

Okay so this post just made me realize something that could be my downfall. I always lick the coating off and snort the still slightly moistened powders deeply. I always use a clean straw. The ER doc fed me some jargon about how opana eats away at the lining in your lung tissue that never rejuvenates. I dont know what to think. Thanks for the reply!

Hm. We don't have Opana here, so am not an expert on it and it's ingredients but small particles of anything in your lungs isn't good, it can irritate them and cause inflammation which could eventually lead to scarring..

This thread has made me realise I have no idea what percentage of a heavily-snorted line you might expect to inhale. Had always assumed it was negligible but actually I have no idea. Always assumed most particles of drug would be stopped by the nasal mucus and turbinates (protrusions inside your nose, it isn't just empty space - the passage is pretty narrow) but in theory smaller particles certainly could reach the lungs..

I'd snort thin lines slowly for maximum nasal absorption. Snorting moistened powder will mean it is more likely to clump up and stick inside your nose rather than flying into your lungs I would imagine.

you snort something, some of it's gonna end up in your lungs.

the health effects of insufflated opana ER are in hot debate.

Yeah it's so obvious but it honestly hadn't occurred to me before that much could end up in your lungs. Dunno why!

Hadn't heard about the health issues with insufflated Opana, is it the drug itself or the binders in the pill?

^binders in the pill. with opana ER, people specifically mention silicified microcrystalline cellulose and silicosis.

I used to be prescribed Opana ER 20mg bid. I got into the habit of snorting it for about a month. After a few weeks, I started noticing that I would randomly get chest tightness and difficulty breathing. I was also insuffing roxycodone too (Along with smoking a pack of cigarettes [menthol] per day). Anyway, I attributed the breathing problems to my anxiety problems at first. By this time I had stopped snorting both. And then I thought about it, and noticed that the chest/lung discomfort started a few weeks after messing with the Opana ER in such a way. After I stopped that ROA though, in about 3 or 5 weeks, I didnt have the lung problems anymore. IMHO, I believe there is a major correlation between that ROA of Opana ER and lung problems. I came to this conclusion because I had been using that ROA for roxycodone for years, and the only thing that was different, was the fact that I added the Opana ER to the mix, and as mentioned, after discontinuation, it took about 3-5 weeks for me to not notice the discomfort. I know that Opana ER uses a special type of time release mechanism (TimerX I think), so when you think about it, using that ROA with Opana ER without attempting to circumvent the system, youre putting a CRAP TON of stuff all in your respiratory system. [Also keep in mind the fact of respiratory depression associated with even general opiate use]. In the end: Yes, I believe that there is a correlation
