PMA EZ Test Reaction?????

Can anyone please tell me if PMA will turn orange with the EZ test? As an amphetamine I would expect so, but not being a chemist I am not sure of the reactions necessary for a colour change.
This would be useful to know as in Australia we have had a batch of fakes containing PMA and now the rumour mill is fuelling it constantly.

Called paramethoxyamphetamine (PMA) or 4 - methoxyamphetamine. In Perth Western Australia one person is alleged to have died after taking a pill containing PMA. Reports state that it is 3 times the strength of ecstasy (I assume they mean MDMA).
It would be useful to know which colour it turns the EZ test.
Recent post in Australia - NZ discussion titled 'fooling the EZ test' began the discussion on PMA.

Also found something which referred to it giving the chemical compound:
4-methoxy-alpha-methylphenylethylamine dunno if that is the long version!

Well I have long suspected the olympic series of pills in australia contained pma....they gave a totally different symptom to speed or mdxx, kept you up for days and gave you the worst comedown (like heart felt like it was beating way too fast, pins and needles in hands)....
Anyway we tested one of these using an e-z test and it went orange which kind of makes sense as it is an amphetamine based chemical...
 
i think it will turn orange.
the main point however is it will NOT turn black, and so as always sticking with the purple/black reaction, which is what most of us want anyway, is the safest way to go.
 
I am currently trying to find out what reaction PMA will give.
First thought was that as a Speed like substance it will NOT go purple but we are trying to verify it.

Everything I know is that PMA gives green on Mandelin's test. Most amphetamines turns to orange on Marquis, ie. TMA. But also some tryptamines, like AMT (orange->brown).
 
green is a possibility..
2-CB's chemical name is 4-bromo-2,5-dimethoxyphenylethylamine
i originally assumed that it was the bromine atom which reacted to give the green colour.
if its the methoxy groups however then PMA would go green.
additionally many other drugs, e.g mescaline would go green too.
and many compounds related to 2-CB would also go green, e.g DOB which can be VERY dangerous..so be careful with green reactions too...i seriously believe if its anything other than black don't take it.
 
Yes, that is exactly what the EZ Test is made for.
Darkpurple/almost black should be OK.
Any other color tells you that the sample contains something else.
What ??

AJ--In light of the recent "infestation" of PMA and the Chicago death associated with it,I am humbly requesting that you guys put the PMA reaction question at the top of your list. Even if you could say for certain that PMA does not turn purple or black.

Not to question your knowledge Phreex, but is this the theoretical result or have you (or someone you trust) tested a pill that was known for certain to be PMA ?

We definitely need some of you chemists out there to get on the case....PMA is a real worry if ya don't know your taking it.
Are you sure about the no change...Phreex? Is there any way of identifying it is there then?
 
PMA: Mandelin's test - green
MDA: Sulfuric acid test - purple
Marquis test - blue-black
Mandelin's test - green -> blue
Also amphetamine and d-meth gives some kind of green color
with this test.
Mandelin's Test:
Reagent: Dissolve 0.5 g of ammonium vanadate in 1.5 ml of
water and dilute to 100 ml with sulfuric acid. Filter solution
through glass wool.
Method: Add a drop of the reagent to the sample on a white tile.

I am a young rave reporter trying to keep teens informed on this pressing issue. Has PMA been tested in the EZ-Test or the Accutest? These are the 2 most readily available testing kits for the average consumer, having no access to lab materials. The color-change issue for these two products would be most helpful. It is very important to get this information out, before we suffer any more fatalities. My worry is that PMA is close enough to MDMA to fool these kits.
