This is a bit unrelated, but I noticed in some of the replies that the hole on the side of the pipe is being called a 'carb' .. I'm just interested because I've never heard it called that before! We call it a choke here. Just curious if anybody else uses or has heard the term choke for it?

My crowd of people call it a carb. I've also heard it called a choke, and a rush, as someone else said in an earlier post. Just local differences.

But on topic, keep at it man. Try to get some better pot. The really good shit is expensive, but it'll be fluffy, a nice color green, have red hairs all over it, small white crystals, and smell way better than any hard bricky shit you're probably smoking. Also it'll have very few seeds. It takes some people a lot of tries before they get high, but you'll get there.

You might try smoking cigarettes, I smoked before I tried weed, and I got high my first time smoking a joint. Not sure if that makes a difference... Hmm might make a good poll.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was good weed... had white hairs, was green, but didn't smell as potent as the second time's pot. Also might help to know it's norcal weed.

I think it's just me not inhaling properly, and hating the taste of the stuff.

Is carb short for carburetor? I think that would make sense because its mixing air with smoke (instead of jet fuel).

I never bought that myth. Noobs just cant smoke properly and dont know what they are looking for. Remember most people who try weed are just young kids who havnt tried anything and dont know anything.

I didn't get high the first time I smoked. There is a huge difference between the effects of smoking pot and drinking alcohol, and not feeling high the first time you smoke pot seems to be a fairly common occurrence.
