About 7 years ago, I managed to stay clean for 3 years, taking Subs for the first year and a half. Under a doc's supervision, I tapered from 24mg a day to zero over the course of a year and a half and then stayed clean the rest of the time. Ever since, I haven't been able to nod or even really get a buzz from dope. I don't think it's the dope cuz people around me are getting off without a problem. I have managed to OD a number of times but just can't properly get high anymore, even doing gram shots multiple times a day. All I can think of is that it's a longterm side effect from the Subs, like it somehow disabled my receptors. If anyone knows whether this is possible or probable, or has had the same thing happen, I'd like to hear about it. All I really get is that burn/itch in my face, hands, and feet. Really disappointing. I've been shooting dope since 1994 so I guess it could be tolerance too...however I've taken significant breaks.

Have you tried any other opiates/opioids since then, or just heroin?

Maybe you just don't enjoy the high anymore. You mentioned overdosing. Are you saying that you have overdosed since getting clean from the suboxone and while not really feeling the high? If so it just seems that you don't enjoy heroin anymore, and I suggest giving it up if you are overdosing without even feeling high.

For what it's worth, I was on the same dose of suboxone as you and for the same duration, and once my tolerance dropped after being clean for a while (3 months or so) I was able to get high just fine, and enjoy it the same as before, other than the issue of raised tolerance.

i wouldnt be surprised if bupe has some effects that last a lot longer than we are familiar with. maybe even some permanent changes.

im not claiming anything, but i suspect there is a lot more to this substance than we understand right now...

ive noticed my cravings are not as pronounced as they used to be, and the highs are not as rewarding, but it could just be 'growing up'...

I have heard of this happening, a lot of people have told me about this exactly. I think the drug does cause permanant alterations to your opiate receptors.

I have heard of this happening with Naltrexone too.
