people always ask me to repeat myself while rolling

It always bugs me while rolling that people often ask me to repeat myself after saying something, and I can never figure out whether it's because I say something intended to be loud quietly, or I'm slurring, or they aren't paying attention due to the notorious short attention span while rolling.

I've had this happen in many quiet situations away from music which rules out it just being too loud and distracting around. At the time I always forget to ask WHY they want me to repeat myself haha.

does anyone have any experience of this also? Ive never had a friend talk abnormally quietly or slur massively on mdma so what do you guys reckon?

I feel like when people roll they talk like they are saying something extremely important, and are fairly easy to understand compared to other drugs. Unless they are chewing their face off and talking a mile a minute.

With MDMA there's definitely that magic sweet spot dose on the lower to moderate end where it just seems like my communication is so brilliant, flawless, and eloquent. Like I'm expressing myself effortlessly and perfectly and the other person understands me perfectly and everyone is just on the same wavelength. I find when I push the dosage that tends to deteriorate. It's definitely a bilateral scenario. It could be the way you're speaking if you're rolling hard and it could also be the way the other person comprehends you’re speech you if they're rolling too hard. I agree with you that, because people don't overtly slur their words or talk unusually quiet, the disruption is probably largely on the receiving end. I find that when I roll very hard I have a hard time comprehending people not only because of my shortened attention span, but also just because I'm so absorbed by the sheer intensity of the sensations. It just reaches a certain point where it envelopes me and then everything in the external world seems somewhat distant. Like what’s going on inside is so strong that it commands my full attention. I guess it's what some people call swooning and it only ever happens to me if I’m rolling very hard. It’s not like an out-of-body experience, but it can feel dissociative. And dissociative drugs definitely wreak havoc with my ability to comprehend people.

If you're in a loud club environment it can be really hard to hear people. I've had it happen loads of times.

it could be that you're talking too fast, that your speech is slurred or that you're only making sense in your own mind.
but it could as well be that they just forgot what you just said (which occurs often and ime starts at lower doses than slurring or talking nonsense). "A: 'what were we just talking about?' B: 'i have no idea'" is a pretty classic thing ocurring in many conversations on mdma :)

Its really hard for me to focus when im rolling. They probably just lose concentration and forget what you said. Or you could be slurring or talking funny i guess. Why so much talking though? i cant talk when im rolling, music and lights is it for me.... Oh and vicks

The phenomenon of having an un-self-perceived speech impediment is sometimes heard from people using substituted amphetamines, true amphetamines and various associated stimulants. Happened to me with MDMA but also with ethylphenidate and dicholoromethylphenidate (aka 3,4-CTMP). The latter two are not amphetamines but rather congeners of methylphenidate. Makes me theorize that the problem may be related to general stimulant activity over speech control centers in the brain and unrelated to the deleriant effects of many substituted amphetamines/cathinones since non-deleriant or "clean" stims can also trigger the problem. I have also read that bruxism may play a part but haven't researched this avenue yet. I can only surmise it's possible that partial jaw clenching could impede clear elocution however this should be perceived by the person talking.

Funny coincidence that I should encounter this thread today. I went to a music festival with a mate this weekend and we rolled together there. I spent the entire roll and the day after telling him to speak up and articulate his words more as he was really mumbling and mispronouncing words. He can't help it though, he always gets this during and after a roll and if you don't remind him constantly you won't understand a word he is saying. He's the only person I know that gets this after a roll as well though, with others it's usually during a roll, not afterwards. It is pretty common with MDMA I think
