i was wrong. the bill was amended on april 8th to include "if both have attained the age of majority" i.e. 18

good to see tennessee's attempt to legalize pedophilia fail.

Of course they won't. Their entire right-wing pedophile/groomer/recruiter/trafficker/whatever narrative is pure and unadulterated bullshit and they know it. The republicans don't actually give even half a shit about kids, and they never have. If they did, they wouldn't be so completely unwilling to lift so much as their pinky fingers to put a stop to school shootings, childhood hunger and poverty, bullying, tearing children away from their parents and locking them in cages and, yes, child brides.

Their current "groomer" narrative is nothing more than a mad-lib of the same talking points from their "recruiter" narrative from when I was a kid myself... and even that narrative was just one of many they would switch between as their excuse to hate on LGBT people. For example, before they decided in the '90s to spread their lie that LGBT are all a bunch of pesos, their story was... and I am not making this up, you can google it specifically in reference to Disneyworld and Florida... that LGBT people were to blame for any hurricanes or tornados that fucked shit up. Their claim was that said weather was the result of "god" punishing Florida for allowing Disney to get away with refusing to endorse their hate and employing and not discriminating against LGBT people.

What was true and what was lies is the same now as it was back then. No one "recruited" me to be gay. No one "groomed" me to be gay. I just am. And if it *were* possible to "recruit" or "groom" someone into a sexuality, there would be no LGBT people at all; because the social pressure at all levels growing up in this country to be hetro is overwhelming. The right were BS-ing liars then, just like they are BS-ing liars now.

I'd actually consider that honest indifference to be more respectable than the fake outrage from the goons who just use children as their weapons. I mean... I'm pretty much indifferent to them myself. I don't have any. I don't want any. I don't think I'd be a particularly good parent, so I don't think I should have any. Because of a bout of cancer, I'm not even sure I could have any if I did want them. On that point, I've never bothered to get tested because I don't want any. And I'm gay, so barring SciFi nanotech or anime magic, it's a biological impossibility (And, as far as I'm concerned, that's one of the advantages to being gay.) even if I'd never had cancer.

I do feel a general responsibility to leave a better world for future generations than mine was given, particularly for my chosen communities (geeks/nerds and LGBT people). Giving LGBT people an easier and less discriminatory life than I had is part of that; and why I vehemently oppose and despise people like DeSantis, Abbott, and their various imitators, supplicants, supporters, enablers, and definitely their legislation. I'm nice to my friends' and family's kids. But otherwise? If the republicans would knock off their bullshit and stop weaponizing children with their fake narratives and accusations against me and mine; I'd cheerfully go back to mostly ignoring the fact that children are a thing in the first place.

I really don't know if that's true through. If it is, it's a negligible amount.

I get that a lot of left wing politics provides cover for this shit these days, but organized religion has been doing that for centuries. And the vast majority of religious people are "conservatives ".

What I'm actually triggered by is the incessant need to politicize every issue into red team vs blue team, even an issue like this that has ruined countless lives. We should be able to call people out on either side, on all sides. If you make a choice to prioritize politics in these situations I think it says a lot about you.
