For any interested parties, the thread about and encouraging safe disclosing of people's stories has been created in TDS. It is a place for validation of lived experience and where survivors can cast off shame and self blame by hearing words of encouragement by forum members.
It may help them take their first steps towards disclosing to loved ones in the real world.
Please, if you truly want to make a difference in this constant fight, consider also visiting that thread and looking at accounts when it gets more traffic. Maybe leave a comment. The most amazing act in the face of pedophilia is believing the victim without any shadow of a doubt.
Practice holding space for victims in this thread so perhaps when a person in your life chooses you as a safe person, you are well equipped with the skills you need to help them through that part of their journey.
I agree some survivors deal with trauma by becoming hyperalert of pedophilia and that is possibly what this thread entails as I know some people commenting are victims. But for others I don't know.
And I would challenge you to do something tangible for survivors and really make a difference, because in my sad life experience, everyone hates a pedophile until their uncle/grandpa/neighbour/friend/coach/clergyman is one. Then suddenly the child is making up stories.
And I grew up with a parent who painted me as a pathological liar who couldn't remember the past. I'm never to succeed.
But others can.
