Well, I had another phone appt with my doctor. I'm bed bound so I can only do phone appts. I asked him again if I could try oxycodone because a transverse myelitis specialist who has done studies says that oxycodone has shown much success with nerve pain from damaged nerves. And again my doctor said no. I've been taking hydrocodone for 8yrs now and it has stopped helping my savage electric burning pain in my lower body. I feel utterly defeated and pissed off.
Thanks for listening.
Gabapentin and lyriac are design to treat nerve pain. There are other meds that is usually for effective than oxycodone for nerve pain. Tho oxy is nice to have when/if needed.
I have nerve pain too. Some in my left foot because the idiot doctor was doing nerve block and stuck this needle into my foot and then twisted the needle 180° instead of pulling it out and getting a new needle. You know medical pros know that they are only supposed to stick you once per needle so as to avoid infection of the ejection sights. Cheap, money grubbing, lazy jerk. When he twisted the needle to face other direct I felt him cut thru some thing and with in a minute of so I started getting a spiral shape on top of my foot where whatever he cut, sprung back too. That brused then turned into shingles...the shingles didn't hurt, it just itch a lot. Ever since that day my foot feels like it's being crushed and cut into pieces with one of those wire cheese cutters. The nerve pain stops. My pain management says there is nothing she can do since it doesn't show on x-rays and MRIs.
Oxycodone doesnt even touch the pain in my foot. I might as well be eating candy trying to treat the foot pain with oxy.
I also have full body nerve pain. Luckily oxy does help a little with that. I was in the hospital for CDIFF. Nobody but my family knew I was sick. The doctors kept telling me to quit faking all because my PCP put a note in my file saying I just wanted attention. I was sick with CDIFF for about a year. When the ER finally admitted me and got my test results back, the doctor said that I should be dead because nobody should be alive with my results. I was septic that the doc said the pain would only get worse as I got older. He said that my blood was so acidic that it was like my nervous was ripped out, stuck in a vat of acid and then put back in. I'm on almost total bed rest for about 15 years now. Before the government start screwing with everything and I was still on those huge dosages, I was getting ready to find a new job buy now with all the cuts in my meds, I'm stuck on bed rest

I don't know the type of doctor you see but if it's a PCP that could be the reason for saying no to the oxy. PCP don't like prescribing narcotics because they don't want the government poking their noses into everything. You want to try a pain management specialist. They like prescribing narcotics lol but beware the lawyers whose sit or work with the board. They like screwing people over. You know how the doctors always say that if you take Xanax, or any benzo, and opioids that you'll die lol. They say that because the government, CDC and DEA told them too. My one pain doc let me have my Xanax even tho I was on opioids. She said as long as my psychiatrist kept into touch it was just fine to take both and then the board and lawyers found out. I had to be off the Xanax until my urine test came back negative. It was a month before I could do the urine test and almost 2 months to get the results. The whole time, the board and lawyers wouldn't let my doctor prescribe my oxy. They forced me to stop both cold turkey. My psychiatrist was enraged about it.
If you do find a doctor to give you oxy, don't them trick you. There's those guide lines from the CDC or something that if you take Soma, opioids, and benzos together you'll die. Or any two of the meds will kill you. Now if your doctor says something like that and you feel like being a smart *so, just point out that the guidelines are just that, guidelines, not laws like the doctor might claim. Also, on the dosaging, the doctor try to tell you its against the law to prescribe over 90 equivalent mg of morphine a day. 90 mg of morphine equals 45mg of oxy a day. Point out that the 90mg or less is only for short term use, like getting a tooth pulled or breaking a bone. There is no limit for long term use except for the doctor personal judgment. Some of my doctors took this news calmly but some got mad that I knew the guidelines better than them.
If you can't get oxy or someother narcotic, you might try Soma. Its very addictive, more so than oxy, at least in my case. Soma helps pain, anxiety and muscle spasms, plus its great for sleep or just being lazy lol. 3 or 4 Soma a day worked wonders for me until I developed and allergy to it. Be careful if you do get Soma. I was having a cig one day and fell asleep from the Soma, by the time I woke up my cig had melted a huge whole in my leg. The cool thing was I had taken that Soma about 3 hours before that happened and I never felt a thing.
I'm sorry about your doctor being an *ss. BTW, hydrocodone sucks!!!! Aspirin would give better relief. If you aren't seeing a pain management doctor, try tricking your current doctor. It's like going to a swap meet or something. You need to haggle. Start with a big bid like asking for oxytocin or fentanyl, but hope he/she doesn't agree with the oxytocin because after they changed it to make it harder to snort, it's gives less relief than hydrocodone. If you can't find a place to get the old stuff, get the oxytocin. You'll be pain, what pain?!?! I don't even remember having pain. Why is my face numb lol. Seriously, if you can find the old formula you'll be back to your normal life, once you get used to it.. if he/she says no then try for the fentanyl patches. Keep trying for the super powerful narcotics so when he/she is done saying no to all the others, oxycodone will seem reasonable.
The only problem with oxycodone IR (instant release) is that the IR part is a lie. It can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours before it kicks in. You see, oxycodone can't be used by your body until your liver process it and turns it into a chemical the body can use. Just pray you don't have a liver condition like me. Sometimes my liver says "nope, I'm not converting this so I guess you're screwed." Or it says "let's not do the normal conversion and see if I can make some other types a chemicals.
I'm surprised that you having been prescribed morphine injections. A few people I know, that aren't on constant bed rest, but still trapped in their houses get the morphine.
Well it looks like my oxy is working this morning the way I've rambled on. I know pain rather well. I'm just shy of 50 but I've been trapped to endless pain since a was 21.
Do you know where your nerve damage is?? It's amazing what medical science can do today. They may be able to bypass the damage. If they can get a quadriplegic to walk by bypassing the damage to the spine, they might be able to help you. Yeah, he only walked a few steps on those parallel bars. There's always hope.
