Ok, here's my situtation ... I've been a pain management patient for nearly the past two years. Each month I find my script lasting less and less. I usually run out of my 30 day oxy script in about 15-16 days, saving 1 or 2 for the PM drug testing (usually). I've already been lectured by my PM doc once for failing the test (had no oxy in my system), so he usually tests me monthly to "make sure I'm on track".
Last month, after my last appointment, I decided that I was going to start seeing a new PM doctor that is closer to my work. Recently, a co-worker of mine started seeing him and she was very complimentary of how easy he was to talk to. In fact, according to her, he gave her the option of being scripted any meds she would like. According to this doc's online reviews, "he is a great script doc". About 2 weeks ago, I scheduled an appointment to see him (no previous medical records necessary, only a current MRI). This is no problem for me cos I have well documented and legit back problems.
Rewind to a week ago today, I had run out of my oxy from my previous doc and was feeling beyond sick. I sucked it up as much as I could, but it was really taking a toll on my work. After some online research and several days of sickness, I found a same day appointment to a local suboxone doctor. A few hundred bucks later, I had a same day script from the subs doc. I actually ended up with several 1 day scripts while they were awaiting a prior approval from my insurance company.
The subs have definitely helped, no question about it. The negatives: a little nausea and how fucking expensive they are. They scripted me several days worth of 8mg strips. So far, I haven't even picked up the 30 day script that my insurance DID cover. At this point, I'm undecided if I will stay on the subs or return to the oxycodone.
Here's my question. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon with my new "script doctor". Prior to the subs, I was hoping he'd end up being my new oxy doc. Again, I haven't picked up the 30 day script from the pharmacy that my insurance did approve. If I were to decided to go to the "script/oxy doctor" tomorrow, would I be doing anything wrong as far as doctors and/or the law is concerned? *** To clarify, I am not asking what to say to my doctor to get drugs. *** I don't need to "say" anything because I do have a current MRI and a legitimate back condition. Having been on subs for a few days and not knowing if they're what I see myself on for the long-term, is going back to oxy an option as far as a doctor would be concerned?
According to the clinic that scripted me the subs, my records are confidential. There is a database in my state that docs can see what I have been prescribed, but according to the clinic, I would have to sign a release for anybody other than a pharmacist to see this. Am I well within my rights to go to the PM doc and decide against the subs or would this be considered a red flag with potential repercussions? It may seem silly, but I honestly don't know.
I'd really appreciate some feedback!
