Oxy Script to Methadone

I am constantly on BL, but don't post often. I'm looking for comments, suggestions, etc. on the path I am wanting to go on at this point.

I am currently in PM and get 240 oxy IR/month, Lyrica & MS Contin. I have post-herpetic neuralgia which I will probably have for life. I usually run out in 2 weeks; a bit longer if I'm lucky. I do this every month and I'm sick of it. I want out.

About 3 or so yrs ago, I did rehab when I first got addicted to hydrocodone. That was before I was on PM & was pretty much doctor shopping & got "caught." After I finished that, I was maybe a few months before I started up again & during those few months I was a complete mess emotionally.

I know I have to be on something. I know I can't go this w/o either Methadone or Suboxone, but I don't think my PM doc can give me Sub. I don't even know if he's going to agree w/ the Methadone idea, but I want to continue to take my Lyrica, so that's why I'm waiting to see if my PM doc will put me on Methadone instead of just going to a Meth clinic.

Does this sound like the best thing for me to do?

Talk to your doctor about this and see what he thinks. It can't hurt to have a conversation about it and you don't want to make a decision like this without consulting a professional. You don't want to do something that could end up doing more harm than good.

Thanks for the reply. I will talk to my doc about this. I've left messages w/ an MMT place here in town & then one doc who does Methadone & Sub treatment out of his office. Just going to ask them a few questions just in case my PM doc doesn't go along w/ my methadone switch idea.

I do want to at least talk to my PM doc first so that I don't burn that bridge & also so that ideally he is the one who prescribes me the methadone & also keeps me on the Lyrica.

I'm getting worse though. Usually I run out about 1 & 1/2 wks early on my oxy script & just use kratom until I can get my script refilled. This month, I'm actively looking/asking around for other people I can get some rx meds from. I'm definitely in way over my head or at least getting there. I've even asked one guy to get me some weed which I haven't smoked in years. I'm actually going out of my "comfort zone" to get my addiction fed. I just wish I could get into my doc early, but if I have to wait until the 22nd, that's what I'll do.

I also have chronic pain (trigeminal neuralgia) and i get prescribed morphine suphate SR twice a day, MS ir's as needed and gabapentin. I get gabapentin instead of lyrica because i can't afford the shit and insurance does not cover it.

Ive thought of going on methadone as a prescription many times because i am both a addict and a chronic pain patient. Also methadone is supposed to be the bomb for neuropathic pain. The choice is really up to you and your doctor weather to make the switch to methadone as a painkiller.

I will give one piece of advice though. Do not go abusing your methadone script if you switch to that because if you run out early you will be in a far worse hell then coming off oxycodone and morphine combined.

Well, keeping you guys up to date. I showed up at the only MMT place here in town this morning right when they opened @ 6 a.m. to see if they're accepting new patients. Well, they have a waiting list & there seriously is not another MMT clinic w/in any acceptable driving distance for me.

One of the counselors did talk to me & she was pretty condescending actually. Seemed to not think I needed to be on MMT. Said pretty much that she thinks I'm "dependent" on the drugs, but not "addicted." Well, so not true. I know I'm an addict & I know in order to get myself clean, I need to use something for awhile to get me off the oxies. I guess to her, I need to be a full blown heroin addict or something. I guess she doesn't think that being addicted to pain meds is a big thing.

She wants me to go to my regularly scheduled doc appt w/ my PM doc & tell him the truth. Well, fuck that. I'm not going to give up my oxy script if he doesn't say yeah to methadone. I know if I don't get on methadone or subs this time I try to get off pain meds, I will just go back to doctor shopping again in a few months or so just like I did when I went to rehab before.

I have also looked into sub docs and the closest ones are going to be a good 4 hour drive. There is one here in town & he's at his patient limit & other than that one doc, there are no sub docs anywhere close to this podunk town I live in right now.

I suppose if my doc won't put me on the methadone, I will just try to start taking my oxies the way I'm supposed to, but now I've brought my husband into it & I don't think me staying on the oxies is an acceptable solution to him unless I said I was just going to stay on the oxies until I get a call from the MMT clinic that my number came up.

I wouldn't even know where to begin to try to get something off the streets such as subs or methadone or even more oxy for that matter. I am not street savy at all. Just a regular mom w/ 3 little boys who got addicted to pain meds after I had my second son & have been chasing the pain meds ever since. I doctor shopped for a long time, but then got into pain management, so I'm not having to stress about getting another script after the last one runs out.

If lying to get into pain management to get put on pain meds regularly isn't an addict, I don't know what is.

For Those Who Have Been on Methadone AND Suboxone

I recently got some suboxone from a friend. It has worked really well for me.

I still have my upcoming appt w/ my PM doc & I'm still going to ask to be put on methadone b/c I don't know that he can prescribe subs.

My question is this: If the suboxone has worked really well for me, will the methadone be about the same?

For those of you who have been on or tried both, I understand they are totally different meds, but do they "feel" about the same or help you about the same?
