Pneumonia (bacterial or viral) killed 808, 694 children under 5 years old in 2017 according to the WHO.

That’s 67,000 small children dying each month.

Please contrast with 46,000 deaths from coronavirus.

And explain the lock down.

in closed vulnerable cohorts ordinary standard human coronavirus, one of the groups of viruses that causes colds about 1/4 of the time, has a case fatality rate of up to 6%,
I suspect future alien archeologists will wonder what happened to this civilisation that caused it to implode itself over this.
there are some serious problems with the current methods of allocation of deaths to novel coronavirus.

Well, we could go over lots of things that id have to think about to determine where I feel the line is under my moral system.

But one thing I do believe, you have zero right to have your unvaccinated kid in daycare potentially infecting the kids that cant be vaccinated.

Ill never be ok with truly, literally forcing people to be vaccinated, but I am ok with pressuring people to do it to a certain extent.

Provided such pressure doesn't become defacto force... Such as by saying you can't leave your home without being vaccinated, i wouldnt be ok with that either.

A modern version of “iron lung” machines could be the answer to the health service’s shortage of ventilators during the coronavirus outbreak, according to a group of leading doctors, scientists and engineers.

They have reinvented a modern, smaller version of the technology that was widely used in the last century to treat patients with polio, and helped them to breathe by keeping their bodies in a vacuum.

The taskforce of doctors, engineers and scientists has already developed and tested the machine, called an exovent, which will be delivered to three hospitals within days for real-world testing.

The Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, is one of three NHS hospitals that have agreed to road test six of the machine in coming days.

The group say the equipment can be built quickly and cheaply with readily available materials.

It comes as the government admitted only 30 new British-built ventilators will be delivered to the NHS next week to treat coronavirus patients, having previously promised thousands within days.

before harping on about unvaccinated kids infecting vulnerable kids in day care or whatever, remember that in many diseases vaccinated individuals carry and pass on infections asymptomatically. Measles being a case in point. Clear evidence exists showing measles can and does infect vaccinated individuals, the disease is sub clinical so isn't seen but can be transmitted.
Evidence for this is serological tracking showing increased measles neutralizing antibodies in vaccinated individuals sometimes reaching the levels of natural infected individuals. That suggests that measles vaccination protects the individual from clinical measles but not other people around them.

A big deal for a virus with a R0 of 18+ Covid 19 R0 is roughly 2.5. There is no real evidence that influenza vaccine is effective in preventing transmission. Pertussis the evidence is vaccinated individuals are effective transmitters of the disease.

All that kind of screws the simplistic narrative of get vaccinated for other peoples sake and the people who believe this trope. Get vaccinated for your own sake. Ignore the other utilitarian greater good nonsense because it is just that, nonsense.

Llandudno marauders: The herd of mountain goats running riot through a Welsh town...


Mountain goats take over empty streets during the coronavirus lockdown

Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, mountain goats have taken over the deserted streets of Llandudno, North Wales. As yet to be fact-checked, but it does really seem that nature is returning to the towns and cities of the world.

In the north Wales mountains there are said to be about 120 of them, descended from goats of the mountains of Kashmir. The goats were originally a gift to the landowner Lord Mostyn from Queen Victoria, from the Windsor royal herd, but are now wild animals.

Taking advantage of the deserted streets because of the coronavirus lockdown, the goats have been branded vandals for munching through the town's gardens.

The goats normally live on the rocky Great Orme Country Park land but are occasional visitors to the seaside town of Llandudno. The herd is drawn this time by the lack of people and tourists due to the Covid-18 outbreak and lockdown measures in place.

They ate a few hedges in the Trinity Square area of town, trespassed in several front gardens and ran across a road without looking properly. A man named Andrew Stuart spotted them from the window of the pub he lives in. They weren’t keeping the required two metres apart, he observed.

If enough people are vaccinated we won't have measles infecting people. By 2000 it had just about been eliminated in the US.

Are you suggesting that it's not worth having everyone who can get vaccinated vaccinated?

As I understand it, the potential that you can become infected with e.g. measles after vaccination against it is still indeed possible. The data shows pretty clearly that vaccination has a dramatic influence on infection rates. Nobody uses live-virus vaccines any more either, so vaccination doesn't result in you becoming contagious.

One more vaccinated individual is one less person who could spread it. Are you seriously implying herd immunity is nonsense?

The studies I've seen say that flu shots are at least partially effective in reducing infections, but they are certainly far from a perfect silver bullet. As I personally tolerate vaccines very well, I'll get them each year as needed. They are free, and while they don't guarantee immunity, every bit helps. The flu sucks, if I can increase my odds at staying healthy by even a little bit, I'll take it.

Vaccines like measles/mumps/rubella, pertissis, diptheria etc are all indispensible in the modern age IMO. If you can tolerate the vaccine (and the vast majority of people do) you should absolutely get it. Go watch a video of a child with whooping cough and see if that doesn't tug on your heartstrings. Or see if you can find a person who lived through the last days of polio, maybe they can tell you about how awful that was.

Read what I wrote, think about what I wrote, then write your reply. If you are not sure of the meaning of what I wrote, ask it is probably me not being clear with language.

1- I am saying vaccinated individuals can spread measles or influenza or pertussis. Not only can, but do. I am talking about secondary vaccine failures, not primary vaccine failures (failures of the vaccine to take). I am also talking about sub-clinical infections in vaccinated individuals spreading the disease. The end point for most vaccine efficiency monitoring is not, doesn't spread disease, the end point isn't even doesn't get clincially confirmed infection after confirmed exposure and usually it isn't even close to that, usually the end point is shows immunity with some surrogate end point... I will give you a hypothetical example: Say for example Typhoid Mary was able to be asymptomatic with typhoid because she had been previously vaccinated. With current vaccine efficiency end points she would have immunity and would also be asymptomatic therefore the vaccine was a success. Some of the people who ate her food might, just might ,disagree with that statement! so long as they weren't dead. But that is not an end point. The vaccine worked in Mary and was a success. Right now the pertussis vaccine for example has exactly these same Typhoid Mary characteristics.

2- I am saying getting vaccinated for the sake of someone who cannot be vaccinated is not a valid moral argument. think through the risk analysis, there is no morally legitimate a trade off between multiplying an individually small risk through a large number of people to protect a small number of people have a disproportionately higher risk. How to you morally square someones kid being vaccine injured for example when that kid individually may not have benefited? But it really bluntly, The risk is generated by the person who cannot be vaccinated. By multiplying an individually small risk through an extremely large number you end with a non trivial output number and for certain people harmed....bigger picture. You cannot know who individually can tolerate a vaccine prior giving them the vaccine, you know afterwards....catch 22.

3-Hence I am saying get vaccinated for your own individual sake. On an individual basis the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks in practically all situations, except when the disease is not endemic or where the disease is not serious or where the vaccine is poor.

Combine that with point 1 and point 2 and the whole compulsion case falls apart. Which then leaves encouraging vaccination using point 3. Which I strongly support.

These are hard concepts to ethically game out and communicate and people get all emotional or miss the point, this is well off topic.

Disagree, first you need to prove that the unvaccinated child is a threat because otherwise this is of a form of deception in order to basically force parents to vaccinate, oftentimes against their wishes.

Did you know that not one vaccine has ever been tested for safety under a double-blind placebo study? Would you prefer if they were? I would. Otherwise how do we know that we can trust them? The same companies that produce vaccines have been caught releasing medications onto the market that they knew were extremely dangerous (ie doing more harm than good which resulted in deaths). Why would they do that? Money obviously is one big reason. Those same companies are absolved from any liability if their vaccines injure kids. Why?? They're private corporations why are they protected by the government? Oh I dunno maybe coz there's a revolving door of politicians and Big Pharma CEOs... The billions being paid out to parents of vaccine-injured children from a vaccine court is paid by taxpayers. None of this is OK. If they were honest about vaccine injuries then parents would be a lot more weary. Many parents would not vaccinate if they knew the true extent of vaccine injuries. And because they injure so many children parents should have more of a choice.

It's basically the same thing. The way the world and societies works leaves most parents with virtually zero choice i.e forced.

It's a myth to think that you can completely eradicate a disease. No kids die from measles in developed countries anymore anyway. A vaccine is not necessary. Most of these oldskool diseases disappeared as we improved our collective hygiene. The vaccines are a correlation and there's also a correlation with stuff like immune disorders.

Let's a do a proper, independent, unbiased and transparent study on vaccinated vs unvaccinated populations. You'd think we'd have that information already. And then let's decide. How about that? Let science decide?

US Labor Market Is In Free-Fall" - 10 Million Americans Have Filed For Unemployment In Past 2 Weeks

“The U.S. labor market is in free-fall,” said Gregory Daco, chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics in New York.

“The prospect of more stringent lockdown measures and the fact that many states have not yet been able to process the full amount of jobless claim applications suggest the worst is still to come.”

And another important note is that weekly jobless claims data are based on "hard facts", UBS points out, unlike survey data
which is subject to quirks around:

a) some of the treatment of supply chains, which has flattered data,

b) the fact that many respondents will not be replying to surveys during the virus disruption period, and

c) survey data will give more accurate assessments during 'normal' times, perhaps not as much in unusual times.

Of course, the government is coming to the rescue. As a result of the freshly-passed 'relief' bill, self-employed and gig-workers who previously were unable to claim unemployment benefits are now eligible. In addition, the unemployed will get up to $600 per week for up to four months, which is equivalent to $15 per hour for a 40-hour workweek. By comparison, the government-mandated minimum wage is about $7.25 per hour and the average jobless benefits payment was roughly $385 per person per month at the start of this year.

“Why work when one is better off not working financially and health wise?” said a Sung Won Sohn, a business economics professor at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

With more than 80% of Americans under some form of lockdown, up from less than 50% a couple of weeks ago, this is far from over.

As RealInvestmentAdvice.com's Lance Roberts warns, the importance is that unemployment rates in the U.S. are about to spike to levels not seen since the “Great Depression.” Based on the number of claims being filed, we can estimate that unemployment will jump to 15-20% over the next quarter as economic growth slides 8%, or more. (I am probably overly optimistic.)
