Covid-19 Outbreak of new SARS-like coronavirus (Covid-19)

I would literally take in a few cats, what city is this?

Salt Lake City.

yeah it is awful.
anyone that can take in some sweet pets, please adopt.

The disinformation that is constantly put out on the internet makes terrible things happen.
Everyone remain calm and clear headed.
We WILL get through this!

To Foreigner: it may not show much for Adam Smith's 'invisible hand' but it sure does make one ponder what economic stability might be if this were left 'laissez faire', sans consideration of infection rates.

As the rest of Europe lives under lockdown, Sweden keeps calm and carries on
All its neighbours have shut up shop to beat coronavirus but the Swedes insist ‘we are not in quarantine’. Is that the right approach?

While every other country in Europe has been ordered into ever more stringent coronavirus lockdown, Sweden has remained the exception. Schools, kindergartens, bars, restaurants, ski resorts, sports clubs, hairdressers: all remain open, weeks after everything closed down in next door Denmark and Norway.

As he announced the tighter restrictions on Friday, the prime minister, Stefan Löfven, warned that the coming weeks and months would be tough. But he defended the decision not to implement the tighter restrictions seen in Denmark, France and the UK. “We all, as individuals, have to take responsibility. We can’t legislate and ban everything,” he said. “It is also a question of commonsense behaviour.”

“I don’t see any big reason to take measures that you can only keep up for a very limited amount of time.” His team at the Public Health Agency of Sweden is critical of the Imperial College paper that warned this month that 250,000 people in the UK would die if the government failed to introduce more draconian measures.

we need real science, testable science and then some more good science. Not some overly alarmist, half baked computer model with hidden inner workings, IC team, looking at you, junk in junk out and all that. Keep on with your butt covering but you will be called out. The truth will out when the time is right and it will not be pretty.

be safe people, this will pass so long as the politicians do not destroy the world out of fear.

"“On March 6, all 3,300 people of Vò were tested, and 90 were positive, a prevalence of 2.7%,” the professors said. “Applying that prevalence to the whole province (population 955,000), which had 198 reported cases, suggests there were actually 26,000 infections at that time. That’s more than 130-fold the number of actual reported cases. Since Italy’s case fatality rate of 8% is estimated using the confirmed cases, the real fatality rate could in fact be closer to 0.06%."

I have ordered some NAC/Glutathione/Vitamin C/Molybdenum patches, mainly for the NAC but also others perhaps couldn't hurt- NAC has a lot of study behind it for it's use in treatment and prevention of forms of viral pneumonia, and reducing mucous/thinning mucous. NAC stands for n-acetylcysteine. Another potential helper is garlic extract/allicin. The studies I pulled up include evidence of activity against coronaviruses, with potential to treat COVID-19. Taking before it even hits would be best.

From my experience with these two things, especially, I have a good feeling they at least will be a weapon against viral infections, and reduce the severity of symptoms of them and duration. I had a bad case of bronchitis years ago, and taking NAC seemed to increase production of mucous, when coughing, to cough it up. I also felt almost immediately "better" than I had felt. Garlic, at least when I was eating it a lot, a roommate got a very very bad cold, and I just got a touch of it. I knew I had it, for about a day or two. It was like a very faint one. Probably the easiest cold I've had in my life. I'm actually allergic to garlic, though, so I'm hoping this no-protein allicin extract that I got, won't cause a reaction. If not- I'll suffer through the hives for a bit.

Some 20% or so of colds are also caused by not rhinoviruses, but other coronaviruses.

Anyway, these things are backed by peer-reviewed research, double-blind studies, and I would say- They can't hurt (at least, worth a try).

Some links to some articles about NAC:

Both influenza and coronavirus cause an inflammatory storm in the lungs and it is this inflammatory storm that leads to acute respiratory distress, organ failure, and death. Certain nutraceuticals may help to reduce the inflammation in the lungs from RNA viruses and others may also help boost type 1 interferon response to these viruses, which is the body’s primary way to help create antiviral antibodies to fight off viral infections.

The authors draw attention to several randomized clinical studies in humans that have found that over the counter supplements such as n-acetylcysteine (NAC), which is used to treat acetaminophen poisoning and is also used as a mucus thinner to help reduce bronchitis exacerbations, and elderberry extracts, have evidence for shortening the duration of influenza by about two to four days and reducing the severity of the infection. The authors also note several nutraceuticals such as spirulina, beta-glucan, glucosamine, and NAC have either been found to reduce the severity of infection or to cut the rate of death in half in animals infected with influenza. Furthermore, one clinical study in humans testing spirulina noted significant reductions in viral load in those infected with HIV.

“Therefore, it is clear that certain nutraceuticals have antiviral effects in both human and animal studies,” commented Dr. DiNicolantonio. “Considering that there is no treatment for COVID-19 and treatments for influenza are limited, we welcome further studies to test these nutraceuticals as a strategy to help provide relief in those infected with encapsulated RNA viruses.”

Thanks for that information. I may avoid using NAC then, until perhaps later, if in-fact I become infected (or if people I know/care for do, I'll not try to get them to take this, at least earlier on). I'm glad you were able to counter any possible bad information I may have put out. Thanks again, and I hope you get through this soon.

I'm not surprised.

Trump thought it would be rich stock investors. I knew it would be common people who just wanted to keep loving and living the way they had.

In before I called "This disease will dis-proportionally affect disadvantaged poor people and not rich people"....

Very tragic. Stay good to yourselves guys. Talk about your thoughts and feelings with loved ones. People care.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT PEOPLE.

Unless you are confirmed tests for nCOV anecdotal stuff relating to how you beat the COVID is just that, people monitoring the situation are tracking several viruses in widespread circulation that have similar symptoms. sore throat headache, extreme tirednes dry cough etc, these patients often test negative PCR or antigen. In hospital settings these patients will eventually test positive nCOV but that does not mean what you think it means.

So unless you are confirmed stick to the facts, You don't know what you have is COVID-19 you are being anecdotal about treating a ILI influenza like illness.

CFC Please caveat what you say. by all means share it but be careful in being clear what you are actually saying

You potentially are giving faulty advice and could kill people.

The other thing we do know is that in mild to moderate cases there is detectable virus after sympton resolution, you get better but there is still virus, it is not known how infectious you remain for how long.

the more you learn the more you realise the less you actually know. So it goes.

If people want to do something that is extremely helpful, keep a log of your contacts starting right now and if you can remember going backwards.

If god forbid, you get it and test positive then the disease control people can track back up your contacts and find the other positives properly isolate and possibly treat the other infected people.

This finds the burning embers that have spread in the forest fire and prevents the whole thing flaring up again. Right now the services are maxxed out dealing with the constant stream, when the deluge reduces to a trickle as it will shortly, then tracking from cases backwards will be very important and the log you keep will help them be more efficient.

If you are paranoid and think that you want to protect your social contacts by not keeping a log, consider this, what makes you think the state will not just use your phone positioning data, your phone calls, your emails faicial recognition CCTV tracking and so on to do it anyway? If you want to protect your contacts just don't get corona. OK.

It is very important to look at tomorrow's problems right now rather than just dealing with today's problems.

In The Pipeline, a chemistry blog I read, has some reviews on novel drugs for coronavirus:

Now, this is by no means an endorsement to go eat aquarium cleaner, but it's a cool demonstration of how we are screening existing drugs against the novel threat.
(Interesting to see disulfram on the list)

Do I personally think that zinc, Vitamin C/D, etc are effective in COVID therapy? No, I don't believe so, but they certainly don't hurt if taken in moderation, and we know defeciency is not good. So it's little more than a band-aid.

Trump on chloroquine:
It is a strong drug. We will see...look, it may work, it may not work. I agree with the doctor. It may not work. But I feel good about it. That is all it is, just a feeling. You know, I am a smart guy. I feel good about it. We will see soon enough. We have big samples of people, if you look at the people. There are people in big trouble.

Uh huh.

CFC's case is confirmed.
