Hi folks,

I want to be posting within the guidelines of this board, but I'm curious if anything classified in the "other drugs" category anyone has come across as having significant antidepressant actions, especially for those depressions that have been difficult to treat or severe. I am really struggling.

Obviously, I understand many drugs may push one in that direction or have a temporary 'euphoric' action -- I'm more thinking along the lines of a true antidepressant effect, e.g. SSRIs when they work. Something that may or may not have an acute psychotropic effect but whose after effects, after one or multiple doses, is clearly antidepressant.

By way of background, I have tried damn near everything, including ECT. Even recreational ketamine, though I am still searching for a doctor who can provide this to me on a regular basis as part of a treatment plan. Only thing I haven't tried is MDMA or psilocybin, and i know MDMA has a nasty pro-depressant effect but I've heard good things about one or two doses in the right therapeutic environment.

If anyone has any pointers to recent research or trip reports they've come across with regard to nontraditional substances that would fit in the "other drugs" category, I sure would appreciate it.

I can't live the way I've been living the last few years. It's pure torment. Healthy people just have no idea what pure, severe, and/or chronic depression is truly about. But I'm sure many on this board do.

Best,
Satsumas

MXE seems to have a strong anti depressing afterglow, which can last for weeks

interesitng..

interesting, i am thinking about both of them.
i have some mxe coming in, but i had read that it's not necessarily true that mxe's effectiveness is due to the NMDA antagonism of ketamine. right? i had heard that it has more opioid action and that it might be addictive. can you provide more detail on your experience with mxe and what the afterglow was like?

re:psilocybin, my pdoc actually mentioned this offhandedly once a long time ago, i haven't gotten around to finding any, i don't know where i could get some. what about it makes it particularly antidepressant. is it more like a 'change of mind' type deal where you gain sudden insight which relieves you of the darkness and emptyiness?

details please!!!

Sorry but I'm going to have to close this... we don't allow 'what should I take?' type threads and given that you're trying to self-medicate which is near-universally a horrible idea, this doesn't comply with the harm reduction focus of this forum. You're also discussing several drugs which are better suited to other forums such as Psychedelic Drugs and overall this isn't suited for Other Drugs because you aren't asking how to reduce the harms associated with illicit drug use.

In my view as someone who has studied addiction counseling and psychology for the last few years, your best bet is to stop thinking ANY kind of drug is going to fix what's going on and look for alternative and more sustainable ways to addressing the underlying issues causing the depression.

If you're unclear on why this was closed, please check the standards and guidelines links in my signature and PM me if you have any questions.
