What exactly is MS Contin? Is it generic for oxycontin or totally different. My doctor let me try it for the transverse myelitis pain and it didn't help at all. In fact it made me feel worse. I know it's morphine which I've had shots of in the ER and it did reduce the savage nerve pain but those ms contin tablets made me sick like the flu. WTF is in that shit??

MS Contin is a controlled release formulation of morphine sulfate. It's possible you were given too much MS Contin which would explain the sick feeling you had.

Yes, the drug you're dealing with here is your run-of-the-mill Morphine.

Morphine is the prototypical, archetypical Opioid in every sense. Most other Opioids will be compared to Morphine in the course of defining their effects. I can tell you are not well-versed in this sort of stuff. Heroin, the well-known Opioid drug is just Morphine that has been treated with Acetic Acid/Acetic Anhydride as a sort of "cheap trick" to make the Morphine 1.5x-2x as potent.

All Opioids have nausea as a potential side effect. Morphine is known to cause relatively more nausea than than the Oxycodone you have mentioned. If it's at all possible, it would be worthwhile to request an alternative Opioid medication if the nausea is too much. For the time being, carbonated drinks, Cannabis, tea and OTC nausea aids can help improve your symptoms.

If you find yourself in the ER struggling with nausea they can possible give you some Ondansetron (Zofran) which is typically a very effective medication for nausea. It can also be prescribed and taken at home. I would ask if you continue having problems.

I don’t think nausea was mentioned, “sick like the flu” is what OP said which I guess could include nausea but typically when I hear people refer to flu-like symptoms with opioids I think more of withdrawal.

Did they make you throw up? Or what exactly do you mean by sick like the flu? Were you on another pain med before, OxyContin maybe? I could see if OP was on say 90mg OC and got switched to MSC 30mg there being withdrawal symptoms due to a much weaker dose of a weaker opioid. Or maybe I’m reading too far into it and they just meant they threw up because the morphine was too strong lol

Looks like you sort of answered your own question there: it's morphine.

It's a long-acting form.

Those accustomed to oxycodone will usually find it lackluster. It tends to have more side-effects too, like nausea and itching, or generally feeling weird etc.

Have you already undergone plasmapheresis for your TM? How long have you had it? Have you tried lyrica?

If u suffer pain which is caused by damaged nerves, try tramadol. I tried too many opioids/opiates but tramadol Is the best for my pain. But start at low dose and slowly increase to 400mg. U Can do much more and it's not weak at all but i don't recommend huge doses without enough benzodiazepines + leveteracetam. Without them, u will suffer seizure or serotonine syndrom.

Another option is something non-opioid active. Try pregabalin + magnesium + nsaids + tizanidine.

I suffer from nerve pain also ( severe ulnar nerve neuropathy). My neurologist prescribes me Lycra but I’ve never requested opiates, however in controlled ( by prescription) small doses I would like to try them because the Lycra doesn’t seem to work. What is my best approach in requesting oxycodone or Vicodin for pain without sounding like a drug addict . I would be willing to take drug monitoring tests, or go to pain management if needed

ER formulations even for the great oxy are lackluster imo.

I know MS Contin has abuse proof matrix for formulations to prevent from making it instant release….but i find mixing with high proof alcohol in a small shot glass and heating (no open flames) does extract some out of the pill junk and make it more of an instant release where you might get better activity.

Check the rectal bioavailability vs oral also… if it’s higher for rectal you’ll get more drugs absorbed into your serum levels. But rectal admin of the alcohol solution could burn so I’d want to dry that down to remove most of the alcohol leaving some water present for the injection into your rectum
