Opiate Hangover for 12+ hours?

So last night I took a little more hydrocodone/homatropine syrup than I was supposed to. About 5 tsps of it. I think that's about 25 mg hydrocodone and 7.5 mg homatropine. This was my first opiate usage in many, many months (used to take hydro/oxy pretty regularly a couple years ago).

There were no bad effects from the homatropine (which supposedly can be miserable at high doses). All in all, it was a good high.

But, today, I just feel so groggy. My head feels very cloudy/foggy. Imagine an opiate high, take away the euphoria, mood lift, and everything positive, but keep the side effects. That's how I feel. The problem is I dosed over 12 hours ago. How is it possible I still feel like this? I drank a ton of water, drank coffee, took a nap, and ate a nice meal, and yet I still feel strange. Is it the hydro or the homatropine?

Any help? Any explanation?

I don't see this as uncommon at all - in fact I'd expect you to feel WD symptoms for 24-36 hours (from the opiate).

I can't find any half-life information on the homatropine, but anticholinergics can cause significant discomfort, both physically and mentally, for quite some time.

Wait another day or two, eat yer vitamins, and get some exercise. You'll be fine in no time. :)

good to know as i'm new to opiods for the most part. i was prescribed the same (was hoping for hydrocodone and chlorphenaramine) when i take the hydro and chlorphen, about 20mg i get a good high and lucid dreams. i have the same thing in the morning though almost till noon or later its a feeling like i'm drunk or high still.

If your not dependent nor regularly using opiates, I would truly doubt it has anything to due with withdrawal.

You probably have an anticholinergic-related hangover. Anticholinergics tend to be nasty drugs due to the array of side effects.

If you're not using everyday and psychically dependent, it's not withdrawal.. What it is, is the same thing social drinkers get from having too much booze... a hangover. If your body isn't used to opiates, sometimes you'll get so sick you puke, get a headache, and then feel like total shit the next morning and maybe all day. But, that's not withdrawal.. that is a side affect of your body just not being used to it enough to the point where those negative side effects go away, and they do go away pretty quickly with habitual use. So it's the drug itself making you sick, not the lack of that drug as in the case of withdrawal.

That's a really good point. It's likely a "hangover" from the combo of hydrocodone/homatropine, both can cause hangover-like effects if you take too much. It's not withdrawal symptoms when someone hasn't used opioids for many, many months and only took hydrocodone once on this occasion. Withdrawal symptoms are symptoms you get from having a physiological dependence to opioids (from taking them daily long-term) and then stopping them.

EDIT: ninja'd by mr.scagnattie :)

Damn man, I ninja'd you? I feel so ashamed. :(

Yeah, it could just simply be an opiate hangover. I've had those from a variety of opiates - codeine, oxy, heroin - where I would feel groggy and nauseous the whole next day. No worries :)
