Online Pharmacy - US TO Australia

Hi All,

I've noticed a lot of US based online pharmacies that appear to ship prescription drugs world wide.

IE: A lot of them sell Valium, which in Australia cannot be obtained without prescription.

Now certainly I'm not asking to source drugs, though I am curious as to wether

1) Is it legal for an Australian to buy from these US online pharmacies?

2) If say an Australian was to order Valium from one of these online would it be instantly stopped by customs?

I'm more curious because they seem to be all over the net selling prescription medicines that cant be obtained normally in Aus.

Any info would be helpful.

Cheers,

Shal...

I've purchased Prozac online and not had any problems receiving it - the parcel didn't even look like it was tampered by customs.

^^^
But perhaps if customs had tampered with and realised what your package was, they may have confiscated it?

Interesting question tho...

Yeah! I'd love to hear more experiences / cases of people doing this.

The real reason I ask is I have bad chest pains and I've been using Valium, but docs are making it harder to prescribe, so really Im looking for a legal way to obtain a prescription medicine without a prescription.

All the sites I have read, IE: Pharmacies sites say it's legal, Im just not sure about customs and imports.

Cheers,

Shal..

oh yeah quite possible - it might have been luck on my part, but I believe I wasn't the only one. However this was like two years ago and customs may be more stringent now.

I know someone who has had their shipment of diazepam confiscated and a customs letter sent to them because they have tried to import prescription pharmaceuticals. If you check the TGA import/export controls you will see many listed pharmaceuticals, and the common benzodiazepines are listed.

Common questions about ordering medicines from overseas

I want to bring some medicines / dietary supplements / herbal preparations into Australia through the mail from overseas - what restrictions are there?

You may bring a 3 month supply (at the maximum dose recommended by the manufacturer) of unapproved medicines into Australia in any one importation without any approval required by the TGA provided that:

  1. the goods are for the use in the treatment of the importer or their immediate family; and
  2. you do not supply (sell or give) the medicine to any other person; and
  3. the goods do not contain a controlled substance in Appendix A or Appendix B ; and
[edit: anything you might want to order is probably listed in Appendix B - Cowboy Mac]
  4. the goods are not injections that contain material of human or animal origin (except insulin); and
  5. the total quantity of the medicine imported within a 12 month period does not exceed 15 months supply of the drug (at the maximum dose recommended by the manufacturer); and
  6. if the goods are in Schedule 4 or 8 of the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drug and Poisons a prescription from a registered medical practitioner is held for the goods.[/list=1]
To establish if the goods are subject to the Customs legislation you need to know what are the ingredients in the product. You can then look up the controlled substances in Appendix A and Appendix B which require import licences / permits. Each State and Territory of Australia also has its own Poison and Drugs legislative controls. You should also check these requirements before importing these types of goods. An import permit will not be issued for substances in Schedule 4 or Schedule 8 of the Standard for the Uniform Scheduling of Drugs and Poisons unless a prescription from a registered doctor in Australia has been submitted to the Treaties and Export Section.

DO NOT ORDER MEDICINES INCLUDING DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS, HERBAL PREPARATIONS OVER THE INTERNET UNLESS:

    • You know exactly what is in the preparation; and
    • have checked the legal requirements for importation and use in Australia.

  1. source: tga. note: i have not linked all urls from the mentioned source.

As you can see from point 3:
the goods do not contain a controlled substance in Appendix A or Appendix B; and

Anything you would want to order because you cannot get it here is listed in Appendix B. It is illegal to get it sent to Australia.

Thanks - That anwsers my question perfectly CBM! - Anything I was interested in is listed on Appendix B.

Damn... Fucken hopeless. I mean all I want is some Valium, which is widely available in the US, Mexico, ETC but not in Australia! Stupid Australians....

Hehehe

Shal :)

I interested to know of anybodies experiences ordering stuff not on the TGAs lists but still under prescription in Australia.

So really theres no way world wide to get such a drug as Valium in Australia? Unless you have a prescription from a doc? ... What a shame !

Damn... :(

Well, unless you're very young or have a checkered past with pharmaceuticals or illicits, then I would suggest asking your doctor. I've never been turned down for valium, and neither has anyone else I can think of atm. If your doctor's not approachable, get another.

^^^ the doctor is going to ask a question why you want it so what do you say?

If you need valium there is no reason your doctor shouldn't prescribe it, if you just want it however......

....we're not going to give you a reason.

If you have a legitimate medical condition, a Dr will give you what they think is the most appropriate treatment. That probably won't be Valium for chest pain, but you shouldn't care if all you want is to feel well, right?
P.S there are good reasons why Valium is only available on prescription. I for one am very glad this is the case!

dude dont bother getting it online i tried to get some ephadrine once and it was stopped at customs, thus was given a letter that was shown above.. Plus a waste of money especially if you dont end up with it.. I agree go see ya doc, but dont just walk in and say "yo dude i would like a script for vals" cause theyll look at ya and go "I think not sonny Jim!

Theyll ask ya what the prob is. If you have a ligit reason that vals can help, chances are you will be given tamazies before vals so it might take you a few trips. depending on your ability to explain your "legit" prob they may even try and refer ya to a head doc, or specialist. Remember Docs aint stupid! They will try all alternatives than vals especially if your young. Giving benzos to kiddies aint the wisest decision unless necessary. Theres to high a risk for abuse and dependancy which makes doc responsible for. Their looking out for your health not providing legal ways to get high or low.

If you are perscribed a benzo be happy with what you get the first time, if you get tamazies or some herbal shit like kava go back and say it aint helpen or try another doc. Plus if you walk out with something thats actually gonna help your condition and it aint benzos, be glad that ya got off your ass and went and saw the doc for some legit help. if ya just tryen to scam drugs, chances are youll walk out feelen like a twit cause ya asked for vals for chest pains and ya doc liiked at ya like "ok youll never get a script off me again kiddo"

if ya still keen do some research (theres plenty around) then try pull of a scam. If you continue to fail at least you will know the reason why its so hard to get decent scripts even if you have a legit prob and are responsible enough to use them for their prescribed reasons. Good luck

*Laughs*

OMG Cowboy - Maybe I should lay off the prescriptions awhile. Hahaha. I most likely saw your post and thought I FOUND it! Hahaha

Sorry dude :)
