Hi,

8 months ago I did the stupidest thing after a mephedrone binge. I did a line of nrg,I had a severe anxiety attack and my muscles went all floppy and jelly like. It was an extremely traumatic experience which I am still feeling the effects of. I have anxiety all the time which seems to manifest itself physically more than worrying about day to day things. Although the anxiety is under control I still have the most horrendous sleepiness all the time. I can sleep for 12 hours every day and still not feel refreshed, I feel sleepy all the time during the day and my mind feels foggy making work much harder for me. I also find it ver hard to motivate myself. I am worried I have permanently damaged my brain. Was all the hype surrounding Nrg true? Have I permanently altered my brain balance? I have been reading up on parkinsonism alot and my symptoms of hypersomnia and anxiety are all premotor symptoms of parkinsons disease.

I realise the chances are slim and that only MPTP has been known to cause this so I suppose i'm looking for reassurance more than anything. Can't go on worrying I have a permanent neurological condition, I'm only 20 years old for god sake!

I have only done drugs once since this occassion which was MDMA which actually made me feel great and normal for a week but after that I was back to the low energy sleepy tate again.

Would really like an opinion frm you guys? My doctor just suspects anxiety disorder.

thanks in advance

Man sorry to hear about your nasty experience, that is awful. Firstly though, this is one thing I hate about the internet: anyone can look up their symptoms and self-diagnose with the most horrific diseases and syndromes! It's not your fault, it's the people who compile those stupid "symptom checker" websites, they're just making massive hypochondriacs out of us all! Once I had myself convinced I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma and went to the doctor to get a scan and it turned out to just be an ingrown hair.....not a swollen lymph gland. So please do yourself a favour and don't search your symptoms on the internet anymore ;) It'll just make your anxiety a million times worse.

Secondly, the brain is a truly amazing organ which is fully capable of repairing itself from the damage we do to it via drug use. I do not believe that one single drug experience, as horrific as it was, can cause any permanent damage. Some people may recover faster or slower from drug use side effects than others, but you WILL get better. 8 months is a really long time for side effects to be continuing but it's not unheard of. It really sucks though. How is your diet? Do you get any exercise? A healthy diet and regular exercise can do wonders for psychological symptoms like anxiety and depression, and can also significantly improve our energy levels.

Have you discussed your chronic drowsiness with your doctor? What did they think about it? Have you had any symptoms of depression?

Your anxiety could actually be making you worse, purely from you worrying that something really serious is wrong with you. Have you had any ongoing counselling/therapy at all to try and cope with your anxiety symptoms?

Thanks for the reply and advice. I have a very healthy diet and go to the gym everyday. It has improved my energy levels somewhat and my anxiety is definitely alot better from it, I used to he heart palpitations, hot flushes, sleep paralysis and sensitivity to light but that seems to have passed now and I'm just left with the constant low energy and sleepiness along with the anxiety.

Although I haven't really considered it a think I was depressed for a long time afterwards though it didn't really click at the time. My overall mood is ok except when I think about how I'm feeling. Any references to drugs or if i see people taking drugs makes my anxiety really bad, i don't even like driving past the building where it occurred!

The doctor just said that anxiety can present itself with unrestful sleep which is why i am drowsy during the day, its not so severe and im not falling asleep while driving so to the doctors mind it can't really be considered a symptom like excessive daytime sleepiness.

Ive had all the blood work to rule out anything other possible causes.

As of yet I havent had any therapy but i will definitely look it into it.

I just don't tfeel like its the anxiety causing the sleepiness, I definitely don't feel like the person I used to be and my intelligence has definitely taken a knock. ANother thing to note is I have these muscle twitches all the time but again this could be due to my anxiety rather than anyhting more serious.

thanks again

No worries mate :)

It sounds like you and your doctor have investigated this pretty thoroughly (with the bloodwork and everything). So perhaps the next step for you is, as you say, to look in to getting some therapy. You might be surprised how much it can help.
Good luck, and keep us updated if you like :) <3

It sounds to me like a case of depression. Depression can cause anxiety as anxiety can cause depression.

I suggest healthy diet and exerice before going to see a doctor though.. they will just put you on an SSRI.

Ye I want to avoid medication if at all possible. ADHD I hadnt considered I will mention it. I seem to have good days and bad days. thanks for the help.
