The Real Hiphop is Over!
Lol... im sorry, i appricate almost all music, but hiphop performances like that do not belong at a party - and especially not on main floor stage....
RiTm was pretty sick - a bit dissapointed Monk wasent there - because the disorganization was very obvious in alot of the little stories to each song & inhouse visual Fillins between clips (ooo, pretty winamp pluggins)....
Skylab rocked as usual - space girl did some new and experimental shit that was pretty dope (much better then her typical same-as-always sets)
Lawrence was alright - a little too trancy but not too bad. Mistress was pretty much AMAZING the whole time =P too bad they cut her & the party short
U can blame it on KRS1's lineup of special guests !
All n All, eh - thought it was gunna be the best party of the summer - im thinkin it could be beaten ;)

grrrrrrrrrr what the hell was that AWFUL ASS NIGHTMARE ACTION...that hiphop group SUCKED, WHY did they stay on so long? they kept saying they were leaving, and they just wouldn't GO.
ugh i'm annoyed...i only heard like the first song of m. barbara's set b/c my firneds were too tired to stay....she was the reson i eve went and i'm so pissssssssed.
this party could have been so much better than it actaully was and it is all stuck on earth's fault. they are SO RUDE.
 
what happened with krs-one? i'm going to see him saturday night, is he using a lot of guest mcs or something?
 
We got there early on, parked at a lot about 3 blocks off.
Almost got caught at the frisking. | | <---Put your thumb and index finger at those two vertical lines. NOw lift your hand from the computer and look at those two fingers. I was THAT close to getting caught.
Go inside and there was the large main room, just as I remembered it. But then, WHat?! the jungle room is downstairs?!!! What happened to that spectacular room a floor above. It's large, has tall ceilings, stayed cool for all the more active jungle dancers.
As the night progressed more and more people showed up, people I didn't expect. Met a lot of Bluelighters. Even took a photo with a bunch of them. You're all older than I imagine. Haha.
ANyway, the seemed to die pretty quick. Analogy- It was like a roll. It started quickly, soon peaked, but after the peak everything clamed down immensely.
The jungle room floor became ALL wet. So no one could dance. There was some long as hip-hop show Oh, and remember that guy wearing the light suit and the fireworks? - I thought it was nice that there were fireworks. THey have them on July 3rd in my town and so we all were afraid to miss them. I told my friend CJ, not to worry, the light show would be enough, but he said it wasn't the same. And so, there were fireworks inside the Hammerstein. That was nice.
Mostly, the party for me was meeting people. not really dancing all that much. The last party I danced like a motherfucker at was the Goldie show.

i like hiphop, but i walked out of krs
was jeru the damaja there? i thought he was supposed to be playing downstairs at the same time as krs
it was a shame that i was too beat to dance when jsmooth came on... cuz he was good.. but i was too tired and left after a couple tracks. anyone know what mc was with him?
i was even too tired to dance when odi threw down a couple oldskool tracks. blah.
so overall i had an ok time. i was upset that there was no 2step room (i guess it was the tiny room shared with other music) and that the dnb room wasnt the nice big one upstairs. and that monk wasnt there... ritm performance was neat, but not the big ho-ha i expected it to be. ah well, cant expect too much for a nyc party.
it was nice seeing everyone, got to meet 3 new bluelighters... hope you all got home safely, and hope you come party in nyc more often :D
 
where to start.
well i get there at 11:30ish get inside the rip up my ticket and toss it in the box with the rest of them and oh... wait... security takes my dog collar and tosses it in the dump. my new dog collar i may add. then monk isn't there... i get a comp to this party and i still feel riped off cause the only reason i came was to see rabbit in the moon again. then i started to enjoy the party and then it was just getting borning so i left to promote after awhile of being "The PuppetMaster" cops started bing pricks and pushing everyone back... then around 4:30ish one cop decideds to push a lady walking to get her to hurry up... her thinking mostlikely that it was just some pushy asshole trying to get past her she turns around and slugs him... 4 cops slam her to the ground toss the guy she was with against the hood of a car and then one cop i don't know why try'd swinging at me i had a box of flyers in my hands so i couldn't exactly block it so i did the next best thing i let him hit me, but i let him hit me on the top of my head wich is the hardest part of the human body has he starts swearing in pain i quickly walk away while the other cops are pushing others around and get out of the scene so as not to be brought up on lame false charges or something. plus i got a lump on my head... i bet his hands broken tho he was holding it and swearing. then finally my friend get to they're car and we drive home i go to sleep but wait... what do i wake up to ? the alternater just whent on the car and the battery dies on the high way (it's about 10am) so just after such a shitty night i pritty much feel like "fuck it" and we blast some venom on the side of the highway and have our self a lil rave party while waiting for the toe truck whom took forever. the sight of my booty shaking caused a wicked traffic jam from people yelling or honking saying stuff like "wooooo" or "Happy forth of july" that and they were just watching the weird kids dancing on the side of the highway finnaly the tow truck comes and then we try and fit 4 people and the toe truck drive into the cab of his truck. wh get a ride from mass to seabrook in NH leave the car at a gass station and begin wondering how we are gonna get home 2 out of 3 cell phones nearly dead and the third close to follow. matts cell dies first then mine still no one to be reached either partyingh cause forth of july or in another state. mind you it's about 102 degree's out side and we're with out A/C including when we were waiting for the tow truck. so we walk to a staples and chill there for a lil then the driver starts thinking that she's going to walk home(home being durham wich is many manyy miles away and you'd have to take the high way to get there wich really wasn't happening) so we had to convince her we'll hun... you can't walk home. after that was settled we found someone to come pick us up but they won't be down for another hour or so(the time now being around 2pm) so we go and explore the wonders of seabrook wich quite frankly wasn't very great... whent to a dunkin' donuts and a walmart scoped out some fireworks stores but weren't 21 to be able to get any. whent back to staples who by now knew us on a first name basis because of they're air conditioning and $399.99 office chair(wich only i was allowed to sit in... the other vagabons with me were in $119.99 chairs) finaly we get a ride and make it home. wich it's not 5pm and i'm going to take a shower.
I hope everyone had a better time then me.

WTF! I remember coming out and seeing no flyer kids passing out shit to me all lined up nice like. I just saw cops all over chilling. i looked to my left and saw the kids. They all looked tired and jaded. I guess ^^^ that is why.

ya you know when you see a 19-22 year old girl get hit with a billy club you tend to feel a lil angry or say jaded specialy with the police telling you yo get off the block that the manhattan center was on then after the man hatten center they try to make everyone leave i wasn't even aloud to go to my car wich was in the oppisit direction they told me to:
Take a bus
all in all not a great party scene in NYC as as i've expressed befor. and a note to SOE... it's strange how you can let someone in for free and still rip them off, 1 booking your headliner and them not showing (ie monk) and 2 stealing my dog collar. and you wondered why i dis SOE... it's cause they suck.
[edit] People say all the time "oh i'm sick of asylum parties this and that" but no cops in springfield have punched me befor and i never scene them club a girl. god how i wanted to shoot them. they give other cops bad names i feel like driving down there and just lighting up a few of them for fun. oh i mean PLURRRRRRRRRRR[/edit]

And ya – I’m real upset that the one time NY's had a chance to see RITM @ their best, one of the members goes to spin some side project and brings the amazing visuals & completion to the trio's greatness with him....
W/o Monk - they loose the master of their visual shows on the screen (the movies u saw of bunny running thru Miami & dancing in costumes) - which play an integral part into the telling of the stories and the live reenactments
He's also an incredibly sick turntablist that plays a significant roll in the live music u hear as well!
(<< haha, defender of the RITM, I think so!!)
And ya, ill reiterate! The Real Hiphop Was Not Over (till about half the party got pissed and either left or sat down in disgust!)
What kind of buildup is it for Mistress to have KRS1 go waaay too long, before her.... RITM is a show you’re meant to watch, not so much dance too... so you chill out, enjoy the show, and rest ure body! THEN... you want to dance again!! BUT how you gunna dance when for the next however many hour+, u see a parade of guys on stage whiney about mainstream, mtv, hot97, and "real" hiphop!!
Lol - sorry, but yes - im bitter that all of my friends lost complete interest in the party after RITM... I kept my hopes high despite krs, eagerly anticipated Mistress' amazing set - but even I lost energy and motivation before the lights turned on and we were fed to the hungry NYC police force - who treated us more like Terrorists than NYrs!
If DanaSOE reads this, give us a little responce eh? The only SOE responce i ever see inreguards to parties is pre, and is stuff like "Nope, No cameras.... Yep, he'll be there...." THanx =)

watching that rap shit was like watching a bunch of hommies see 1 how many of they're hommie friends they could fit onstage at once durring a rave and 2 seeing how much they could fuck up a rave if you noticed all the other rooms were packed durring the hip hop set. knowledge's set was great the room was soo fucking packed it was insaine and the jungle room blew up as well. if i wanted to hear rap i'd have gone to monster jam...
[edit]i didn't get the cops badge i basicaly snuck off so as not to get arrested if the cop was to lie it would be his word against mine your all i'd be able to do anyways would be describe him best i could. large back haird white man between 26-34... sounds like 1/4 of nypd it's not going to be much help... maybe look for the cop with the broken nuckles?[/edit]

So if u just desribe what happened, that'll be enough =)
I mean, sure - its not like hes gunna get demoted or somthing - but i dunno, seems to me its better then just goin "eh, wtvr"
Especially since lets say that girl and guy who probably got ticketed or arrested - lets say they report the misconduct - they probably have the cops names and badges because it'll be the ones that arrested them
Now if it was just them reporting it, it would indeed be their word against his - but if a witness, such as ureself, also contacts the board reguarding misconduct- it would be a stronger case against them, no? You never know - i know if my parents found out i was billyclubed after being pushed, even if i hit back, theres no way they would let it go unheard - so anything helps in the event they did indeed take action against it =) I'm about 2 steps from putting in an annon. report myself!
 
humm sounds like something you should talk to my guy about scary. Springfield cops kickd the shit out of him after true told us no one was getting in for the night. He was made an example.

I keep trying to grace that place with my presence, but something conviently always comes up. I think I'm better off.
Sounds like an OK party all in all, i don't think I missed much.

Wow, im the first of all the people i was with to post lol.
its 11:18pm july 4th, im so exhausted right now. I figured ill type before i go pass out. I had a great time at this party despite all the downsides and overall tiredness. I had doubts because of bad things that happened with soe in the past but i could definatley see that they are doing their best to make up for their past mistakes and i have faith in them once again.
I was supposed to go with my friend to the party and meet everyone there but she bitched out at the last minute so i was forced to take an hour an fourty five minute train ride alone, didnt really mind it. I met a couple of party kids from new haven on the train. I got to the venue around 9:20 and got in within 5 minutes. I was very, very pleased to see there was basicaly no line.
The minute i entered the venue I knew why i went to this party. I have been to the hammerstein for concerts before but never for a party and its size and beauty could only mean the most sublime place to hold an event such as this. I was increasingly suprised by the ammount of people there. Later on in the night it got more full but for most of the night it was a great ammount of people. The a/c was in full effect and it was absolutley wonderfull, at times i was actually freezing instead of dying of heat stroke. As a matter of fact when we left the party after mistress barbara, it felt warmer outside then in the center.
Music wise i wasn't really all too impressed. The jungle room was so off point i wanted to cry, it seemed like everyone didnt want to be down there but they still tried their best. Datcyde wasnt really too good and i was psyched to see him. I've seen tech itch before but this time I wasnt into it at all, it was alot of tracks ive heard him spin before with a couple of exclusives that sounded good. Kazpa was great, as always, but by that time the floor was so soaked that if you tried to dance you would break your neck and it was hot down there.
As for RITM, I went in with skeptisim because im not at all interested in trance. But the music was quite enjoyable as was the stage show, I enjoyed it alot and it was one of the more pleasurable moments in the night. I didnt get one of those light glasses so you can get the full effect, plus i wasnt on acid then i would be raving about how truly wonderfull it was ;)
I actually enjoyed KRS' set, only because i like his music. I dont agree with bringing a million people on stage and screaming about being the most realest hip hop artist out there. But apparently joeski didnt show so he had to fill the gap, anyone wondering how long he was on for, it was 2 hours. It seemed like he would do half a song, stop to shout out everyone and their mother, then do another half a song. the appearance of gangstarr and m.o.p to do anti-up was my favorate part of the set.
I had to see mistress barbara because it was all teddy and kaydub would talk about, and i was very impressed. I was never a fan of hers, but that set made me a believer, even after all the krs crap she managed to shut the party down beautifully and even exhausted as i was she forced me to dance again. I will definatley make it a point to check her out in the future.
After the party i had a great time winding down with everyone. Pauls was so chill and i felt like i hang out with you guys everyday. Although by the end of the morning i couldnt even speak and i just needed to get my ass on a train to get home, as teddy stated "you can feel the i.q. level of this dropping drastically"
I met a couple new bl'ers; Edokey, your pretty cool and bkr, purrr hehe I only saw ya for a little while but it was nice. :)
So to everyone who went to this party and made my night great, I thank you. To teddy, kevin, sarah, paul, jay, tiago, becky, ellen, ralph, jasmine. You guys rock, I swear my stamford heads are the greatest people on the earth and ct kids own this world ;)

I bet you if somebody punched a cop in the face for touching them it would happen real damn quick, ive seen cops hit kids whove gotten into fights at the asylum before. It could happen anywhere. Most people are just sick of the asylum because theyve been there too many times and need a break :)

couldnt have said it better myself
even odi didnt spin nearly as well as he usually does (even tho i love him for throwing down some oldskool)
but overall, the jungle room blew
ny promoters need to start bringing in different people for their parties. even tho odi and kazpa are good, theyre not all thats out there. but im sure they never will, because theyre gettin kids in, why do they need to do more. blah. guess ill stick to philly for my dnb :)
