I'm gone forty.
OK, now you've stopped laughing; I've been in the rave scene in the UK for ten years, love the tunes, love the people, love the pills. I'm just married to a real saucepot of an Ozzie girl, and moving to OZ asap. Is there a scene for us pensioners in the NSW area?
Or should anyone over 40 not bother, and go play bingo instead?

ive got friends that are in their 30's (1 in his 40's) that party harder then myself and a lot of my younger friends. so yeah id say you will find a little nitche for yourself over here
ha and at least youve got bingo as a backup ;)

hey dude, nice to see u are moving to oz! best country :)
yeh well it really depends on what part of the scene u are interested in, and what music etc...
in the psytrance scene there does tend to attract an older kind of a crowd, but hey dude, who cares if u are a lil older than the others, its a friendly scene regardless. but yeh definately u would b sweet at psytrance events :) both bush parties and indoors

Well, now that's what I expected from people in this scene, a truely lovely welcome. Many thanks to scatsam & Taliana for making me feel at home.
So in answer to your points.
I love psytrance, darktrance, and uplifting house. I also love hard house and techno, if the place and the pills are right.
I will be in the Canberra area, so any clubs that don't have a "no oldies," door policy that you could reccomend would be a blessing.
Some clubs in the UK have an unspoken age limit, to stop the dirty old men from getting at the loved-up lovelies.
ps. If anyones heading to the UK, check out The Monastery at Torquay. All a good club should be!The Monastery

Old people who take drugs rock.
I'm from sorta near the canberrian area. I've no idea what the clubs are like vis a vis older clubbers, but that's probably because I'm a youngun.
-plaz out-

Ha! not anymore, my days of Deep Purple/Motorhead/Sabbath/Venom, and rocking like a beast are behind me!! I prefer to dance like my pants are on fire now. :)
But the fact that you consider 43 "old" brings a tear to my eye, even if it was meant in a good way. :S
Thanks for responding my young friend, if we ever meet at a club, I'll try and show you how well this old man and his old lady can ROCK!!!
Best wishes,
Stroppygob.

Nice! Another Canberra bluelighter about to be corrupted by my evil... I mean, welcome to Canberra, there's a nice little crew of us here. :)
Feel free to email me if you ever want any info on the whole Canberra scene, but unfortunately, it's a bit abysmal for a 300,000 person city...
Hope to meet you soon!

Dude as long as you're having fun who cares?! Remember it isn't an older raver, its a more experienced raver :)
See ya next time I'm in Canberra!

Sweet Jesus, is it any wonder people fall in love with this scene? You meet so many great kind people. many thanks all.
I'll drop you both a mail soon guys.. :)

Because Melbourne Rocks!!! :D
It's just a rivalry thing we've got going, and Sydney people are losing, because they're crap... ;)
In all seriousness, both places are great places to live - but we just had to say it... :)

Thanks!
Bit more info on yours truely;
I'm 43, currently living at Lands End, Cornwall, UK.
I met my now wife on a UBB board that shall remain nameless. We are now married, after 17 weeks together, but 2 years online to each other. I have been into the rave scene for many years, and have a good scene going here. I'm moving over there to be with the Missus, and would hate to lose the scene I have here, if there was no substitute there.
Most of the people I party with here are 30-50yrs old, and are mad as a march hares.
So come on you ageing ravers, clue me in!!!

as a senior raver myself i thought i should wade into the debate. having lived in both sydney and melbourne and travelled frequently between the two over the last ten years, I'm an expert.
Both have some great rave parties of very high standard, however for underground scene- melbounre wins hands down, as it does for the club scene too. MANY Melbourne DJs and electronic music makers are of international standard, and clubs such as teryarki and hard kandy will take your breath away. Finally sydney guys cant dance... i dont know exactly why this has happenned. ;) maybe its a gay thingy.
Melbourne dress code is a bit more relaxed while the sydney siders prefer to dress "smooth."
I've never partied in Canberra, but i believe they move the tables outta the way, turn the lights down and play the juke box louder than happy hour at most pubs after 11pm!!

eddi: blow me :P
Canberra's got a small but dedicated scene, only problem is that everyone bitches far too much about it, as opposed to actually going out and having fun :P
Hell, who gives a fuck about a venue, who gives a shit who's playing, or what style of music...
Just get out there :D

LMFAO if only you could hear how wanky (and like Computer_collector) you sound......

I think all the people bitching about how everything is f*cked and how they're oh so jaded could learn a thing or two from this thread.
Good on ya stroppygob :)
I'd rather party with the over 40's than the under 18's any day.

hi calvin...
what got you so nasty then?
didnt i use enough smiley's or winkies for you...
jeesh, I'm not even from melbourne... I'm from perf.
i moved here by choice coz its the best city in AUS...
i couldve chosen anywhere, i chose melbourne, so go figure... and yeah, sydney guys cant dance...I'm hardly the first to say that buddy.
