Okay losers, post here! v. The Weight Loss thread

The Meth Diet works quiet well.

No joke. Although I don't do meth and don't need to lose weight, my experiences with amphetimines have included like two days of having no appetite whatsoever.

Not only is this idea terrible for your physical and mental health, but is also completely counter productive. Amphetamines cause a temporary increase in metabolism and temporary appetite suppression. But when you stop using there is a rebound effect on both your metabolism and your appetite, where both go PAST where they were before on the other end of the spectrum. In addition to this, starvation diets cause significant muscle loss. Less muscle = lowered metabolism.

Simpler than plans

" But the quality and timing of what you eat definitely effects how your body uses those calories. Take an extreme example: You could eat 2000 calories of pizza all in one sitting. Your body is going to use what it can in a few hours of digesting, and after that the rest will be stored as fat. "

Right on. Here's something breathtakingly simple that works to maintain and enhance weight loss for 9-5ers: Don't eat after 6pm. If you're a night person, figure out your "not to eat" time yourself. Hydrate, but no meals.
Kudos to those who are hanging in there!

My "diet" is not really healthy, but it works, and I heard some asshole just made a few million bucks selling a book with basically the same idea summed up in 300 pages of text. 8)

Anyway, what I do is I eat rarely. Ever notice that if you eat a big brunch you can usually eat more at dinner time? Well, I usually eat nothing for most of the day - which is fairly easy because I feel somewhat nauseated most days. I only start getting really hungry after 17:00, and if I smoke pot. ;)

I don't drink anything carbonated, because I read an interview with an eating champion from Japan (the Kobayashi guy) who said all he needed to be able to expand his stomach was a lot of carbonated water. The gas helps expand the stomach!

So basically, after a few days of eating one dinner and not much of anything else - the amount I can eat at dinner decreases. I get full from far less, and start having more and more leftovers.

The great thing is I can eat what I want, I don't really watch what I eat much at all - just how much. If I'm eating something fattening I'll have less - and basically I try to savour every meal and make it as appetizing as possible.

Again, I have some nausea problems, so I can't really imagine eating a lot of something that's not appealing - I'd rather eat a bit of something very appealing =D

However, I haven't found any place for sugar in this diet, it's bad for my stomach and just makes you want it again the next day. Two days after you quit sugar you don't need it any more, imho.

My top weight before I began this (undoubtedly unhealthy!) cycle was about 120kg (roughly 240 pounds, I think), I currently weigh about 75 (150). Still, should work out more - I've no doubt lost muscle mass. I'm 187cm, which I figure is just over six feet.

--- G.

You sound like me. I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder, so it is natural for me to not eat as much as normal people do. I usually eat once, or twice a day at the most. The thing is, my metabolism is fucked up. The other week, I lost 10 pounds. I checked my weight this week, and I gained it all back. I ate a bit more then usual, but still was not having more then 2 meals a day. I want to lose weight, but it's hard for me to do so. I am 5'10" 190 lbs. Some days I do situps, pushups, and lift weights. I am planning on joining a local gym and using all the machines there. I think that may help me.

If you are trying to gain weight this is a perfect time to start strength training. If you are worried about getting "huge" don't be. Full grown men spend many years of training and perfect diet to get huge muscles. In fact, the vast majority of women lack the hormones to that big anyway.

Also if you want to gain weight without looking fatter, you could try to eat healthier. What you eat has a big effect on your body composition.

Haven't posted for a while.

Tally so far : lost 3.6kg (8 pounds)

Week 1 -2.3kg
Week 2 -0.6kg
Week 3 -0.07kg

So it is slowing down, which is realistic and dissapointing at the same time, but as long as those numbers are going down, I'm happy :)

Not so sure about this week though, had a terrible day on Saturday where I drank nearly 2 bottles of wine at the races, and ate a potato cake out of someone's fish and chips. And tomorrow I have a work lunch at a Chinese restaurant and the guy who takes us there *always* insists on ordering a banquet (cringe). The newness is wearing off a little and I'm finding it harder now. Still - I will persist!

You will eventually reach your genetic limit when you have lost all you can lose. The best thing about "dieting" is that you establish a healthy eating pattern and you can maintain that low weight easily by continuing it.

If you break it now and then though I wouldn't feel so guilty.. you'll stop enjoying food, which is a terrible thing to do! :)

Ahh well, g'luck in the next few weeks..

Are you doing much excercise as this will of course maximise the benefit you're getting from eating lean.

Those snacks aren't much, and not large, but I need something at least every 3 hours... maybe I am weird!

Far from it, this is about the same as my eating habits and is pretty much recommended from a lot of nutrition literature (read: not "fad" diet literature).

I also find I'm very hungry during my waking hours, wanting to continue eating right up until I go to bed.

Doesn't matter how large the meals I eat are I'm just always damn hungry.

Nuts, muesli bars, fruit, wholemeal bread, salads.. when does it end!

Guess its the lack of refined sugar and saturated fats which have a habit of filling you up quicker than healthier/leaner foods (or the 1-2 hours of training I do).

Yup, walking mainly as I am not very fit (currently). Monday nights I go for 40 minutes, Tuesdays 1 hour, Wednesdays 40 minutes. I walk quite fast. I would like to increase this to 4-5 days but currently my Thursdays and Friday nights are booked up and I haven't quite found the motivation to get up early ;)

There's room to improve there!

Swim! :) Should get to the pool, albeit its a bit of an effort for most because it actually means you gotta go somewhere to train (I much prefer sports I can practise without 3rd party requirements).

Having said that though, you should try get into running. If you're already walking I assure you it is something you will start (perhaps not at the beginning so much) to thoroughly enjoy!

Hey. I lost about 40 pounds in the last year 1/2.

I started working at an organic food store (Whole Foods), and began to eat lots of vegetables and fruit. No crazy diet ideas, just eating semi-balanced meals. Stop eating as soon as you're not hungry anymore - don't keep going until you're full. Cut soda pop and other sources of high fructose corn syrup out of your diet. I still have a weakness for red vines and coca cola, but treat it like a drug habit. Once and a while = great, all the time = gross.
Walk everywhere. Walk to work, walk to school, walk around your neighborhood. Go for a walk when you have a cigarette.
Dance. Seriously. Go out every weekend and dance your ass off no matter how jiggly you are. Some MDMA makes exercise fun ;) but I've noticed the really fat e-tweakers never really lose weight. Don't make amphetamines your weight loss tool.

thats that
I've also been working at a organic food shop and have probably lost around about 5kgs in the past couple of months. I'm not actually on a diet, but I rarely eat meat anymore, most foods I eat are vegan actually. I also barely touch cows milk anymore as I find that my body can't handle it very well and if I do it has to be skinny milk. Oh and because I have access to a juicer at work then I have been drinking lots of vegtable and fruit juices. Was also having wheatgrass shots, but after it making me feel queasy last night (don't have it after a big weekend) I'm not going back there again. Because I'm also rather busy these days I tend to not really eat a lot, only really 1 main meal a day and maybe a small snack as my appetite has gone down a lot. Oh and if I feel like a cake or a muffin then I choose one that's dairy free, gluten free, and sugar free. I think for the most part though I haven't really intended to lose this much weight, it just happened.

I'm bulking at the moment, but in about 4-5 months i'll be posting in this thread when I start cutting.

Personally I prefer walking briskly at a very steep incline. It gets your heart pumping just as much as running, but with much less impact on your knees. Only problem is that you need a tread mill to do this.

I used to run - I was running every morning for 30-35 minutes at one stage a couple of years ago. I'm sure I'll get to that stage with walking where I have to run in order to keep my heartrate up... it takes a little while to regain your fitness back. It's only my 3rd week.

ps. I did find it very hard on my knees and ankles... in fact it was an ankle injury that stopped me running last time. Walking is much kinder to your joints, but you have to go hard and fast.

I hear you sister, I'm currently battling with Illtibial Band Friction Syndrome in my left leg :(

thanks for the advice but i work in a gym and my undergrad degree is in nutrition. so i know how to eat. i do get big quick when i work out, which is fine, but im not allowed working out at all. i have an eating disorder and am in a day treatment hospital where they basically feed me there and i go home to sleep (plus shit loads of therapy). yeah its a blast. they call it voluntary boot camp

I have realized in the past week, that I have officially lost 100lbs since the beginning of HS. I am currently 22, and have gone from ~285lbs to 182lbs.

I mean, I knew I had been losing weight and getting really fit, but 100lbs is huge.
:D

I'll post back more when I have a little time.
I'm working on an english paper right now.

i dropped from 230lbs in college to 155lbs. Ran 7 miles everyday 5 days a week and adjusted my diet. Works wonders!

After you lose the weight you can maintain it by remembering to do a little bit of cardio everyday and eat things in moderation

I used to weigh 96Kg. Dropped down to 66Kg through a mixture of mass dietry change, excercise, stress and meth. Basically, changed my lifestyle because I was doing a lot of meth, I figured I needed to offset some of the damage meth was doing with an overall healthier lifestyle.. I'll acknowledge that meth played a large part, but the fact I was able to keep it off after stopping showed that the changes I made were effective.

I started going to the gym and I'm now up to 73Kg, which is where I want to be. I can also now run for 5km (when I started I couldn't go 1).
