Memes Official Meme Discussion Thread

Well, he's won humanitarian awards, so it seems like he's doing something with his money (ie, his power). And their latest tour, they gave 100% of ticket sales to charities and activist organizations within each city where the tickets were sold.

I agree this would be sufficient for a person with conventional politics.

I also understand branding yourself as an anarchist when you are super young and idealistic. I did.

but a 56 year old Harvard graduate still calling himself an anarchist (AND lecturing others) , that's different.

There is a way to convey the message:

Why?
Don't you consider Noam Chomsky to be an anarchist, too? Now he's not at Harvard but at the MIT, but there's no difference for me tbh.
I understand where y'all are coming from, that especially teenagers are first drawn to anarchism. But it's not like it's this edgy teen meme ideology, it's a serious political ideolgy since 200 years which had a lot of supporters over time, some among the greatest minds like Oscar Wilde.

So again? Where is the reason why you can't be an old person and be an anarchist, too? And it's not so much about lecturing as much as spreading the word as in the saying "each one, teach one".
But if you prefer, I can call it lecturing, too. I'd have no problem with attending lectures of Chomsky for example.

@TheLoveBandit I think this post is in extremely bad taste. Yikes, that's disgusting.

Noam is a cool guy. I hung out with him and his Z magazine acolytes one summer in Cape Cod— they ate lunch at the cafeteria at the facility where I worked (good food). It’s difficult for me to reconcile the idea of an anarchist with a place in Cape Cod, but I’ll keep trying.

I more have a problem with the money than the age issue.

nothing to do with the age IMO. It's the lifestyle that makes him hypocritical. I'm still an anarchist somewhere in my heart but I can't call myself one out loud anymore because I don't believe it's possible in the society we live in. People are too fucked. It's a fantasy. The only time I labeled myself that way was the couple years I lived out of my car. Pretty easy to live the life when you're broke anyway.

You gave the post a reaction which created an alert. Not sure why a quote isn't doing so.

You recognize that's the same two guys Jussie Smollett hired for his fake MAGA attackers, right? And the pic was posted with the #AlexandriaOcasioSmollet trending, so it fits. Not sure why you say it is in bad taste, but you're welcome to your opinion.

Ah well I don't know who Smollet is and honestly overread it. As an European, I can only be so familiar with what's going on in the US.
I just heard about AOC talking about her experiences at the Capitol wannabe-coup and her past experiences of abuse.
And since I've been seeing a lot of memes claiming AOC lies, I found it to be disgusting. What happened to #BelieveHer or whatever the hashtag was?

I like Chomskers too, he was an influence on me and a lot of people on the left.

He was always stronger in regards to what he opposed, rather than what he was for, IMO. As far as what he actually advocated for, it was usually pretty boiler-plate stuff IMHO, just a pretty boring retread of early 20th century anarcho-syndicalism...a lot of the people who Chomsky cites approvingly, like Rudolf Rocker, were admittedly quite admirable historical figures, imo, but it's hard for modern people to relate to stuff like revolutionary/anarcho-syndicalism, the structure of the modern economy just isn't particularly conducive to a revival of that sorta thing...

That was always something that frustrated me about Chomsky, the fact that his criticisms were often so dynamic, well-informed and exciting, while his solutions were conventional, boiler-plate, even archaic. The same people who inspired young Chomsky were the same kind of people who inspired me, the rebels...it's a romantic ideology imo, anarchism and syndicalism...its political demands are maximalist, aspirational, and certainly not realistic or practical...but one quote I really like from Malatesta (who, strangely, I've never seen Chomsky mention) on the issue was "not whether we accomplish anarchism today, tomorrow, or within ten centuries, but that we walk towards anarchism today, tomorrow and always."

Fair enough. Smollett was the black actor in Chicago claiming he was attacked by two guys in MAGA hats who poured bleach on himself and hung a small rope as a noose around his neck. We had a thread on it here, and he did indeed hire those exact two guys to help him. Cops eventually found the receipt for the rope and they confessed.

The #MeToo (not #believeher) was in relation to women coming forward claiming sexual harassments, rape, or other such sexual attacks. Wholly unrelated to AOC being very vocal about how scary it was, making statements of 'we came close to half of the House nearly dying', when none were harmed and she wasn't in the Capital building when it was stormed. She goes further responding to another Senator (Ted Cruz) via tweet:

For having agreed with her on a separate topic

Thanks for the update.
Well I saw the tweets you mentioned and idk. If I were in her position I would choose similar words. Even if she wasn't in acute danger, there was definetly a plan to kidnap and/or kill congresspeople. And she is one of the most hated by the far-right.
Also I recall her talking about being sexually attacked/harrassed or sth like that. So I meant it was pretty insensible and shitty in this regard, because it had nothing to do with the capitol thing but was just also dismissed as hyperbole or whatever, when she probably has made the experiences she claimed. I mean pretty much every woman in western societies will get sexually harrassed, abused or worse, at some point in her life.

No 'direct evidence' of plot to kidnap or kill lawmakers in U.S. Capitol attack: Justice Department official

Yes. Yes, she is.

Tbh, I never heard about her being assaulted/harasser, but you're not the first person I've heard mention it recently so mehbeh she was.

Hrm, a little search provides a video where she did state this recently.

Now, I know.

I find the rampant smearing of AOC to be pretty gross, too (not just over this but in general). Plenty of her Republican colleagues expressed that it was traumatic for them, too, I don't know why no one is ridiculing them for it.

Let's see, crowds shouting "kill them! kill them!", breaking into the building, some of whom were carrying wrist zip ties. I wonder why anyone would have thought they might be planning violence against senators?

Have you seen video of it? If not, you should.

The right needs a woman to hate on the left. Now that HRC is pretty much irrelevant, AOC is the new target. It's sick.

So apparently there's talk of yet another split from the republican party. It's going to be the "anti-trump" republican party.

For those who voted republican, where do you stand?

Are you an elephant, a lion, a donkey or whatever this new animal might be?

So much in there just melds together for a nutcase stew. I mean, you have Lousianna, and QAnon, and GOP leader...is it any wonder Child Pornography is part of this twisted mind? A least the public knew not to listen to him and he lost his bid for political office.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Project co-founder accused of stalking young boys, going back to the last 80's.

George Conway Denies Close Ties to Lincoln Project Co-Founder John Weaver

Anti-Trump Lincoln Project co-founder George Conway tried to put distance between himself and his colleague, John Weaver — who has been accused of online harassment, sending sexually explicit messages to young men — on Monday, contending that he did not know him “very well.”

Conway reacted to the allegations lodged against his colleague during a Monday appearance on Morning Joe, calling it “terrible and awful and appalling and unfathomable.”

“I didn’t know John very well,” he claimed. “Frankly, I only spoke to him a couple of times on the phone early on in the Lincoln Project.”

“I just, it’s almost — I don’t even know what to say,” he continued, adding that the turn of events left him “speechless.”

However, in late 2019, Conway strongly promoted an op-ed penned by himself, Steve Schmidt, Rick Wilson, and John Weaver, the last of whom faces accusations of sending provocative messages to young men. One of the accusers said he began receiving the messages as an adolescent.

Karl Rove On Disgraced Lincoln Project Founder John Weaver: I’ve ‘Known About This Pattern Of Behavior Since 1988’

“The Lincoln Project was founded basically to be a very strong anti-Trump organization and to paper social media and everywhere else with anti-Trump messages. John weaver was one of the people who ran it,” MacCallum said. “He has a lot of accusations against him from young men who call him a sexual predator. You mentioned this back in 2004, that this was a concern of yours. You know, this isn’t something that anybody really wants to be vindicated on, but it turns out that you were right.”

“I didn’t mention it in 2004. It was printed in an Atlantic article by Joshua Green, who is now a major figure in Bloomberg. I’ve actually known about this pattern of behavior since 1988,” Rove said. “All I want to say is that the 21 statements from those 21 young men who talked about how they had been approached by Mr. Weaver, that statement speaks for itself, and I don’t have anything to add to it. It’s a sad, sad chapter.”

In January Weaver admitted to sending “inappropriate” online messages to multiple men and said that he was gay, as previously reported by The Hill. The New York Times then reported on Jan. 31 that 21 men are accusing Weaver of making “sexual overtures” towards them.

The Lincoln project released a statement on the same day as The New York Times report, calling Weaver a “predator, liar, and abuser.” Weaver is no longer associated with The Lincoln Project.

The 'meme' about some backwoods Louisiana nutball that nobody listens to can be pointed to society seeing a bad man for what he is and treating him accordingly. The co-founder of the anti-Trump propaganda machine, whose proclivities were known about for decades and ignored, and still is by MSM, was broadcasting to a nation and being listened to. What does that say about us?

im confused @TheLoveBandit .... is this a reference to the last election? Because Trump lost the popular vote and electoral vote in a landslide. Nancy and Chuck won back Congress. I'm confused.

Trump was acquitted after his second impeachment but 7 members of his own cult defected and if it had been a private vote many more would have.
