So I'm considering gauging my ears out to a size between this:

and this:

and I'm wondering how limiting that would be in terms of job outlook. Obviously working at some upscale restaurant or something would be out of the question, but what are some types of jobs available with gauges like these?

Also, I would have a college degree when applying for jobs. And btw, I'm only gauging the lobe, not the other parts shown.

Grease monkey? I've heard from a few people that even the shittiest jobs out there don't accept that if you want to work for them.

Do yourself a favor and hold off, in 5 years you'll be happy you did.

Enough people around have them that can't all be unemployed or working shitty-ass jobs though. I like computers and music if that helps.

I wouldn't mind something in computers (though I'd have a lot to learn) or music. I'm really open to anything other than something with really demanding physical labor or child/old people interaction.

Dude its a lot harder than you think. I have a job now and i have my ears gauged to a zero and it was hard enough to get a job. Most jobs are gonna make you take em out if its any kind of a public job. They dont want you scaring customers with those things and imo it looks worse when you take em out and you got huge skin loops underneath.

Manager of a mall store that requires me to wear slacks and dress shirts not exactly your typical gauged ear hippie music loving kinda job ya know. Its the complete opposite of what i dress like on my own. I make good money and am still in school so i dont mind the mall job plus lots of milfs woohoo. And i live in the bible belt of the US so you can imagine how hard it was.

my 2 cents

for myself, i am w/o body modification of any sort, except for some lazer hair removal to fix an annoying unibrow.

i think the smaller sized glass plug look fine and are acceptable, but the larger metal plugs, such as the second picture just look disfiguring and ugly IMHO, especially if u have to remove the plug

i would not subject myself to "jewelry" that would affect my employment in these daze!!

^Yeah, it's hard enough to get a job as it is, getting those thing will put you on the margins of employment. Basically, you'll need a job where looks/appearance don't matter and you want a job with low physical labor and low old people/child interactions.

I guess being a moderator on BL fits your job descriptions, now only if that paid.

Heh, by low physical labor I mean like I'm not in construction or something exhausting like that. A crime scene cleaner looks appealing; they wear hazmat suits to work, so my face wouldn't get seen too much. And also I'm considering a sound engineer, so I could work with a lot bands into that 'scene'.

what are you going to school for?

i know people making $100,000/yr and they can dress/look however they want. and i know people making minimum wage who have to follow strict dress codes. and vica versa. it all depends on the field you are looking to go into, and the company you end up working for.

Most likely music/audio production with maybe a double major in something I'm not sure of yet.

I work for the state government, granted I am working through a university, but my ears are gauged out at 00g. Prior to that, I never had any issues with getting a job because of my piercings. Now, yours would obviously be much larger than mine, but it really depends on how well you present yourself otherwise, from personal experience.

Most of the time jobs that include dealing with the public require conservative appearance. I used to have my nose pierced and that is kinda on the same level as gauged ears and most jobs made me take it out.

Only my lab jobs, biology clinical or scientific, allowed for the piercings and crazy colored hair. My supervisor was a total stoner. She came in stoned each day and she is seriously one of the smartest people I know. But I didn't deal with people at all, other than co-workers and everyone was so laid back.

Consider getting a PhD in your field of interest. If you are good enough to be an asset to the field it won't matter that you'll have gauged ears. People will give you respect for what's in your head or what you gave to the field.

If you are interested in music production/sound engineering look for a program on the PhD level. It's not a bad idea at all. I'm sure there are things that need to be studied in that particular field. PhD programs are free and actually also pay you a stipend of around 25,000 per year during the time you study for your doctorate. It will take you around 4 years to complete but you'll be a specialist in your field and I think a PhD seems like something that fits what you are looking for.

What do you think?

Thanks for the input guise :) ^yeah that doesn't sound too bad

EDIT: Also, when one is applying for a job with gauged ears, would it be better to leave in the plugs or whatever one has, or should one take them out completely?

Are gauged ears really that important to you right now and why? Are they more important than having infinite career opportunities? Are they worth having limited career options?

I would not do this if your looking for a job, especially in today's economy. I personally would not hire a person with extreme facial modifications @ my business. it just does not look inviting to customers.

unless your planning on working at a tattoo shop or HOT TOPIC then you will be A ok
