Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

^Hehehe. ;)

It's amazing to me people are trying to find a conspiracy in this. Sometimes dumb things happen. This is one of those times.

Then again sometimes people subvert the proper legality of thing's and the public sees it for what it is, utter and complete bullshit... 8)

He was nominated before anything they said he's getting the prize for even happened.... It's bullshit, like I said...

Whatever you want to think, dude. lol

Yes, because him getting nominated for something he didn't even do yet, and then getting the award for something he was nominated for doing although he hadn't even done it yet makes complete sense. You are just as bad as the rest of the people that will congratulate him for an award he will receive for doing absolutely nothing.

How the leader of a country that has military bases in hundreds of others and is fighting two dubious wars with no end in sight could be considered for a peace award is beyond me.

His rhetoric is more palatable than bush's, but the policy is the same. Spreading our system of government through imperialism.

His country has more people in cages per capita than any other, is in more debt than any other, has more nuclear weapons than any other, spends more on the military than the rest combined...peace awards? He wouldn't even talk to the fucking Dali Lama because it would hurt relations with his bank (china).

Clearly there is an evil plot at work.

Guys... the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by five Norwegian legislators. To be honest I'm not sure why it continues to have any cachet ("hey man, at least 3 Norwegian legislators thought I deserved this.").

Those five legislators are chosen by the Norwegian legislature as a whole. Knowing nothing else about it, the position sounds like a nice sinecure.

There aren't any rigorous criteria, and of course there's no oversight.

The news made a splash in the United States, appearing somewhat incongruously among headlines about the debate over whether to send additional troops to Afghanistan, how to reform health-care, where the economy is going, etc. Bit odd, in the midst of all those substantive policy debates about what to do, to find that Obama has been awarded a prize for things that haven't happened yet.

^^ Just another sign that the people in Europe haven't got a clue on what is actually going on half the time either. So much for the being on the higher road of political intellectualism.

Clearly there is an evil plot at work.
Rather just more useless pandering, and crap from the Democratic appeaser's. Oh wait, you were being sarcastic. How cute in light of your great contribution's to mankind, and peace throughout the world that you are clearly the light of sanity, and rational thought. See, I can do it too, you idiot.

Though I like Obama, the best thing he could have done was reject it (but he will not). In light of many others who might have won (some of whom have risked life and limb), it both cheapens the Prize and highlights how little he's really done, not even a year in his Presidency. One wonders if this wasn't a left-handed compliment.

Perhaps its what he hasn't done that deserves him this prize.

FCS, simply replacing Bush has to be the biggest shot in the arm for world peace we've seen in 9 years.

after thinking about if for an hour, I don't think its "dumb", just profoundly vain of a bunch of European policy wonks to think the most important thing that happened this year was the re-inclusion of their precious, precious opinions in world affairs. I'm all for multilateralism and diplomacy, but I had forgotten how self-important Europe can be after 8 years of politically pissing in their eye.

At any rate-- the peace prize is silly, just like the literature prize. Google that list, and circle all the names of people completely forgotten by time, and note the glaring absence of some of the 20th century's most important writers.

hahaha I wonder what will be said when he ends up sending 40K more troops to Afghanistan?? That's all they're doing. Controlling him like a puppet.

"OH, well I can't send more troops out when I was just awarded the PEACE prize"

He's all talk!! What has he actually done that he said he was going to?? Close Guantanamo?? Now they're not even going to have that done by Jan.(which i don't agree with)

Hey let's just go ahead and give an up and coming director the Oscar for the picture of the year...he's going to make in 7 years...maybe. What if we did everything ass backwards like this??

There's really not much to do but just shake your head in disgust.

it's like going through withdrawal then getting that amazing hit: we can't have it worse than bush. we went through the bush period, and now we have normal bullshit politics/diplomacy again, but it looks like hope and change and a new era of enlightenment because of the period we just went through 8)
Yeah, I think you're on to something here. That this was awarded to Obama, it's saying a lot more about Bush than it says about Obama. Apparently, they REALLY didn't like how Bush treated the rest of the world, and just seeing Obama say things like "we're all equals, we should all work together to solve problems" seems to them like some massive shift towards world peace.
