A clandestine online marketplace is the source of scores of drug interceptions each week.

Customs said it was on "high alert" keeping up with shipments from the Silk Road website.

"We became aware of Silk Road late last year," said Customs manager of drug investigations Mark Day. "There was a wee bit of information internationally. It wasn't a lot, but then we started to trip over a couple of imports that were brought in."

The Herald on Sunday first revealed New Zealand links to activity on the website this month.

Notable seizures included a 171g crystal methamphetamine parcel and various high-quality cocaine, heroin and MDMA shipments. "There have been approximately 80 intercepts a month [from] people we believe have utilised the Silk Road enterprise," Day said.

In cases linked to Silk Road from January to July, 13 search warrants were issued, 15 further properties visited and seven arrests made. People in Waihi, Takaka, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch have been linked to Silk Road.

Innovative smuggling attempts included an overseas drug vendor who cut into a bubble-wrap envelope, put tablets inside bubbles, then resealed the bubble wrap.

Our earlier report stated child porn was offered on the site, but there is no evidence the products offered involve exploitation of underage people.

Never used this site but I think if I did I would only use it for acid. Try finding that stuff, if you can, customs!!!

Yeah and don't order from overseas as it doesn't go through customs who screen and check packages and envelopes, where as the local mail service doesn't afaik (in this country anyway). I'd imagine even acid (even tho no smell apparently) would show up on an xray of some type as something looking odd in some package or mail, the more ordered the more risk. Some people would be getting busted for importation and possibly commercial supply whn ordering large amounts from OS. Stupid.

Certain countries would be flagged as well, like columbia, holland, amsterdam, netherlands etc.

Putting blotter tabs alone in an envelope may show up as "odd" in an X-ray. But putting them in the middle of a paperback book is less likely to show up as anything. Someone closer to source could do something like impregnate parts of the inner packaging material.

I've heard about this site several times. Never would I use it, simply too risky. I refuse to order internationally, simply because I do not want my packages being intercepted by customs. I'd much rather order domestically through a vendor.

Its an interesting concept but flawed in many ways. Better to not take the risk of hurting oneself.

i have a friend who has ordered from this site multiple times without trouble. it was only small amounts though. a gram here a gram there. letters are almost always going to get through dependent on the level of stealth is. it's parcels and larger packages which are the most intercepted.

They open books up though, i would be careful with that. I mailed some LSD to my friend in NZ and it got thru just fine They would have had to tear it to shit to find it, i am not saying my method though. Liquid is even easier to send, you could probably mail a dosed letter into a high security prison. I would use SR if the vendor was in my country and had something i couldnt get myself. I think if we all just ground up schwag and dumped it in mail boxes everywhere we would impede the drug dogs ability to find shit.

Wow, who'd have expected a retraction as detailed as THAT!?!

That's an interesting collection of countries you got there ;) Lol

Ive never used Silk Road either. Knowing my luck I would probably get caught. But I find the whole Silk Road thing and how its changing the game pretty fascinating.

Exactly. Agreed 100 percent.

Also, it has to be ink jet, that's how you get the speed. Laser printers only create the L isomer.

keeping up with shipments from the Silk Road website.

Think the journalist should have done some more research. I mean I hope he understands the shipments can be coming from anyone.
