My enjoyable experiences with nutmeg
(this is my first post guys, so be kind)
I had tried nutmeg two or three times previously with positive results. I’ve heard of some people really hating this stuff though and thought since I’ve had a good time with it I might share my latest experience. I wasn’t thinking about writing a report at the time I took it though so I don’t have much in the way of specific times, etc… This was also not my best time with nutmeg but my most recent and therefore easiest to document.
For the preparation I took about three medium sized whole nutmegs and grated them finely to create about two tbs. of powder. I had previously always heated the nutmeg in milk over the stove but was short that day so I diluted it with about half a cup of water to make just a little under a full cup. I let the mixture heat up until it was steaming but not simmering and let it stay this hot for about ten minutes. I combined it with a little spiced cocoa to make it more palatable and added just enough water to cool it. The concoction was really not that bad. I’ve found that adding sugar, cocoa, and some other spices (cinnamon, vanilla, etc…) helps to mask the flavor of the nutmeg slightly, making it more palatable (if you think this stuff is bad, try C. zacatechichi tea). It will still leave the taste of nutmeg in your mouth forever, but the flavor shouldn’t be so overpowering.
I drank the concoction around 5:30pm, just after removing it from the stove. Normally, I would have drank it on a partially full stomach but I was still not hungry from lunch so I forgot. After about an hour I felt my skin flush slightly although it was in no way uncomfortable or disturbing. I noticed my ability to concentrate on looking at or thinking about things also began to decrease. About this time my friend, L, came over and we went for a drive. Cognitively, I could not pay much attention to the stuff passing us quickly on the road but conversation with L was easy and enjoyable. As time passed I began to feel very much like I was just ever so slightly drunk or high but without the heady feeling that sometimes occurs with it. Overall I felt good. I was smiling (like being high), I felt very comfortable (except I could still taste the nutmeg), and the visual aspects of everything at sunset were quite beautiful although not especially “different.” I had a sense that everything was brighter and more intense; however, it was only a feeling of something being slightly different from normal. L and I continued to walk for a while and goof off in a pile of boulders for about an hour and a half. Conversation and minor actions were still a lot of fun and I felt kind of goofy. I remember laughing a lot at really stupid stuff and being amused by simple things. Through most of this time, however, I was rather hungry and thirsty although I normally work hard outside all day and I hadn’t eaten since lunch. When I tried to eat I realized I had cottonmouth and felt dehydrated. This continued for the rest of the night but was not intolerable. I did have some trouble urinating, however, and it was apparent that I was unusually dehydrated.
Around 9:30 the feelings changed. I felt heavy, my eyes were bloodshot, much redder than when high, and I felt extremely sedated. We walked for another half hour or so but I couldn’t or didn’t care to pay any attention to anything around me. I wasn’t particularly interested in anything around me anymore and my head felt muddled. I still had a sense of feeling good, however, and continued smiling and laughing although a lot of other stimuli lost their interst and my cognitive functions were slacking. It was dark by now, however, and we were still outside walking which may not have been conducive to feeling physically good or experiencing much visual stimulus. I went home around 10:30 feeling the same as I had and watched tv for a while. By this point the feeling was not much different from being really blazed. Around midnight I went to bed. I had trouble sleeping at first but eventually slept like a log. The other times I had tried nutmeg I slept unusually lengthy amounts of time for me (I think I slept for about 10-12 hours) but woke up feeling completely normal. This time, however, I had to get up for work the next morning. After sleeping for about six and a half hours I got up and felt like crap. I was so dehydrated I wanted to spit out my coffee. I drank over a quart of water in the next four hours. My head also hurt slightly, I couldn’t think straight, and I had a lot of trouble paying attention. Although some of this may have been induced by my little sleep, much of it I attribute to the nutmeg. These effects wore off within about five hours, however, and were not dissimilar from a hangover minus the nausea.
Overall, I would say nutmeg is an interesting experience. Every time I’ve tried it I’ve enjoyed myself. The feeling was always something between being stoned (my first time like being very stoned) and drunk although never exactly like either. I’ve had a lot of fun with it and as long as I could sleep as much as I wanted afterwards, the hangover never affected me. I would suggest to anyone who wants to try this, however, that it is not really a substitute for pot or alcohol. I also consider myself to have a good tolerance for nausea and many other side effects of most drugs I’ve tried so my results may be slightly different than others’. If you do try this, I would recommend based on my experiences to drink a lot of water, eat something small beforehand, and try a small dose your first time to see how you react. This stuff is also pretty toxic for you so don’t do it too often.
To those with the taste buds, have fun.
