The problem Ive came to realize in my experiences is that you either try heroin and stop before you become addicted or you continue to use and become addicted then die..... Of course for some its like a never ending struggle while your on it then comes the whole trying to get off of it .... You know the rehab the treatments the support group the cravings.. whole deal then you get right back on it.... Is it me or do you never see old heroin addicts?!/! Now is that Cuz heroin addicts die before they're old or what???.. Opinions comments anything?

Ive seen old junkies... not many but their out there, in my experiences they usually like to keep their use on the DL, even around addicts... but yea for the most part people hooked on H either end up dead, in jail, or they get their shit together

yea i mean 50ish prob oldest ive meet.... shit its not like theres 95 year old bangin H in nursing homes lol would be pretty crazy tho... i think alot of older ppl get addicted to pills and dont even realize it, an aunt of mine was well into her 80's and they switched her script up and she keep complaining that she was having cold sweats and feeling sick and all the other WD symptoms one goes through, and i asked her what meds they switched and she was like ohhh they took me off my oxycodone and switched me to something else... and i told her she was going through WDs and that its the same shit all the young ppl she looks down on are going through too and she did not believe me at all until her doc told her..... in fact nick sabans sister lives right across the street from her (im assuming your a bama fan with what you put as your location)

That'd be some shyt tho right!! Excuse me nurse can u help be find a vein my hands won't stop shaking!!! Hahaha no shyt!!!! Hell yes I am!!! roll tide!!!

I've certainly determined my D.O.C. to be opioids/ opiates and after playing 'Drugstore Cowboy" (or Cowgirl if you will) with only the best pharmaceutical offerings to get my nod on naturally but being as how I would use this class of mind altering substances (or at least administer them) in solace I luckily had little opportunity to reach out and try my local community's actual 'heroin' (I seriously doubt JAX has much to offer in the way of anything in the way of purity, hence the reluctance to use the word heroin- more pain management clinics than you can shake a stick at though). This is a VERY good thing as if I had developed a network or became a part of one I would've most likely found my way to prison as opposed to the local funny farm to detox and get on subutex a few times over, I already pay them quarterly visits in the average year as a result of some fallout or another due to co-morbid psychiatric conditions that I struggle with daily. I will still take a percocet prescription for some boo boo or another when seeking medical treatment without hesitation and enjoy the euphoria while there are still pills in the bottle but I've stopped giving hypo's from a valid B-12 rx to administer fentanyl, exalgo, opana, etc. etc. to my luck dragon as when I used to do this on the regular and definitely on the down low his tolerence skyrocketed, his veins started hiding, he got so very ill and was little more than a frantic living breathing pin cushion. I do fantasize some times about how it was in the very beginning- so very easy, no need to seek, had legit and very generous rx's for a few different one's- all top's in that realm for me, my insurance foot the bill for the lot of it...then it got ugly...very ugly. Now I try to keep my chin up and avoid the psych ward with prescrbed stimulants, benzos and sleep aids...I will hook up my luck dragon with some nice hydro too if it's going around...I find life (although at times way too mundane) a bit easier to live this way as the CNS altering 'meds', 'drugs', etc. that I now take don't make me their bitch! It's not much of a life but at least now it's my f'n life and not the dragon's that I spend my relentless efforts chasing. When you try something that you absolutely LOVE think twice and assess the costs both immediate and to come before committing :\

Unless you were born into wealth, have a hearty sum of money saved up, or are making a lot of money I'd imagine that every year a person uses brings them closer to being homeless.

There are actually quite a few old junkies here in NZ- I wouldn't be surprised if there were more middle aged addicts (inc. people on 'Done for 20 years)here than young ones, certainly the rate of use was much, much higher 20/30 years ago.

Homebake helps keep people alive- you have a much better idea of how much you're really taking and it's harder to OD as you'll tend to cook it up in small amounts (~200mg is usual, never more than 1g- even if I had a gram I'd do it in a couple of turns). Back in the '80s when NZ was legendary for having ultra-pure heroin (Terry Clarke figured people would pay top dollar for guaranteed uncut 'black dragon' heroin) people died in droves.

Oxy is slowly creating a new generation of addict though...On a much smaller scale. Young junkies tend to have very little to do with older junkies- the young ones want oxy and benzos, the older ones want morphine and AA- different markets, very different scenes. The homebake scene is very...DIY, it has a lot in common with shake-n-bake meth, only it doesn't suck.

The only ones I knew of started in their 30's or 40's. Its really not got a good survival rate, the 2nd most expensive rehab in the UK say once people leave 33% will be dead within 2 years, 33% will relapse within a year and the other 33% will stay clean for at least a fair while or forever. Don't know where the other 1% go...

They still exist..my aunt is 54, and still uses heroin when she's out of pills, and been doing heroin for 38 yrs. She's a snorter, never did needle.

My mom, ashamed to say, is an old schooler, too. She says heroin was best in 80's/90's , but refuses to touch any of todays product, claiming it's cut crap.

I've never had a heroin addiction, tried it twice, I think, didn't like it much.

That 1% live more than 2 years as a junkie

Drug addiction isn't very healthy, that they (we) don't tend to live as long isn't super surprising :|

It is the drugwars fault. After we got rooms to shoot up in, with health care personnel and free Heroin to people registered, fatal OD's hit bottom here in Denmark.

The oldest heroin addicts I know are in their mid to late 40s. Husband and wife duo. They are still currently using, but they're periodically homeless and live off of unemployment and disability, respectively. They live at a weekly place now since they have so many evictions that no one else will take them. Oh, but I did meet an old, old, maybe 65+ year old couple at a heroin and meth dealers house once. They were dressed in classic hippie garb: tie dye shirts, bandanas, the works. But I think they were just picking up some meth.

I know of a woman in her 70's, in a nursing home-still poppin' pills (heavy opiates) and pissing in her bed cuz she's too darned high and lazy. Her health otherwise makes her fully capable of getting up and using a bathroom.

I was addicted to heroin (iving)for about 8 years,now using methadone for 22 years (currently 180mg per day).30 years of addiction.That's a very,very long time.BUT,without my weekly prescription,I wouldn't be alive anymore.For sure!Methadone was my 2nd chance.
