Now I don't want to sound jaded here (even though I probably am) but some of the posts that are going round at the moment are shit house.
I mean no offence to the instigators of these posts, but who really cares (and whose paying for the bandwidth) about your pets name, or whether its impossible to make curry laksa at the same time as reading other useless posts......
I think the posts about the boat off Christmas Island is a good post because it is a good conversation topic and could really display varied opinions about contentious issues.
Really, I used to have good debates on Bluelight and have interesting conversations.
Let's try to come up with something better than pet names, which just for interests sake has been done to death here several times....

Been noticing that myself over the last month or two, the posts have been quickly degenerating to a pathetic standard.

, when I start a thread it's usually to facilitate discussion. Every now and then there'll be some funny web site or email posted, but we all do that sometimes and it's good in moderation.
If someone starts it, I'll usually respond. But when making a new thread we need to think about the sort of responses we're going to get and why we're starting it at all. Because if silly threads don't start, then silly threads can't be replied to, so silly threads will cease to exist...

yes... i think some irrelevant posts are necessary... the funny ones are anyway... all serious debate gets boring after a while... apart from that...

BUt who says that a good discussion can't spark off from a seemingly irrelevant post? Everybody's ideas and opinions vary drastically, you never know what someone may make out of something.

I think that the events/meetup Forum is all there really should be... Most of the partys mentioned don't really rock my boat anyway...

well, i see what you're saying Bass Junky... and i do kinda agree with you, and yes, i'm guilty of starting at least one "bullshit" thread...
but really, "who gives a fuck"? it's a social forum, isn't it about discussing the lighter side of things? if the only threads on bluelight were "important" ones, how boring would the place be? i just think sometimes we shouldn't be so uptight about it all, and not take ourselves *too* seriously. and let's face it, if you don't like the topic, i'm not forcing you to read it or respond...
sure, it'd be a pain if every time a BLer was stoned/tripping/chopped/drunk/dribbling on the keyboard and started a thread about how the room is spinning and they love us all, things would warrant more severe action. But i don't think it's reached this point (or even anything like it) yet. I like having fun on bluelight as well as reading about harm reduction and upcoming events, and i suspect a lot of people are like-minded. I think this forum is moderated well, enough light-hearted stuff around, but not too messy.
but yeah, this is how i feel about it. SOCIAL... it's a bit different to the other threads...

I agree totally. I may be drunk as a skunk right now... that's what happens when you don't drink for a couple of months and then you friends take you out. I'm guilty of starting more than one useless post (though they're not usless to me) but if you don't like it, don't respond.
