No More Sugar.

very good point, i eat loads of salad and vegetables etc, so should be able to cover the loss of fruit with other healthy things that have much less sugar

corrected.

hah 8)
well today i've been good, only had maybe 2-3g of processed sugar from my protein shake.
i think ill just stick to cutting out processed sugar for now, and when i have more control over my life (in quite the pickle right now :( ) i'll work on cutting down on natural sugars.

i'll still see some benefits from stopping the processed sugar right?

I have cut down on my sugar.

Is anyone in this thread smoking weed?

How do you deal with the munchies?

I have gotten carbs through non-grains, such as legumes, sweet potatoes, and what about complex carbohydrates? I've lived well thus far... have I been defying nature? I would at least challenge that "all humans need [grains] to live."

I just don't want for people to think that a completely carb free diet is healthy or a good idea. In many of your posts it sounds like you are advocating a totally carb free diet.

I was trying to show how carbs are a necessary part of human metabolism, by providing some of the processes where they take center stage (and give people something to read up on if they are interested ;P). Sweet potatoes/normal potatoes have a load of carbs (starch is a longer carbohydrate chain), and legumes are also a pretty good source.

I am all for trying to cut out processed sugar, and if what you are doing makes you feel better then more power to you.

goddamm.

I went to get an apple and there are a bunch of hershey bars on the counter.

and I took one.

By not smoking weed anymore.

If you smoke weed, a side effect might be the munchies. If you don't like the munchies/ are trying to lose weight and you get them really badly when you smoke weed, then you have a decision to make.

Don't punish yourself by saying "I'm gonna smoke weed and not get the munchies." If you want to avoid eating so much sugar, just stop smoking weed and get control over yourself.

This applies to everyone. Don't punish yourself, just try to avoid that situation for long enough for you to be able to say "no" when that situation arises.

There's no reason why no sugar = no pot. Just when you get the munchies, eat something that doesn't have sugar in it...

what rhythmspring said

better still, dont keep any sugary food in the house. simple

DING DING DING DING DING! We have a winner!

I'm shocked that no one mentioned this before--Unless they did and it got lost among the jibber jabber. :P Seriously though, it goes for any food addiction (or even any addiction!): If you don't keep it in the house, you can't readily access it!

Also, as far as "don't smoke pot so you don't get the munchies," just learn to have some control over yourself. I lost weight while smoking pot because I got control of the munchies.

Not to mention savory foods taste a heck of a lot better IMO when you're high. ;)

;)

a little tip...try a few tins of tuna and loads of salad to get rid of munchies. minimal calories, minimal fat, zero sugar and high protein intake which will make you feel full. it works

... That's what I meant (somewhat) by "avoiding the situation". If there's nothing there, you can't eat it.

Damn my mom for buying so much damn food. Lol. Addi, help me think of a rule so that my mom's food isn't so tempting.

What advice would you have for someone with an extremely low income? Unfortunately all the healthier things cost so much more; I don't know if I can afford to cut out the bad foods. And that saddens me. I want so much to be healthier and have access only to healthy foods, but it is so difficult when living on such a low budget. :( Please, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Eat rice. consume in season local produce.

The bulk section is your friend. Protein can come from bulk beans, nuts and seeds, and canned sardines (a lot less mercury than tuna, more omega-3s, cheaper too. It's good stuff!). Buy cheap produce too. I don't think healthier necessarily equals more expensive. There's a lot of processed stuff out there that claims to be healthy, but it's really just a loss. Eat whole foods.
