who do you like more nivana or alice in chains
i say alice in chains nirvana is great but not as talented as the original member of AIC

Lol Kurt Cobain is nowhere nearly as talented as Layne Staley. =D

I like Nirvana, but I love AiC and Mad Season.

Gotta be nirvana. The first time I heard smells like teen spirit my musical life instantly changed for a solid 5 years. I have moved on now but that influence is still there. Plus nirvana was the better live show from the videos I have seen.

woah take it from a man that's been to both an AIC and nivana concert layne's voice doesn't even need to be edited in a sound room plus they level of talent that alice in chains possessed surpassed nirvana nirvana was great but AIC were magic even the new album can't remember the name but the on with the song lessons learned shows as much talent as nirvana don't get my wrong i love nirvana but AIC is deeper and takes more talent on every instrument layne's voice was better than kurt's jerry cantrel was a great singer too

nah i looked it up i was thinking about black gives way to blue
even if i just go by my fav song from each band down in a hole beats lithium

I would have to agree. Nirvana / Kurt Cobain has a had profound effect on a huge number of people.

I don't actually know much about Alice in Chains but just listening to parts of their MTV Unplugged performance, they have a similar sound. For me what makes Kurt Cobain stand out is the tone of his voice.

I will have to educate myself with regards to Alice in Chains though... :)

MTV Unplugged in New York is my favourite Nirvana Album. It's not often that I prefer Live over Studio albums.

Tough one. Alice in Chains and Nirvana are my two favorites. Nirvana has more songs i like though, so I'll pick Nirvana.

can't stop listening to sappy i still like AIC better but damn sappy is a awesome song

Ok, so Kurt Cobain songs were 'so easy' to play. Kurt never pretended he was a great guitarist but fuck me he sure could write a song and change the face of music with it. Musically and live u could say AIC were better but then Nirvana's Reading 92 performance was a par with the greats. Also, Nirvana unplugged is far superior to the like of AIC and Pearl Jam. I love AIC etc but Nirvana r one division above and no one has matched them 'all so easy' melodies since his death. Sappy is a great song and so too Old Age :)

PS Saw Jerry Cantrell at Camber Sands many years ago, he was bloody awesome. Same cant be said for AIC recent albums which have maybe one or 2 ok songs :(

AIC all the way. laynes voice is just unbeatable, great guitar, great lyrics. cobain had many of these things too, and some amazing songs, but just not as many. they are close and similar though. however the fact that nirvana is just such a stereotypical " im so deep and sad " band kinda ruins it for me. AIC is much less popular which i like.

lithium is actually an anti-depressant

Just thought I'd update my thoughts...

I've now listened to the MTV Unplugged album for Alice in Chains a few times... it is absolutely amazing. I've not listened to anything in a long time that has really had an impact on me, but this has.

Nirvana still has the edge but it's like Wayne says above... if I'd heard them both as I was growing up, I might have thought Alice in Chains were better.

I really like Layne Staley's voice... it's not dissimilar from Kurt Cobain's at times but has an edge to it; I also thought he sounded slightly like Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam on certain notes. It's not a shocker considering they all originated in the 90s Seattle Grunge scene....

i vote neither i can't listen to that depressing shit.

Right on Treezy. But if forced to choose, it'd have to be AIC. Head to head best albums (nevermind v. dirt) Dirt wins hands down. Concept album about how much dope sucks. Great album. AIC on the whole were better musicians. I was 14 years old in 1991, the year of Nevermind, Ten, all those alt rock 'masterpieces.' Always thought that kinda music was shitty. Who wants to listen to some DB complaining and whining about how much stuff sucks. We all got problems. Get over it. I just don't write songs about mine. I'm not that rude.

And who knew that the guy in Nirvana with the most talent was actually Dave Grohl. Go figure.
