Nintendo's "Project Café"

"All you really need to know is that Nintendo's new system will be more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. (We've been told "significantly" more powerful, though it's impossible to determine that at this point.) Project Cafe will be capable of supporting 1080p HD display as well as stereoscopic 3D, though we don't know if Nintendo plans to aggressively push 3D for its home console. (We're thinking it won't.) "

I. Want. So. Bad.

I think I will get Butters to freeze me until it comes out (or at least until E3).lol

The Xbox 720 and the PS4 will be better, as usual.

lol.

playstation has a new phone coming out, looks pretty sick

i stopped foolin around with nintendo shit since the 64, loved that shit. i knew the gamecube was gonna go sour, and the wii wasn't as good as a xbox or playstation.

so if they come out with anything, it needs to do with less of the gay cartoony kinda shit and come out with something pimp.

Surprised Nintendo would tip their hand like this, unless they know something about Sony's or Microsoft's next-gen development schedule?

My understanding has always been that both Sony and Microsoft have wanted to extend the longevity of their consoles to maximise profitability, essentially delaying the next console power struggle, in order to continue licking the deep financial wounds that such exercises bring. So Nintendo's move seems like a tactical attempt to pre-emptively capture some of their rivals customer base?

Either way, a new Nintendo system that exceeds current xbox and playstation capability isn't really that tempting. Current xbox and playstation technology is over 5 years old... so it should be better! But I can't imagine that supremacy will last for long once Sony and Microsoft release their consoles. Even if Nintendo launch in 2012, any future xbox or playstation will fucking trounce it.

Yeah, technologically. But what good is a bleeding edge processor if you're just going to use it to render painfully-realistic reproductions of dismal post-apocalyptic war scenes? And run games with no actual content appeal aside from high res textures and snazzy lighting effects?

Just one look at Super Mario Galaxy will tell you that the artistry in the visuals, and creativity in the gameplay design are equally as important as the hardware. That's where I think Nintendo really has an edge.

I'm almost inclined to think that the newest technology is deteriorating games. With the processing capability that current-gen systems have, developers that want their games to look the best have to spend all of their budget on graphics engines.

Although, one shouldn't take my rant too seriously, as I have played neither an Xbox 360 nor a PS3.

To be competitive they need to, things were getting much to gimmicky and I think they will learn a lot from the 3DS.

I find it difficult to disagree with that.

I guess I'm hoping that at some point, game developers will catch on to the idea that they might want to use that extra processing power to make local multiplayer an option in sandbox games.

No, business is ruining games. When John Carmack makes pixels look more beautiful he doesn't make games worse, its suits like Bobby Kotick that are greed mongers who make shit games with 98% chrome and bought off teenage reviewers.

Once games started making billions of dollars is wasn't about making good games, it was about investing in games to ensure quarterly profits. And thats what fucked gamers.

Couldn't have said it better myself Applecore. I never get that most gamers want to play first person shooters...ww2 over and over and over again. Just not me. Games like Oblivion are awesome though...the new one looks very promising.

100% spot on... how many times can you play the same first person shooter with a new face lift? The video game industry wouldnt ever have come this far if it wasnt for Nintendo.. The big N always pushes the envelope in terms of technology and innovation.. Always coming up with new ideas to appeal to a wide variety of people. The games that are made for the 18-35 male demographic are awesome.. they really are.. but what else?.. Motion sensor... Exercise games.. Titles that involve the whole family.. etc.. none would be here without Nintendo.

I wondered when nintendo would get back to the ways like when they had the SNES since then they just done their own little thing for the family audience

hopefully this will prompt some more exclusives from other consoles and provoke game developers to start thinking out of the box because all the games we have been getting lately are just remakes upon remakes upon remakes, its time we get some new fresh ideas and hopefully this move from nintendo will bring some
