Ok. I just want to see if anyone else is like me too as I have yet to talk to ANYONE that has experienced nicotine addiction like me. Well the only person that has is my brother.. Anyways let me get to the point. I have smoked enough cigs to become addicted but i have never had an urge to smoke a cig. The only time i really smoke is when im with friends hanging out and getting high. All my friends wonder how i have not become addicted to cig's but when im alone, I NEVER and i mean NEVER smoke. Not because i try to not smoke but just for the simple reason that I never even think about it or anything.. For example, theres been times in my life where i have smoked cigs everyday for a month and then all of a sudden ill just stop because ill not be with friends that smoke. I've probably smoked at least a few hundred packs of cigs in the past 4 years and still have never felt addicted to cigs. So when my friends say they need a smoke or w/e cuz they are addicted i just think to myself "how the hell can u be addicted to smoking? it makes no sense, you dont get anything enjoyable really out of it and it doesn't get u any higher or anything like that" .. So is there anyone else out there that has smoked plenty of cigs to become addicted but have never got addicted?? my brother is the only other person that has had this same experience as me. And me and him aren't even that close or even hang out with each other so i know its no enviroment or anything, im thinking im just immune to nicotine addiction and I honestly cant understand how anyone could ever be addicted to cigs.. makes no sense to me...

i don't understand your reasoning for not being addicted.
people don't buy hundreds of pack of cigarettes because they like wasting their money.

they do it for the social aspect of smoking and the small rush of nicotine you get.
just because the social aspect is more appealing to you, it doesn't mean your not addicted.

would you be fine never smoking again in your life? i think not.

^ Yeah actually it wouldn't bother me the slightest if i could never smoke another cig again. Like if a genie said 'if you smoke one more cig you will die' it wouldn't even phase me.

Yeah, just imagine, I don't think I am addicted to sex (yeah, it really exists), and I wouldnt feel fine I am not going have a sex again in my life. So am I addiceted?

You're probably not immune, maybe you just have a higher tolerance to it.

yeah im the same way. I NEVER smoke alone, like it doesnt even sound appealing, but ive had periods of a month or 2 where a friend who smokes was living with me and id smoke with him constantly but then when he left smoking never even crossed my mind. The only thing that made me think i was getting addicted is after a few weeks of smoking id feel like a cigarette after eating.

I have been a light smoker since I was about 16. Never had a true habit and actually stuck to it. I am at an average 1 pack a week sometimes less and I do smoke the most in social situations or on opiates. If I have a supply of opiates I am significantly smoking alot more. Just because a few million people have "a pack a day" habit doesn't mean your weird or different if you don't.

i usually just smoke when i'm on other stuff that it potentiates but i kind of lose my desire to smoke if i'm sober because it's so boring comparably and it costs too much.

I'm not really prone to physical addiction. I've had no problem being a weekend warrior with coke, opiates, whatever, and stopping when I needed or wanted to. The hardest thing I've ever quit was cigarettes, and it's because of the social factors, not nicotine addiction. I haven't smoked in forever, and I still miss it every time I see someone light up, or when I'm drinking with people.

Addiction can be physical or psychological. Don't write the second one off just because the first one isn't a problem.

^^^ yeah i've pretty much abused all the major substances and the only thing i still haven't been able to stop doing every day is smoking weed ironically.

I know a few people like that. I was like that for a while, it's possible. There is some link to mental urges that start it, and eventually link to a full-on addiction. Others never have that problem. I am a straight up cigarette fiend when I'm drunk, or when really stressful shit happens (like police, I can't face them without a cig either during or immediately after the run-in). I can go weeks or months on end without touching a cig if I had to if not put in one of those situations, which technically is an addiction i guess. It's not half as addictive as some people say though, many like to pull the whole "more addictive than heroin" card out about cigarettes. False. The only reason people get that idea is because wayyy more people do smoke cigs as they're legal, much more socially accepted, and an entirely different game. Yeah you think it's annoying to quit smoking, and it takes a lot of willpower? I bet it doesn't cause physical pain and vomiting...
Nicotine technically = a drug... but not really at all.

These people who smoke 4 packs a day, i just can't understand at all.

What's addictive for one person or another varies, but for the vast majority of people, nicotine is the most addictive drug. I know people who had no problem quitting heroin/cocaine/meth use, but still have a problem trying to quit smoking cigarettes.

Nicotine is a very addictive drug because it indirectly interacts with many different neurotransmitters. Alcohol's highly addictive nature can also be compared here due to the fact that alcohol works on multiple receptors as well.

Alcohol is a good example of a socially acceptable drug - and not as many people become addicted to alcohol when compared to tobacco.

Because the psychological addiction that nicotine has on some people far exceeds the psychological pull heroin addiction has on the same people.

Physical addiction is not a main reason why drugs are addictive. It plays into it for sure, but psychological addiction is the epitome of why drugs are addictive.

It's the same for me for the most part.. i find that the only time i really crave a cigarette is when i'm intoxicated on one drug or the other, but if i'm sober i really don't feel the need to have a smoke even though i've been smoking every day for the past few years.
The real reason i ever started smoking and the reason i keep smoking is because of the social aspect.. -i started smoking to get closer to this girl- but now i also love to have a smoke whenever i've been using.. especially when taking opiates into consideration..
something about heroin makes cigarettes taste sweeter; i swear to god.

Actually... to bump a thread I have something to say.

I started smoking cigarettes back at five years old but by that I mean experimenting with them when I didn't know how to inhale or anything. I first learned to inhale at about ten years. After my first inhale with no cough I was smoking about 2 a day so a pack would last me a week or two :)

I smoked two a day for a long time, about til I was 15. I could go weeks on breaks without them too so I figured, nah I wasn't addicted and by then I had at least smoked two cartons.

Long story short, I never wanted to quit, not because of addiction but more of the fact that it helped. Stress and such. I'm close to 20 now and I AM addicted, IDK when it happened but I tried to stop a couple months ago and made it a month after regular smoking of about 6 a day. I wasn't addicted for a long time, but I am now. That's just what I had to say. One day when I get married and have kids I will stop though, no matter what it takes.

Sorry if there are any errors in my writing, I'm gone from Opiates.

Dude ^^^ That must be a type-O because you said you started smoking at 5 YEARS OLD!?!? WTF? no way.. anyways I still cannot grasp the idea of cigs being addictive?! But maybe thats b/c i have had to deal with REAL addictive substances... Opiates for instance are the only addictive substances on this earth to a human.. and i know someone will argue with me but they are just being ignorant to the idea of addiction.

- "Oh no jah you are the one thats being ignorant to the idea of addiction"

me: Oh ok and what substance have you actually been addicted to that is on par with an opiate addiction?

you: Blah blah nonsense nonsense nonsense...

My point has been made...

PERIOD >

I've been smoking for over a year and a half. I consider myself a non smoker now because I just find them a little gross. I was able to just stop smoking no problem. I've stopped a few times since I turned 18 because I just didn't want to smoke them for a while. Every now and then when I see a friend smoking I'll smoke one but I don't crave them or anything. Tobacco just isn't that alluring to me. I understand how they are addicting to other people but they just aren't to me. I smoked them daily for a while but it was never more than 5 a day, I just can't stomach that many cigs.

If you say your not addicted and you could quit any time, then why don't you just quit all together? No sense screwing up your lungs if you don't even like the damn things.

i'm the same way. i never crave them. over the summer i smoked a lot more due to the people i was with and the things i was doing. i also love a menthol when i'm piss drunk. people have been giving me that, "ohhh, you're gonna get addicted, watch!" for years now. and they still give me that baffled look when they ask to bum a cig and i say i don't smoke.

Sqigzs sez; " If you say your not addicted and you could quit any time, then why don't you just quit all together? No sense screwing up your lungs if you don't even like the damn things."
ditto for me!

something doesn't add up here. i have lost and am loosing family to tobacco. it is a hard, hard death for such a shit intoxicant. why do you that boast of immunity to the nasty asswipe habit keep tossing five dollar bills at it. fucks so good with waking up with a mouth that tastes like bung?

some of you younger members explain please?
