NEWS: New drugs trigger death, overdoses

Are they dosed listerine breathe thingos?

I hope they were being sold for what they are and not as LSD!!

Hasn't there been some deaths from dodgy pills central coast area, saw a glimpse on the 'news' the other night?

More innocent young lives lost for a war on drugs. What a pity and a shame!

This isn't the first nbome death btw either-

Misinformed, irresponsible, and downright idiotic thing to do, i just hope people figure out how dangerous these things are used irresponsibly, before letting the media whip up a mass hysteria for the banhammer from these poor individuals who made stupid and tragic mistakes.

A NEW drug causing bizarre and irrational behaviour has emerged in South Australia, and has led to the death of a man who killed himself by repeatedly running into trees and power poles.

The two drug types - known as 25B-NBOMe and 25I-NBOMe - were responsible for the death of a man in the Mid North in March, who died from injuries sustained after running into fixed objects, trees and Stobie poles as a result of an overdose.

In the past 11 days, there were two non-fatal overdoses - also in the mid-north of the state - in young adults who were related to each other.

Drug Investigation Branch Acting Detective Superintendent Derryn Phillips said the relatively new drug was believed to be made in China and bought over the internet.

She said its long and short-term health issues, and its presence interstate, were unknown.

The drug is a derivative of potent hallucinogens, 2CB and 2CI, both banned substances in South Australia. They are marketed similar to LSD.

"The effects of these drugs causes bizarre and irrational behaviour, paranoia, fear and confusion. Other effects include increased body temperature, sweats and seizures," she said.

"Overdose on these drugs is a reality... and can obviously result in dire consequences."

Acting Det Supt Phillips said users of the drug were setting themselves up as guinea pigs and often tended to double dose or redose if the effects of the drug were not felt immediately.

She said there was nothing to suggest the drugs were isolated in the Mid North.

"The issue with these drugs is that they are not regulated in this state, but they are chemically aligned to drugs that are regulated and so anybody purchasing these drugs runs the risk of being charged with trafficking in a controlled drug in this state."

In a separate incident, a man, 23, will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on October 9 charged with trafficking in a controlled drug after he was arrested for purchasing 25B-NBOMe.

Further drug information is available from the Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia on 1300 131 340.

^ @ mister - Our analogue laws are very vague. Technically? Illegal. But do we have any legal precedents to work with? Not to my knowledge. My understanding is that NBOMe drugs are not specifically scheduled, though they may contain traces of precursors (ie 2c-I) which would make them illegal.
So...complicated. But not "legal". Maybe "grey area" at best.

In that last news article it says they are charging a man with purchasing 25b-NBOMe.

Damn. He must have been losing the plot big time.

Yeah, says they're scheduled in south Australia? I wasn't aware of this.
Drugs should be regulated, not sold on the black market. This is another case in point.
From all reports a wonderful family of drugs with great potential - for both good and tragic experiences.
I think people should be able to access these things in safely prepared dosages, the pure powder form is apparently too dangerous for the general public.

I had a couple of opportunities to try 25i, but didn't get anywhere with it.

First two were blotters; they were supposedly 500mcg, so I thought I'd go with one and see what it was like. Sublingual method didn't produce any results at all. I figured it may have been bunk. Second one I tried bucally - also no result.

Third opportunity came when someone I know had some powder. There were .001g scales available, but I declined because I just don't know about the NBOMe series. I've heard lots of good things, but I've also heard lots of horror stories due to the difficulty in getting an accurate dose. As Spacejunk said, the powder form is too dangerous for a lot of people because the margin for error is so low, but even with blotters... unless you know the person who made the blotter and have great faith in their precision, it's a pretty risky thing.

I wouldn't trust .001 g scale unless you are measuring out a lot of doses and diluting it.
As halif says, the margin for error on this one is very small.
It's really sad that people are suffering such serious injury and death from what is supposedly a very illuminating psychedelic.

They used to say "You don't find LSD, it finds you". Some people think this means that it is some mystical element that bends the universe's space-time continuum before selecting it's host when reality is it was just that the wise men who controlled this drug just tried their hardest to ensure that idiots didn't get their hands on it. Without sounding too elitist this is an unfortunate side effect of a wide range of powerful psychedelics being freely available to the general public.

Some people should never be allowed to trip. Then again some of these people shouldn't breed either.....

Haha I think you would've got along well with Aldous Huxley. He had a similar intellectual elitism - both in regards to the 'appropriate' use of psychedelics and to reproduction. In Brave New World Revisited he referred to "the world's teeming illiterates" and lamented that less intelligent people tend to have more children.

Call me a snob but I would prefer bush buds from the rainforest ;)

Off topic but aren't rainforests humid? Growing plants there would make for some pretty weak buds.

It's shit to see RC's being sold as LSD again here but I can say for sure that I would rather take 25C than LSD any day. It is one of the greatest trips I have ever experienced and should be on the bucket list for all Psychedelic lovers.

They are probably making an example of him and will drag him through court for as long as possible, like they did to every one with the Meph cases.

Interesting that he is being charged with 25B, apparently the precursors are far harder to obtain as well as less places making or distributing it as it will always contain 2C-B which is illegal in most countries making 25B almost non-existant. Not to mention the fact that from trust worthy accounts it isn't anything special trip-wise and comes with more side effects than the common nbomes.
