I am new to shooting H and haven't been able to successfully do it yet. I must have missed a vein in my hand and now it's a little swollen and itchy.

Will my hand be okay? What can I do to learn how to do this better?

Advice, suggestions, comments?

Thanks?

How many times have you tried and been unsuccessful? Do you have someone that has shown you how? Have you done a ton of research on the negative aspects of this? What is your history with/tolerance to heroin? Why IV it? You didnt give us much info to go on...

A missed shot in your hand can go either way..you are just going to have to see what happens with it.

And right now you are talking to someone who has been a nurse for 20 years and just did a shot this morning and am suffering from cotton fever (though I did not use cotton) for only the second time in my life...so there are lots of issues to deal with when shooting...and trust me, I am sick as a dog right now.

I have a good tolerance to heroin, never IV obviously. I alos have a bunch of 8mg Diladud that I would like to shoot. I don't have anyone to show me. I have tried 3 times, failing each. Each time when I couldn't hit vein and draw back and see blood I just aborted. This time I thought I saw some blood and so I pushed it. My tolerance with opiates in general is about 90mg oral a day. I do have micron filters but didn't think they were needed for heroin.

I'll give you an info I can. I am a little less concerned about my hand the swelling has gone down. I just wish I knew how to hit a vein.

Edit: speliing.

Edit: I have also been plugging 16mg Dilaudid and haven't had any issue with it being too much.

Edit: I believe I know how bad shooting is, which is why I got the micron filters for pills. I also realize its not the best road to go down.

Thinking you've registered, and continuing injection is a really stubborn and easy way to fuck up your body, and also is something I've noticed a lot of new IV users do - myself included in the past. Just be careful, take your time, and make sure that you've registered. Inject going in at a parallel angel to your skin, and at a site where you can easily slide the needle forward, and into your vein. If you're using 1cc syringe, I'd suggest switching to 1/2cc as the size will be easier to handle in your hand, especially when checking that you're registered. I've noticed it's really easy for myself to unregister when trying to push up the plunger on 1cc syringes to check if I'm registered.

Another thing I've notched is that when I am sometimes trying to register I only see a small amount of blood draw into the syringe. The rest just fills empty space. I think this is because I've pushed through a vein, though I'm not entirely sure. This happens more often when I'm using certain brands of needles for some reason (the only ones available that aren't BD brand where I'm from). If this happens, just pull out, and try again. I wouldn't recommend using the same needle more than a couple times.

When I was using poorer technique, or lesser quality drugs, I would consistently get red swollen areas on my injection sites. These were not abscesses, and didn't hurt too much, though they could get irritated and annoying a bit. If you're not doing it already, I'd recommend pre-cleaning your injection sites with IPA, and make sure to wash your hands and be in as clean of area as possible. If you don't mind using the extra syringes, you can use one syringe to draw up your solution, and then squirt that solution into that back of your second syringe. I believe the correct way to do this is by squirting that solution towards the bottom walls of the tubes. Not directly down into it, but aim for one of the sides kinda near the bottom and let it slowly fill in. This way you have a totally fresh needle for injection.

I personally use micron filters when I use heroin IV also. This is so it eliminates any matter or cut that it is in and also helps to filter out some of the bacteria..I will admit I do not use a fresh filter every single time, but I do clean it and keep it very clean and use it a few times. i just cannot bring myself to IV heroin without micron filtering it anymore due to worrying about what I am putting into my veins...plus the benefit of it getting out some bacteria...just better safe than sorry (for me anywyas)

@Hatious
icepack that spot on/off for 10 minutes at a time to reduce the swelling.

@Peel
First "pop" is breaking the skin, second "pop" is breaking through the vein wall... don't go past the second "pop". My hands get shaky pretty often so that adds another layer of difficulty, if you think it's not in the vein then check by pulling back the plunger again and if you don't see more red then you're not in it, and missing can be pretty painful/irritating.

Here is a tip. ALWAYS use clean needles, and there is more benefits to clean needles than just safety. Clean needles hit easier than dull old ones. If you have trouble finding a vein use a tourniquet, remember to release the tension before pushing down on the plunger though because this will fuck ur veins. I like to just use a tourniquet to get a feel for where I need to go in. My veins are alright for injecting, I like to go on my hands and wrists a lot. The vein that runs right below my thumb is good. If it is cold or I'm dehydrated than I first prep the shot and place it down close . Then I use a tourniquet to locate the veins and release. Then the vein I want to use like for instance the one that runs up my bicep, I will make a mental note of where it is with the tourni, release , then I take a HOT washcloth and press it over the bicep for a minute or so, then I take my thumb and start to work blood into the vein by massaging it (slapping your arms like you see in movies doesn't work, you have to massage and rub the vein). Next I take an alcohol swab and sanitize the injectIon site and get the needle in my hand making sure the open side of the needle is facing up. Then when I can barely see it I go in, the instance I break the skin I pull back a little so that when I hit blood automatically enters the syringe and I don't have to gauge when I have to pull back. Once a little blood enters I pull back a little more, and steadily push down and halfway through the shot I pull back a little lore to make sure I'm still in so that I ensure I don't miss.

Supplies you should always have on you: .2um micron filter (and thus u need a lure lock syringe . I prefer 3ml lure lock), alcohol swabs, neosporin, clean needles, clean cooker, hydrogen peroxide, and a sharps kit to discard of used needles.

When I miss a shot, I immediately run to the nearest sink or bathroom, heat the water up as hot as it can go. While it is waiting i pour hydrogen peroxide onto a towel and hold it over the missed shot. Then I soak the same towel in the hot water(the hotter the better (it might be a painful but scolding hot water will help dissolve the shot quicker and kill bacteria)and do a warm compress for 5-15mins. This will help the drug dissolve into your skin so you still get some of it into your body. You won't get the rush but you will still feel it. Then I dry the missed shot injection site and put neosporin over it to prevent any abscess from forming. There is a neosporin the acts as a topical analgesic so I use that to help with the soreness and to halt any abscess or infections . You can also take some ibuprofen or aleve(naproxen sodium) to reduce swelling .

If you are goin to use needles , please take the proper precautions to promote safety. Also if you have to take an hour to do a shot then I suggest taking a break from the pins and let your veins heal upon your elbow so it will be easier to hit. If you hit one spot too many times you will develop phlebitis (inflammation of the vein. Your vein will be hard and feel like a rope), phlebitis makes the vein temporarily unusable for IV use. This will go away if you leave the vein alone.

Stay safe man,
-laC
