Media New media and anti-intellectualism

I think we should prosecute Russian propaganda operations like Tim Pool. or should foreign state actors be able to hire whoever they want in the US to spin propaganda?
Lol, guess I spoke too soon. You just want to use propaganda yourself to justify jailing American citizens who use speech that you don't like.

Maybe you're spreading Chinese propaganda. Who knows! We should ban the 1st ammendment just in case

No. I mean people with common sense and intuition. People that uderstand the differences between culture and race
So, from your perspective - what's the difference between culture and race, and can you give an example of someone demonstrating a lack of understanding that difference?

You don't understand that cultures can be multi racial while some races have their own cultures?

by propaganda you mean DOJ indictment?

Pool, who also has more than 1.3 million YouTube followers, has been identified as the person most likely to be "Commentator-2" in the DOJ indictment, who allegedly told Tenet Media “it would take 100k per weekly episode” to make joining the company “worth his while.” The indictment specifically said that Commentator-2 was unaware their deals with Tenet were being bankrolled by Russia. Pool first rose to prominence by livestreaming the Occupy Wall Street movement before carving out his own brand of conservative commentary. Pool, 38, interviewed Trump on his podcast earlier this year, and has been criticized in the past for giving guests like the Proud Boys and antisemites a platform.

Yeah he's a grifter. It's not a mystery

I didn't make a statement about what I did or didn't understand. I asked you to clarify what you were saying and give an example as I am trying to understand what you're referring to.

The thing is, nobody is commiting a criminal offence unless you can show funding by an organization, entity of individual proscribed by local laws. So if one is proscribed, there will always be more. So clearly you can't prevent people being paid for content.

As a general rule 'follow the money' is often (but not always) the easiest way to go. Tax returns have lead to Podcasters being shown to take money from shell companies. I can only presume proscribed as the IRS flagged it. Kostiantyn Kalashnikov and Elena Afanasyeva were proscribed and a few podcasters were asked hard questions.

But they will just find other ways to pay.

Accept it's a thing and move on to considering what IS possible.

That's not at all what I said. No I'm not okay with him getting jailed for speech. You know that too but you're a word that you guys banned
how do you feel about protesters being jailed?

being jailed for accepting payment from a foreign state to create political propaganda is a bit different than just speech

I'm uncertain if they WERE jailed.

But Tim Poole was one of the people identified as having taken money from those proscribed individuals. Dave Rubin and Benny Johnson were also identified. But you know what? None of those names mean ANYTHING to me.

I think the problem is that like laws in most nations, a prosecution has to demonstrate 'mens rea' (guilty mind) and they were all paid by an off-shore company who, it's reasonable to argue, is not unusual for sponsors. So should they have undertaken due dilligence? Maybe. But you can bet that there would have been multiple shells so at some point a person can say 'I DID check everything I could'.

But some nations allow the 'ultimate beneficary' of a shell company NOT to be identified.

I assume it's much the same way drug money and money for illegal arms is moved about. So I presume IF law enforcement can trace money/people used for those purposes, they could likewide apply the techniques to 'pay-to-say' podcasters.

But those shell companies come and go FAST so could in theory be set up for a single transfer and law enforcement has budgets just like everyone else. The amounts involved are tiny when conpared to the big coke & H dealers so how much are people willing to pay to catch them all?

It's not hard to see what podcasters are able to become popular. Of course, nobody knows how many of those subscribers are real but it doesn't matter. If someone has X subscribers, they will end up being chosen by the algorithm. So amplification could be addressed by platforms REALLY checking the E-mail addresses not once but repeatedly. But it matters not if you tend to agree or disagree with a podcaster - never forget that it's almost always about the money. They don't care who you are or what they say, as long as it gets views. So be just as critical when you see a podcast whose views more reflect your own. Because those people are also in it for the money, they just cater to a different demographic.

I avoid this by simply understand what Mashall McLuhan made clear as early as 1953, to whit 'If a product or service is free - YOU are the product' so I don't watch many. Only those who make it clear that for them it's a career. Someone offering merch and sticks to a single topic such as history, it's not going to appeal to someone based on anything but their interest in history.

Good luck with your culture war.
