52 years old and realize I have severe ADD. 20+ yrs chronic back pain. [SNIP] Taking 50 mg. Vyvanse 40 mg. Viibrid and 4 percocet 5 mg. a day. Vyvanse not working. Wondering if Percocet is reason.

Devastated about ADD. Damage to finances, kids with ADD. Relationships tenuous or ruined. I am as low as it gets and despite pleas after two weeks am forced to go 60 days on Vyvanse that is not helping. Afternoon and evening I am crying, angry, anxious. Should I stop taking?

We could lose our house if I dont get focused...

Welcome to Bluelight :)

I understand the seriousness of your problems, but we can't help you find a doctor. It's against the rules.

Moving this to Mental Health

I misunderstood the forums. I saw posts about ADD meds and want to know how people find a good fit doctor. Every psych professional lists ADD but how do you find one who really understands the syndrome and medications? I read more posts and it seems like this is about teaching people how to use drugs. My bad.

^Searching for answers that are not there often is the result of asking the wrong questions. We live in a culture that promises a drug for every unpleasantness, every ache and pain of body or mind, every traumatic occurrence--in other words if life is not completely happy, fulfilling and easy at all times, there must certainly be a magic bullet cure for that!

We have right now in this country (the U.S.) the most alarming rate of addiction to opiates not to mention the alarming rate of overdose deaths (surpassing for the first time in years automobile accidents). We have children drugged with "medicinal" fixes as early as three years old. It is the norm to be depressed and to be on a drug for that, to be unfocused or to lack motivation and to be on a drug for that. We imprison more people than the rest of the developed world for drug related "crimes" when the drugs have been artificially separated off into the illegal category. It may seem a strange point of view on a site for recreational drug users but I would say that our cultural dependence on drugs as an answer to everything is a real problem.

Were you officially diagnosed with adult ADD/ADHD or are you self-diagnosing? Regardless, if you see a pdoc, why not try going with Strattera instread of the Vyvanse if its not working? Has the Vyvanse done anything positive for you?

I just had to unapprove 6 posts in this thread.

Please stay on topic and don't personally attack one another. Thanks.

I have been officially diagnosed. I have known on some level that I have ADHD without hyperactivity all my life. Started reading about the disorder because my two sons are struggling in school. In life..as it goes. The more I read the more I was horrified to see that the books seemed to be written about me specifically.

I am 52 years old and never had medication help for this. You do find ways to get through life, to cope, keep jobs, keep relationships. I have hyperfocused at times and excelled in college and various jobs but at the cost of letting important things go. No balance.

First day on Vyvanse 50 was a bit over the top but I tackled several projects and nailed them. Felt like it was a miracle. But I never felt that focus after a week.

I am not set on any one medication at all. I am extremely afraid of side effects and do not like taking anything without researching. I am more motivated because my focus benefits my whole family and that is important.

In a few days I can fill 60 mg dose of Vyvanse so hoping that will help. Having experienced what it can do I am hopeful that I can get the right dose. I made an appt. with a doc who has experience with ADD and that is not until March. Just find it hard to get a doc that understands the medications risks side effects, etc.

With my 19 year old we tried all options other than meds. Did not want him on pills. After two years of dinking around we had him on Ritalin and life changed for the best. A miracle..

I'm glad to hear that your 19 year old son had a positive experience with Ritalin. I'm hoping you can find the right meds and I'm glad you are doing the necessary research before jumping in and taking anything. Good luck.

That Percocet works well with Vyvanse depends on your goal. I want full focus. If that doesn't happen then the mix is counterproductive. To Flowing - Godspeed! :)
