I've just bought a jar of Nescafé Green Blend instant coffee. On the packet it states that it's naturally rich in antioxidants and is a 'delicious blend of green and roasted coffee'. So I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this coffee is in actual fact healthier than the bog standard instant coffee alternatives because it has more antioxidants, or whether it's just a marketing ploy to get health conscious individuals to buy the coffee which is traditionally viewed in a poor light as being some unhealthy vice that people have?

Filter coffee is stronger, in that it contains more caffeine, but I also believe it contains more antioxidants and other beneficial phytochemicals present not in instant coffee but only in the filter coffee made with cofee makers. How true is this? Does it really make a difference? How would this Green Blend coffee compare to filter coffee?

Are some coffee beans better than others in terms of health benefits? Sorry if this is the most boring question on Bluelight but it's been bothering me for quite some time and I'd love to get the views and opinions of my fellow intelligent Bluelighers.

I believe its the fact that they are putting unroasted green beans in the blend. Like vegetables, I'm guessing coffee has more nutrients uncooked.

Apparently it contains more antioxidants than Green Tea and leaves you looking like a cherub after a few cups. ;) I would hope that there are more reputable companies selling this as I refuse to line the pockets of this Co and all its other guises; considering how they seem to have an incurable drive to undermine, basic ethical rights of the average human beings in developing countries.

^ Shit, I had no idea. Thanks for posting that. I really was unaware of the extent of the problem and will most definitely be boycotting their products in favor of more ethically sourced, fair trade coffee products.

I do wonder thought whether Fair Trade coffee producers are policed sufficiently to make sure they really are giving their workers a fair price and aren't abusing the system.

No worries, just said i'd put that out there in case you didn't know. ;)
Heres a list of Nestle Products/Brands.
... they are not the only company guilty of unethical practices of course.

Also relating to this , you may be interested in this very poignant Documentary:The Dark Side of Chocolate

Yeah, it's very hard to be certain that there isnt corruption within the Fair Trade system also but I guess all we can do is our little bit with what we know for now.:)
