So I'm sitting here reading over threads about people explainning and warning me about how heroin will ruin me. And I totally agree .. But my compulsive thoughts are running me.. What are some ideas I can do instead of drugs.. Besides working out. I already did that today:-(

sometimes this place triggers me...especially if i go wandering around Bluelight clicking away...Somedays this forum gets to me and feel like getting on and scoring, so i go to the shrine then...My dear mum is in there and she died of a cocaine+heroin OD..
You know its true what they say...Heroin will ruins all of us...

When i was 14 i got this poem and now i know its true....

Honey, before you start foolin' with me,
Let me tell you how it will be.
I shall seduce you and make you my slave,
Those stronger than you have gone to their graves.
You think you could never become a disgrace,
By ending up addicted to poppyseed waste.
So you start inhalin' one afternoon,
But into your veins I'll go very soon.
And once I have entered into your veins,
The craving for me will drive you insane.
You'll beg, you'll steal for narcotic charm,
Only content when I'm in your arm.
You'll sell your own body just for a buck,
And turn into something vile and corrupt.
And one day you'll realize the monster you've grown,
And solemnly swear to leave me alone.
If you think you can master this mystical knack,
Sweetie...try getting me offof your back.
You'll vomit, you'll cramp, you'll tie in a knot,
Jangling, your nerves will scream for a shot.
The hot chills, the cold sweats, the withdrawl pains,
Can only be stopped by those little white grains.
There's no other way, and no need to look,
Deep down inside... you know you are hooked.
I warn you ahead, so if you should start,
It says in the contract,"Till Death Do Us Part!"

Heroin will ruin you mate...

Yes, as Miss Kirsty said, sometimes Bluelight itself can be quit triggering. Mentality, if you're finding that reading threads about heroin is actually making you want to try it, maybe log off this site for a little while until you're no longer craving it.

Other than that, you should try and do something that distracts yourself from your thoughts. You've tried working out, which is great. Perhaps call a friend and arrange to meet up for a coffee or to see a movie or something like that. Get out of the house, go and socialise. Sometimes we have to be very proactive about distracting ourselves when it comes to overcoming cravings.

Be strong <3

Menta, I too found a lot of the threads triggering at first. It was difficult for me to even read threads about people being put on suboxone and methadone maintenance as I felt that they were still enjoy opiates to some extent and it made me jealous.

With time that will subdue and you should be able to handle reading about it better. I am still extremely sensitive to seeing or hearing about people I know personally using.

I tried finding habits I could "addict" myself to that were healthy. Like gardening (which required daily effort) I also use bluelight in TDS as a means of occupying a lot of time. It took a while to be able to handle threads that included opiates but perhaps if you enjoy going online you will find social threads are a good way to pass some time. There is no drug talk in the social sections in TDS. I try to do things around the house like cleaning also to keep busy. TDS has actually helped keep my mind in the right spot with my recovery. I can talk about days I am having troubles. I can read about people in multiple stages of recovery and also get to read about people at wits end in their most helpless stage of abuse which helps remind me of how far I have come.

A job will definitely take up a lot of time to help keep your mind off opiates as well.

Well i have already IVD heroin quite a few times .. I'm not physically addicted but I still crave it as I'm tryan to stay away.. I wish I saw that poem earlier.. And I have a job..lol

I wish i had read that poem earlier to wow thay was awesome

I hope you are able to stay away from it. I can tell you the best thing to do. Start answering as many questions on bluelight a day :) it will occupy your time and you will be helping in harm reductions and peoples feelings.

Stay strong <3

I lost that...And guess what?...I wasnt even buying my drugs at the start.....i was a doctor shopper so my drugs cost me <can't mention prices hun - n3o> the price of a script per box...But i got sick and started losing customers, till one day i woke up and had none left!! You will lose everything if you invite this demon into your soul....

My life was good B.D (before drugs)

That has got to be the heaviest poem i have ever actually read.
Read over that OP.
You're still able to make things right.
you need to force your mind off that shit and focus it on more positive things.
use bluelight in more positive ways. try helping other other people and test your strength. you can beat it NOW, man.
if bL is too much of a trigger than you may need to sacrifice the forum for a while in order to make things right.
but you can gain strength and hope here <3
please take care.
i like to draw and paint to get my mind of things. it really stops me from thinking about anything.
you need to find something you enjoy.
gardening? as already suggested, is a great way to fulfill your time.
go on bushwalks, start reading a book?
go and get a 6 month gym membership.
get into a healthy new routine. you don't want to continue messing around with Heroin :(
you should check out the link Miss Kirsty put up.

i also found this thread over in Second Opinion.. Have a look through it, i hope it can contribute in one way or another to your wellbeing <3

Hobbies

Get lost in a good book

Spend the money you would have spent on H on something else, like going out to a movie and then having a nice meal.

Maybe go hiking or go for a long walk.

Try writing out what you're going through in a notebook. Might be interesting to reread after a few months where your use may have increased or decreased.

Find a new hobby

Watch The Wire because it's the best show ever created or watch Arrested Development because it's such a rich comedy, so many layers

There are so many great ideas in here. I find writing helps me get through just about anything.

Exercising that is in addition to "working out" is great because it gets you outdoors--like gardening, hiking, riding your bike to the store instead of driving, hula hooping,whatever...as long as it is outside.

Helping other people has got to be the best recommendation in here! There are so many ways to do that, from helping other people out here in TDS, to volunteering to help a neighbor or friend do something that they have a hard time tackling alone. Doing things to help other people ultimately helps you so much more; it takes your focus off yourself and your problems and makes someone else feel good and thus makes you feel good---all around win.

And now you are going to laugh (and I have no idea if you are male or female) but I highly recommend knitting! It is relaxing and therapeutic and you can get lost in it.It takes just enough focus to keep you occupied(great for cravings) but not enough so that you can't talk to a friend or watch something or just space out and daydream. Before you scoff and tell me you are a guy, take a look at the knitting thread in SO. There are male and female knitters and at least one uses it to help with cravings.:)<3

Damn that poem was pretty deep. I really liked it. And i had no idea of a blue light shrine... thats sad so many have passed away :| addiction isnt a joke. It will get you sooner or later. Just a matter of time. "Jails, Institutions, and Death." :p DO something that interests you. I do hobbies, school, hw, NA meetings, and hang out with recovering addicts every day. 69 days today. Maybe read my thread on the dark side? Some people says it helps them. Who knows. hah. But yeah, i totally understand how this forum can be triggering. Dont read into all the glory stories and how they glorify there drug use cause its all fun and games. Cause its not. You gotta hear about those war stories to know that you dont want that in your life and its definitely not a fun road to take... ill tell you that for sure.

@Menta: Heroin is absurdly overrated. The downsides to it far outweigh the good (and short lasting at that). The longer and more you use it, the worse and worse this ratio becomes.

An amazing girl in the rehab I went to read me this poem and we cried. It's completely true. There is no "Hero" in "heroin". I was a soldier for heroin in the not so distant past, and she left me stranded in the battlefield so many times. All she will do is comfort you while you slowly kill yourself and those around you. Meeting makers make it. Hit a meeting and spill your heart out, and I promise you will feel better by the time you leave. Lots of love toward you my friend.

i have been trying to fill in my days whilst on holidays without using opiates and alcohol, i have not been particulary successful

the days i have been successful are the days i do things that are time consuming, that i find pleasurable and would not be able to do as well on opiates

reading is the perfect one for me, i love to read and get annoyed when i am reading a good book and it takes me an hour to get through one page because i keep nodding off, so when i am not on opiates i read like a fiend and feel happy that i am absorbed and getting through the book

The other thing i have been doing is trying to become good at cooking things from scratch, the whole proocess is good for me, sourcing the fresh ingredients, taking the time to prepare and cook it, i try and cook things that take a while, slow cooking meats etc but require attention every half hour or so, it just gives me a reason not to be on the nod, because 1 i don't wanna fuck up my meal and 2 i dont wanna burn the house down or something

these are two things that have worked for me, but i still fail on certain days, like today for instance

you may hate reading and cooking, i was not suggesting you do those activities but something that you enjoy that you are incapable of doing if your on the nod
