Just wondering if im possibly having a bad reaction to this compound? After taking it twice (150mg yest. then 250mg today), I have noticed that both times my skin feels a wierd in certain places...almost a sunburnt type feeling, especially on my lips.

Taking in conjuction with:
ALCAR
ALA
Vit C

What are your guys opinions of this supplement?

Im currently taking it in the lead up to winter as an immune booster and just really to try it out..ive heard its good to clean out heavy metals from the blood and to repair lung tissue. Its also a potent anti-oxidant..but you are meant to take 3x the amount of vit c with your dose to prevent it being oxidized..

I've taken up to 20 grams a day of this and never noted any side effects.

It's very effective at reducing alcohol damage/hangovers. You mention including 3x Vitamin C, which seems to be recommended in almost every discussion of NAC. But does anyone know where this information came from? A citation perhaps? I've never been able to find a source for it.

Reducing hangovers? I like the sound of that! Would you take it before drinking to achieve this? or when experiencing a hangover? and what would the dose be? Ive started at 150mg and am up to 350mg so far.
Ive ruled out any bad reaction - i think it was just coincidental.

For hangovers: dose with every drink or so. The big thing for me is actually getting enough sleep though -- alcohol causes me to wake up after 3 hours of sleep and feel like shit the next day because of that no matter what I do.

I take 1200mg a day. It boosts gluthione in the liver, I believe, and is a potent antioxidant for the liver as well. It's a great amino acid to get in the habit of taking.

It is also used for tylenol overdose.

Yeah, it's probably the most effective compound out there for hangover reduction. I would recommend a regimen of about 100mg/drink, ideally starting with about 300mg before drinking (and 100mg after each drink after the third). But, assuming you can't supplement so frequently during a night, make sure to at least get an appropriate dose in _before_ going to sleep. Also, make sure to take with vitamin C (~ 3x the dose of NAC seems to be recommended often...) and vitamin B1 (thiamine). You'll notice a huge difference in the morning!

I find it great for increasing lung immunity. It is also something you can take to increase l-glutathione which is associated with many benefits. I have not had bad effects but anytime anything makes you feel unwell it is good to discontinue or reduce dose.

I think there are different brands of hang-over but a major factor for many is dehydration. Alcohol lowers anti-diuretic hormone the whole time alcohol is increasing in your system which makes staying hydrated near impossible. If you can stop drinking for a half hour or more before sleeping while drinking a lot of non-alcoholic fluids it will head off some hang-over suffering.

Nuke mentioned getting adequate quality sleep is a big thing. I haven't found a good solution for the waking three hours later unable to sleep thing. Sedatives are dangerous with alcohol. I'm contemplating melatonin in such situations but in recent years I have seldom had the short sleep then wide awake effect from alcohol.

N-Acetyl-Cysteine is the first drug to take when you have an APAP (Acetaminophen) overdose, wich can be fatal (or if treated in time you need a liver transplant). Watch out for taking too much APAP! The ER will give you N-Acetyl-Cysteine in this case.

I heard about a study which suggested not taking high doses for extended periods of time as it was discovered that (albeit, in rodents) this caused the body to stop naturally producing l-glutathione.
Still I think Ill continue to take this every couple of days...
