Mylan (generic) Xanax vs Upjohn Xanax difference for once and for all??

I get a certain number of 2mg IR Alprazolam per week from my psychiatrist.... I have had him write me prescriptions for both generic and non-generic versions of the 2mg.

So right now I have a mixture of the round 2MG Mylan generic "pies" and the more notorious name brand 2mg 'bars' that say XANAX on them and are made by Pharmacia/Upjohn.

Now I know there is a lot of debate on this.... other than the bars looking cooler and having that name-brand appeal that humans tend to be willing to pay extra for (such as clothing, OTC drugs, cars etc), my doctor swears that there is absolutely no difference in them, since they contain the exact same amount of Alprazolam, and that the difference in inactive ingredients/fillers do not have any effect upon me.

Now, he could care less which one I am getting, since it's my parents paying. It's not a huge deal, but they obviously prefer paying $5 for the generic co-pay, versus $40 for the name brand bars.

My tolerance is really really high.... not something I am proud of and I definitely need to begin very carefully tapering off with my doc's supervision in not much longer than a month or so.... but for the time being, it may just be a placebo effect, but I swear I feel that I can feel the bars being more potent and quicker acting.

Like I just took two 2mg generics.... (normally only take them when I really need em but I want to test this) which is 4mg of Xanax - enough to knock any of my friends without a tolerance to the floor... And it's barely had any effect on me. Not that I was feeling especially anxious at the moment, I actually do not feel 'mad chill' or 'relaxed' as you would think 4mg would do to you. I am just as mildly anxious about my upcoming school deadlines and stressed as before taking them.

And the other day, I took a single 2mg bar and felt it much more pronounced from what I can remember. Again, it might of just been the placebo effect, but I also felt that the bars were also actually more effective on removing anxiety all together, instead of just kind of putting you in a retarded, zoned out, tired haze...

I know there must be people here to weigh in on this for once and for all? As much as I like my doctor, they are definitely not always right about shit.

Y'know that lesser effect (whether placebo or real) could be quite useful when it comes to tapering - it will help you get used to feeling mild anxiety and discomfort without it overwhelming you.

Ya off topic: I am a bit worried about my Xanax use.... even though I actually often take as much as 1/2 the amount actually prescribed per day. And my psychiatrist is no idiot.... he knows the potential dangers of taking as much Xanax as I have been and also consequentially knows who my father is not that that matters - but my point is that I have faith that he won't let anything bad happen to me with it, and he knows he would get fucked quick for malpractice if he did...

But yeah Benzos are a bitch. I sort of regret starting Xanax in the first place, even though Kpins seemed to make me way more 'loopy' and out of it.

I have never tried Valium.

I found Xanax a lifesaver when I had major panic disorder but it was prescribed to be taken as required and because it kicks in so quickly I never felt that need to take it to prevent feeling anxious.

It can sure be a bitch though when people have been taking it in such a way that they don't feel any emotional discomfort at all for extended periods of time - it seems to drop their distress tolerance to almost zero and makes even mild emotional discomfort seem unbearable.

It's even worse if they haven't learned any stress management, relaxation or other techniques to help them cope with the normal frustrations, anxieties and disappointments of everyday life because they have nothing to fall back on when the meds are gone. The best doctors seem to regard anxiety as something to be managed by multiple means rather than something to be eliminated entirely and meds as something to give you some breathing space while you learn other ways to manage stress.

ive definitely noticed differences in strength with different generics of bars. ive had 4 different kinds and can pick which one i prefer and then say which one is weaker than others. but as they say, 2mg's=2mg's! so yea...

agreed very much man.... this is what I have been trying to say on so many occasions and they (psychiatrist and parents) just don't fully get it.

I really believe that I will need less and less of all these fucking pills as soon as I get my life back - which means getting a new car (got mine fucked at college), which enables me to do activities like ski..... throwing on some beats, with your friends at the top of the mountain, maybe after a sip or two of whiskey or nothing at all, just hitting the biggest jumps spinning through the air 30 feet above the ground, looking like a straight up gangsta.... and traveling to VIP events, getting back to full time classes etc. they don't get that this type of thing is more theraputic than any pill they are giving me

but no its always "no first you have to get better than you can resume your life"

if anyone feels me... the meaning of having an MD can vary so much...

Imo, there is a difference in brand name & generics & the people that say its placebo , its their opinion & means nothing to me because I know when something feels better. Now there are some generic brand names that are better than the original brand. For instance, the Watson 10/325 percocets are stronger & better than the name brand imo.

although most may disagree...imo/ime valium is superior.

i dont get such bad memory loss as i do with xanax and the anxiety relief seems to last ages with valium compared to both xanax and clonazepam.

mylan xanax is much weaker i dont care what anyone says go with the brand name or greenstone

everyone enough with the placebo shit. I take teva resotrils....15mgs and i could take 4 and it would equal 1 brand name 30mg.....roche vals and klons are best. ativan PUREPACS with the ribbon are the best ativan ummmmmm blah
