Im in my mid 50s.
Started using drugs at the age of 12.
First drug was pot and Mandrax tablets.
Then heroine. Then Morphine,Both IV.
Went in for treatment in 84. Have been a Mat patient since then. Had one relapse in 89 when I could not get my Bupe. It was only for 4 days.
Since then I have been on Bupe. Some years were good. Some bad based on how the Govt changed the rules. In good years you could buy as much as you wanted. In bad years access was limited.
For the past 30 years I have been on 3x 2 mg.
What I have learned in all these years. Where I have had friends die, OD, relapse, of the 60 user friends only 2 of us have made it to our 50s.
I see my bupe medication as something I have to live with as long as Im alive. I have tried tapering. When I taper I just land up lying in bed staring at the ceiling. For 18 hours straight. Day in and day out for weeks When I get my medication Im a rock star a high performing individual.
Recently moved to a new city. Meet a new doctor. He gave me a scrip for Bupe but when I went to collect it I was given Bupe + Naloxone. I was told its the same thing. But it was not.
I started to experience things I have never before.
Anxiety attacks, claustrophobia attacks, restless leg syndrome.
Grinding of teeth in sleep to the point where I broke 3 teeth.
So went back to the Dr. He agreed to put me on just Bupe. Right away all my problems went away.
So I dont buy this BS that Bupe = Bupe + Naloxone. Its not from any angle.
I do agree that being on Bupe for 30+ years has impacted my testosterone levels so I take tablets to bring my levels up.
For restless leg I have found that taking Iron supplements was a big help.
I have joined this site to share my nth journey on trying to taper.
And to share what happens to my mind when tapering.
There is a history of mental health issues in my family. And I am convinced that Bupe is the ultimate treatment for unresponsive depression.
Still have a few boxes of Bupe + Naloxone and ideally Id like to figure out how to separate the Nax from the Bupe.
But using those tablets is out of the question. Id prefer to experience withdrawals vs taking this combination and developing a whole lot of mental health problems I never had before.
In withdrawal I just sit in one place and stare into space. No panic attacks, no claustrophobia attacks.
When medicated I feel like super man. Work gets done. Productivity goes up.
Ive offered my body to science after I die so they can study what the long term impact of using Bupe is.
I don't drink, I don't smoke Pot unless its a rare gathering and I have one toke. Like once a year.
My only other addiction is tobacco.
In my new city. It seems I am the only guy who is on Bupe. Everybody else is on Bupe + Nax. I don't understand this.
Relapse rates are huge for guys on bupe + nax. But people given just Bupe very rarely relapse.
Ive been a productive contributing hard working member of society thanks to Bupe.
Last question I may have to goto the UK for 2 Months.
If I carry my prescription and medicine will I have any problems at customs.
Should I loose my meds in customs. What is the quickest way to see a dr and get the meds in London. I will be on a tourist visa. For a few months.
What can I expect to pay for the Dr and the meds ?. So I can budget.
