Sounds like a horrible situation. It does sound like she needs this though - I can understand how bitter you feel if you were trying to help your gf and the parents have painted you as the bad one and how worried/scared you must be about her, but it sounds like her current situation wasn't helping her and she needs this. Am sure you know that missing therapy appointments and getting wrecked probably wasn't for the best, but I don't know the ins and outs and maybe she needed some respite from everything. Either way, am sorry you are in this position, it must be really difficult..
I'm from the UK so it might be different, but over here people are admitted to psych wards either voluntarily (informally) or under section (detained under section 2 or 3 of the mental health act). If they are admitted under section they will have been placed under a 28 day assessment section or a 6 month treatment section. They don't have to remain under section for the whole duration, they can be discharged at any point if they are better - this is just the duration they last before they need to be renewed. Patients can appeal at any time if they are sectioned and will get an independent tribunal.
Patients are only sectioned if a) they won't stay voluntarily, b) they have a psych disorder (or a likely psych disorder if they are under the assessment section) and c) they pose a serious risk to the health or safety of themselves or others. So hopefully your gf will only be kept there if she needs to be there to prevent her from commiting suicide. Psych wards are safe places (although obviously not much fun) and they will know how to manage her medications. It might take time, but if it helps your gf then it's worth it
I hope she gets better and things work out for you both..
