My first time in a sensory deprivation tank!

I found a floating place really close to where I live, I've been thinking about trying it out (I've always wanted to). Just been putting it off for some reason, and I guess worried about my state of mind going in.

i love sensory dep tanks. only downside, imo, is how godawful expensive it is. i would give my left nut to have my own tank, its very OBE ish to me and is so calming and serene.

i wish i had the money to fully soundproof my bedroom as well

I don't want to watch your link (feels like bait and switch) but would love to read a trip report.

Part of me think it is kinda just bullshit, a placebo, or whatever. I mean I'm sure if I got a snuggie and locked myself in the closet with the lights off, it would be basically the same thing.

I kinda would like to try it, buts so I don't know how clean the guy before me was before he went in, might have dingle berries stuck to his ass falling off in the tank, and someone had to try jerking off in there, if not that, I know someone had to piss in there, and my OCD will not let me go through with it lol.

You don't know all about it if you've never tried it.

It's like saying a doctor can't have significant knowledge on the subject matter of disease, because they themselves haven't experienced it.

Sure, I don't have the first had experience, but I know all about it....so yeah.

I'd rather talk to somebody who did it though. 'Well I didn't have the chance to try sex yet but I've read all about it!'.

I'm not sure what you mean by placebo; yes, your mind creates the experience, if that is what you mean, but that is precisely the point. Sitting in a dark closet is not at all the same--it is the floating aspect that makes it different. Sitting you become aware of all the points where your body is in contact with the floor. walls etc whereas floating takes away any sensations. For me it was a hallucinogenic experience--less about thoughts than visuals. Like Mysterie said, I'm only sorry they have to cost so much.

I mean, come on, you can not tell me you really took the snuggie in a closet thing literally?

I was joking....

I mean I feel like this sugar pill was passed on with the idea that it is something beyond belief and I mean I don't deny the experience of those who found it life changing, but the mechanics at hand, I'm just not sure about. Like homeopathic medicine but the hippie tanning bed version.

It just seems like acupuncture, just pseudoscience.

Even though I think it is bullshit to some degree, I would like to try it, I mean people swear by acupuncture too, that is complete bullshit, but if it works for you, who am I to judge.

I think you're both correct. You can know all about something without trying it, but you can't know how it feels.
If those machines were available here in Lebanon, I would definitely want to give it a try

There's a chasm of difference between "knowing" as an intellectual construct and "knowing" as an experience. An ancient Taoist quote goes, "True knowledge is action."

I'll go with that.

They have one out here now, $50 for one session. They say
The water in each tank is much cleaner than swimming pools or hot tubs. This is because each tank contains a high concentration of Epsom Salts which creates a sterile environment in which no living microorganism can survive. All tanks are also filtered after each float as well as during each float. Clients are also required to thoroughly wash before each session.
but then go on to recommend that anyone with an infectious disease or with wounds should not partake.

Obviously, a standard precautionary warning, I can respect that, but then I feel it contradicts the high level of sanitation and being fool proof of spreading diseases and what not.

That's like the biggest thing, I'm worried about sanitation, they say they require thorough showering beforehand, not like they can really control that aspect quite well, then I worry about potential blood or fecal matter or what not, coming off the body of someone soaking in the tank, and the possibility of the spread of disease, it just doesn't sound fool proof.
