music: which artists/bands from the 90's had the biggest impact on you and your life

Nice one SHM, you're a true northern indie/ mod it appears.

@ inflorecescence

Love, love love the pixies. Such an influence for me. Saw them play open arena 3000 people down in bend Oregan USA about ten year ago. Didn't go for it much as it happened, afterall they didn't call it their "sell out" tour for nothing. Frank Black was already deep into his solo stuff eg "teenager of the year etc" so it was more of a cabaret act IMO. But early pixies records are my bread and butter. That scream on bone machine still sends chills down my spine every time i here it. Also, there more polished effort "doolittle" recorded more or less mid way in their career is one of my all time fave albums bar none.

:D Swarm. The Pixies never fail to fill me with joyous abandon. I love driving to the Trompe de Monde album...

SHM-I don't know how I forgot Rebel MC. I played that album untill it snapped ON TAPE! Then over last few years have been trying to purchase it periodically for less than the £60ish!!! mark on Amazon etc...had another peek before Christmas and hey presto...been on in the car solidly since tiddley wayyyyyyyyyyyy ohhhhhhhh. Have sent you a pm x

I'm a big Fall fan Swarm, but right back from their 70's. 80's didn't really see a lot of their best stuff (apart from very early 80's) but they came good again in the 90's (Ketamine song).

Yeah, Mark E Smith is a bit of a hero.

Certainly not for the first time. A drunk is a drunk after all. And his ex-wife used to have massive fights with him. I wonder if he still does truckloads of amphetamine. I hope so.

Libertines
The Smiths
The Clash
Prodigy
Radiohead
Placebo
Black Grape
Happy Mondays
Nirvana

And many DJs from the Old Skool/Jungle/Drum and Bass scene...

Just realised this was a 90's thread so ignore the none 90's but they all have played a part in a big way...!

And while im ignoring the thread title amd editing....

David Bowie
Lou Reed

:)

Oh fuck the title thread, 90, early naughties (I hate that word), late eightlies

Am actaully quite a fan of early libertines stuff myself mate, though I thought the whole Babyshambles stuff was pure anadulterated pants.

An incorrigable piss head of the highest order. My bro went to see him a couple of years back and along with only having the capacity to do one out of every two numbers, he kept switching with some young thug called tommy shooter or something, he also had slight difficulty negotiating between the mic stand hand holder and the mic itself. A true legend of the highest order.

90's was my favorite decade for music:

Nirvana
Smashing Pumpkins
Radiohead
Faith No More
Mr Bungle
Placebo
Dr Dre
Nas
Wu- Tang
Mobb Deep
Jay-Z
Notorious B.I.G
Rage Against The Machine
Weezer
Sunny Day Real Estate
Green Day
NOFX

and a whole load of jungle, dnb, and trance stuff. Excellent decade for music.

Random observation But EADD'ers seem to all have quite a varied taste in music, with most people enjoying some form of 'alternative' genre music. There dosen't seem to be anyone on here who just listens to mainstream chart stuff.

Underground Hardcore changed my life dramatically. I could post a couple of memorable tracks but that woulnt even come close to reprsenting the experiances. In my view this music and the scene around it ( im not talking about clubbing or legal stuff) changed huge numbers of people . That music it that enviroment will never be forgotten.

I could mention bands and stuff i liked at the time but nothing compared and i doubt it ever will

What sort of era are we talking Allein. I love the early stuff like Black Flag etc but I'm a huge crossover fiend myself, SOD, Municipal Waste etc..

Agreed, though there are a few too many guitar hero / steve vai / joe satriani typres that made themselves known in My Drug Buddy's "Who plays the guitar and how good are you thread".

Well glad to see the pumpkins get a menton aswell as Weezer and Nofx. Me and my drummer were blasting out Pump up the Valium and The Blue Album back to back at about 7 in the morning, up from night before naturally, just last week.

One for Hexagram, and me.. naturally

Also pleased to see NOFX mentioned, was just listening to The Decline the other day. If I was to talk about artists that had the biggest impact on my life actually during the 90s, it'd be stuff like NOFX, Rancid, Pennywise, Greenday, Offspring, Less Than Jake etc. The love of cheesy 90s happy hardcore came a bit later ;)

My man!
