Why is every critic so in love with anything Tarantino makes?
personally, i think everyone loves tarantino's work because a) he's a
master of dialogue (most people will rightly tell you that this is his forte) and b) he has an amazing penchant for style.
of course, tarantino isn't the most original director, but i think this is more an indication of the role of post-modernity within the cinema today, than anything else. as most people know, tarantino spent his years before directing working at a video store, constantly watching films and building an ardent admiration for the craft.
it follows, then, that much of his work is the re-interpretation of his favourite films, and that much of what we're seeing has been thematically (and stylistically) explored before. that said, tarantino doesn't out-and-out copy; rather, he takes bits and pieces from all over the place, and filters it through his own personal film-making talent, coming out with some of the smartest and most enjoyable films around.
i
guess i can see why some people aren't a fan of his, but i would argue against them until my dying day. i've seen a shitload of films too, and though i consider myself a reasonably intelligent guy, that doesn't necessarily translate into the ability to make brilliant films on par with qt's - the guy might constantly reference his knowledge base of cinema, but he's still awesomely talented.
