I am looking for some accurate info. I take Tramadol for chronic pain and Klonopin for anxiety. I also enjoy Oxy's if I can get them. I don't think I have a super high tolerance but have taken narcotics frequently going back a few years. A friend gave me some Morphine Sulfate 60mg SR. I am interested in trying them because I ran out of my Trams early and don't want to have WD's. My question is if I cut the pills into quarters does that make them 15mg IR or no? I'm really confused about how that works and reading stuff online scares me because it talks about overdose and death from crushing or cutting. Please help me understand. Thanks! <3

Most of the morphine sulfate pills these days gel up in water and won?t become an instant release pill without a lot of tampering. A simple test for this is to try dissolving a piece in water to see if it gels up or dissolves.

Either way if you are just eating them and already have an opiate tolerance then you should be fine splitting the pills, the strength of oral morphine is somewhere inbetween hydrocodone and oxycodone. Just be aware that morphine is more sedating then tramadol so don?t take more then your regular dose of klonopin with them.

What?s your daily dose of tramadol and/ or oxy?

Thank you so much Falsifiedhypothesi! I take about 200mgs total daily of Tramadol and when I can find oxy I don't take more than 20 to 30mgs with the Trams, sometimes it's just the Trams alone. I wasn't aware that Morphine was more sedating than the Trams. Yuck. I def don't want that. So Morphine is actually weaker than Oxy?

The comparative strength of morphine can vary widely depending on how you take it. Intravenous morphine can be very powerful since the bioavailability is at 100% and would be stronger then oral oxycodone. Morphine when taken by mouth will not get into the bloodstream as efficiently and thus only has a bioavailability of ~20-35% so it will appear to be weaker then oxycodone if taken orally.

If you are just using the morphine to get past withdrawals you shouldn?t have an issue with excessive sedation, just use the minimal amount you need to make it to your next tramadol or oxy dose.

Also i?m sure you know that benzodiazepines and opiates will cause increased CNS depression so if you are intending to abuse any of these meds keep that in mind. Higher doses of both of these drugs may cause dangerous sedation but as long as you stick to doses that you are tolerant to you should be fine.

That is so interesting about the Morphine! I didn't realize it was so weak orally. I take a very small dose of Klonopin (.5 twice a day ) and in three years have never had to increase it. I try to be responsible with my pain meds and am seeing an actual Pain Specialist in two weeks. My friend had the Morphine and offered it since I can't get my Trams again until Wednesday. I just want to use it until I get my script. I have moderate sleep apnea so I'm always mindful of not becoming too sedated. Luckily ( knock on wood ) I have had no trouble with taking the Klons and Trams and Oxy but again I don't take huge amounts. The only time I had an issue was when I had a severe pain episode and went to the ER and was given IV Dilaudid and IV Phenergan. Woah. My mom was with me and I was on the monitors due to high BP and my oxygen dipped to 80!! That was scary. Thank you so much for your help. I will start with a quarter pill tomorrow and see how it affects me. :)
