MO, Salem - 8.13-15.2010 - UnderGround Sound 6 UGS6 - Camp Zoe

Went to EDC and my tickets cost me less than they are gonna cost me if we get to drive for UGS6.... Crappy...the only thing that will keep us away is that the 2 of us will have to pay 240 @ the door casue our work schedules can't be known until this Thurs. :( oh well.... if we don't see ya it's cause I just can't pay 240 for 2 people to camp in the heat with DJ's that have been at almost every party this season...kinda hard when you have seen them a handful of times already....

That said, if anyone bought presales and can't go lemme know cause I would love to have your tickets!!!

msg me on here or email me [email protected]

Will be there in full force with the Cali UGS Crew!
We will be spinning Liquid Jungle, Minimal Techno, and 100% self-produced Psytrance/Techno See: Here,
Beach Stage, Friday Night 6-8 pm. If you see a guy with a Totoro hat that's me (pic here from ugs5).

Seeya there!

i had a great time. we arrived friday morning around 4am after driving through the night. we set up camp and got a nap in before the sun really came out. it was incredibly hot but thankfully there is a COLD COLD COLD clear stream running through the campground. the grounds were beautiful and there was a ton of space. friday night enojyed seeing cyberoptix, ritm, boombox and a few others. sat, more swimming and staying cool. sat night i saw eoto, heyoka, and lynx and janover, all for the first time and all of those performances were excellent. evol intent disappointed along with excision, but i have come to not expect much from big time dubstep shows. usually just banger after banger. not that the tracks are all bad, but hearing all hype and no build up or flow of a set is a let down. computer club and angel alanis never ended up playing. i had a great time, and camp zoe was certainly everything my friends hyped it up to be, and one of the best camgrounds i've visited. the 7 hour missouri-cop infested drive was terrible though. so in all....if the line up is AMAZING next year, ill go. if its not, i probably wont.

I'm pretty much on the same wavelength as my caravan-mate posted above ^^

I understand Zoe costs more money, which probably added to the weak lineup, not to mention many of the absent DJs had personal issues they had to attend to (jackal & hyde was a solo act because the other had a family emergency, I was told angel alanis also had an emergency). There were only 2 out of 3 EI members (which is pretty damn lame), Excision was late, causing a drastic lineup change that really screwed everything up. I'm convinced Computer Club would have played (Gigantor was in attendance) had the slots not been so messed up.

Overall I had a really good time, but I'm afraid to say I may not be back next year. the only economical way to go again would be to buy presales before the lineup is announced, but right now I have absolutely no faith in catalytic souls' ability to put together a solid lineup that is worth 16 hours of driving and cop hasslage for. This was not a bad show by any means, but moving the show to zoe may be the beginning of the end for this event. This isn't to say I miss the cave, but I know many indianapolis folk who would have gone had it not been so damn far away.

Loved the event, loved the venue, and I'm glad I got to check out what CS put together at a venue I hadn't seen before, especially one as beautiful as Zoe, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be back next year because if I wait for a lineup for 2011, I'll either pay too much for some no-shows, or I'll pass in favor of something closer, cheap, and with a better lineup like DEMF (I still can't believe I missed DJ Hype and Sinistarr for 2/3 of Evol intent).

Also, fuck the asshole profiling cops that swarm all over the twisty, confusing road system near Salem. They take advantage of the fact that no one knows where they are (pulling people over for having brights on, or camping out in front of a hidden stop sign). I'm lucky I don't look like a raver or my car would have most likely been searched.

edit: I forgot to mention, I know dubstep is the new thing but DAMN, it felt like everywhere I went there was some dubstep playing. I was truly shocked that there was little to no house/techno anywhere (I was really looking forward to angel alanis). I feel like UGS4 had an overabundance of house/techno so maybe I wouldn't feel so salty if there had been a good variety, although I have to say the live sets I heard (Heyoka, Lynx & Janover, Boombox) were top-notch and all 3 should have played the main stage.

A lot of my Memphis friends felt the same way (The ones who aren't dubstep people anyway).

They said you could actually tell when a dubstep act finished by the swarm of people leaving the area upon something else beginning.

This, coupled with some Feelgood sound issues (?), left them feeling fairly frustrated as well.

funny how dubstep gets all the hype 5-6 yrs later after it was at its best...goes to show you how educated the scene is to the "music". raves are about drugs and social cliches.

i'm wondering if it will take 5 years for everybody who gives a rat's ass about the music to figure out that nugget of truth.
