Hi everyone, I'm new here so I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct forum.

I've been an on and off meth user for years, as in on for a night and then off for 3 years (mainly because I couldn't find a consistent dealer). Recently my girlfriend has been out of town and I've met some girls who have a great dealer and are fun to hang around and get high with. It started off as 3 day binges on the weekends.

This week I'm on my sixth day of taking about a point a day (shooting up). I've been eating and sleeping and I feel fine, I'm on antidepressants and benzos etc. I know people are going to tell me this is the road to hell etc etc but when my girlfriend comes back I will definitely stop and do it once a month (we've discussed this) (we live together and i'm terribly messy and a bad liar so i wouldn't be able to hide it, not that I would want to).
I'm just wondering, is a week or two long enough to have withdrawal symptoms? And how bad will the comedown be? Like, how many days should I plan on taking off from uni haha.

I heard that the comedown from injecting is easier to cope with than from smoking.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your help.

They're is no such thing as "meth withdrawal", as amphetamines are not physically addictive.

6 days? That's normally bad, but if you've been sleeping and eating, what's the problem? The main concern is it might take a couple of days for your dopamine to recover, but a point isn't that much, so I think you should be fine.

And the idea that IV has an easier comedown than smoking is just silly.

I would bet alot of people would disagree that there is no such thing as a "meth withdrawal". There is and it can have a wide range of time. The brain is really a remarkable thing with so many different reactions going on that i dont think its accurate to say that it takes one certain amount of time for it to go back to feeling normal again.

Ive heard meth withdrawal happening up to 2 weeks and then sometimes PAWS setting in months later which can last for months. I really feeling that along with how much was used that its up to the person thats gonna decide how long it will take.

If you just sit in your spot where you used all the time thinking about meth and how you wish you had some or wondering how long it takes to get over this, etc. Its gonna be awhile. You can sit there for alot more than 6 days and still feel like shit.

But if your doing things outside and enjoying the things you did before meth, hanging out with people, going to meetings where people support you, distracting yourself from all the meth thoughts, healthy diet, exercise etc then its not gonna be long or severe at all. Your increasing the speed for the brain to rewire itself.

Its like anything else in the body. You dont get in shape by sitting on the couch. Or if you were in shape at one point and then stopped for months or years would you expect to jump right back in to the same exercise routine you were doing when you stopped. hell no

The brain needs help too and you cant expect it to do all the work. It can but it will take alot longer than if you gave it a hand.

Meth withdrawel is real. It annoys me when people down play meth as a physically addictive drug.

I agree with this. I know many people who are addicted to it. Even if it is purely a mental addiction, there is still sever side-effects of use of amphetamines.
Read this for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methamphetamine
If amphetamines and meth were not addictive and did not have negative after effects of use, I would not be having issues and would not have any need to use this site and that would just be awesome, but unfortunately, this is not the case :P :)

Having read more information now, I realize that there is potentially a difference between a 'physical' addiction and a mental addiction... is this correct?
As I realize there is potentially a difference, meth would very much seem to be a mental addiction drug, especially since it only really works in the brain and not really on the body (other then the negative side effects).
Having said that, I do not mean to say that the addiction is fake or irrelevant, but that it may differ from other drug withdrawals that affect the body also. (especially since the main reason I am here is to understand my addiction and withdrawals from this myself).

Mental addiction manifests in physical ways. You dont have to be addicted to drugs to know that stress/nervousness/anxiety creates severe physical symptoms.

While I agree that meth isn't physically addictive in the technical sense, the negative effects that are experienced after an extended period of heavy use are effectively a withdrawal in all but name, from what I've seen in friends (luckily never been there).

Anything that you abuse/use on a regular basis is going to cause changes in the body. The body can adapt to almost anything, and it does.

A case in point would be first generation anti-histamines; they clearly do not cause a "physical dependence", yet if you take 100mg of diphenhydramine, every day for months, you'll likely notice being without.

Meth is toxic and the body will never become dependent on it, but the neurological changes from long term use will inevitably cause some problems for anyone trying to quit.

Addiction and dependence are very different things, and people often forget to differentiate between the two.

Meth withdrawal is basically just the mother of all come downs. If you've been using continuously for some time you will experience some nasty shit when you stop, meth absolutely floods the brain with dopamine and if this is happening continuously the brains dopamine producing parts will shut down to a degree because they don't needto be functioning. Suddenly take away the source of the dopamine (the meth) and the brain is left devoid of dopamine whilst it readjusts. Whilst this might not be the same as a traditional physical dependance it's not going to feel nice at all.

^ yeah pretty much that. But one thing about meth withdrawal, it's like an exaggerated come-down, which will have you eating and sleeping, so that is generally easier to deal with than opioid withdrawal.

Yes, the physical symptoms are showing. yesterday i called the ambos because i thought i was having a heart attack. I had some more today and the chest pain is back. i'm going to the doctor tomorrow. has anyone experienced chest pain?

Yeah, I used to get that several times a day.
It is just normal for me at least when taking amphetamines regularly, and irregular heartbeat. It has pretty much stopped since I have not been taking it in a few weeks now.
But if it is not normal for you then definitely seek medical advice, it is not exactly something that should be happening with a healthy body after all. >.>

The general rule of thumb is that the most acute phase (the worst) of withdrawal from most drugs is about two weeks.

Hehe, the chest pain was just muscle strain from hunching over the computer for so many hours! But googling 'chest pain, left arm pain' is not a good idea.
As for the comedown, I just slept about 12 hours a night for a few nights, had a couple of grumpy and teary days but it was fine.

sucks regardless

I'm on day one and it sucks whether it's mental or physical or both... I've done Meth before but I've never crashed this hard before. I can feel a restlessness in my body... legs mostly, and and I'm pretty much being an ass to everyone I'm around.

I came here looking for... something... solace maybe. Tips... I don't know but I don't like this.

I can totally relate. A couple of benzo's might help you relax a bit? On my comedowns i get so cranky and end up fighting with my girlfriend. What physical symptoms have you been having? Maybe some codeine or ibuprofen might help? And Restavit is an over the counter sleeping pill, it's pretty strong and one pill should put you to sleep nicely. Or half might just help you chill out.

I've been using IV again since monday and my chest pain has returned. It's making me so paranoid but apparently it's normal.

I made it four days. Oh well. It got a little better by the third day. Mainly my body feels restless like I'm still cranked up but I hadn't done any in three days and if supposed to be out of your system in 5 I would have thought I would have been crashing pretty hard by day three...like sleeping.
Basically I started taking a crap ton of vitamin C, and B complex, and some trazodones to make me tired which worked for that but my body felt like it was still wigging so... I just went back to the stash. Unfortunately, have any amount sitting around makes it nearly impossible to resist.

I did wash some of it and the crystals came out pretty clear so I'm hoping a purer input will have a smaller impact on the other side. I have Dr's appt. this week so I will likely try again regardless. Thanks for the suggestions.

As for chest pain I started taking L-arginine. I saw it suggested somewhere and it helped. It didn't eliminate them but I could tell a difference. You might give it a try.
