king shit of fuck mountain :D
i am prescribed 15mgs each day of meloxicam (mobic) for an existing back injury that i also have twice-tri monthly cortisone injections for. while both offer serious relief and allow me to function normally, the mobic is playing havoc on my stomach and im hoping that someone is of better knowledge and or experience with NSAIDS long term and how to calm the stomach upset/intestinal side effects? i have tried various teas, dietary changes etc. and nothing seems to ease it up so far? any advice would be well appreciated. TIA. :D

ps. i also would love some advice on how to avoid or control the "frequent urination" side effect. ive tried limiting my fluids, increasing sodium with hydralite as to up my electrolytes yet limit fluid consumption without dehydration? the feeling is odd? and i can only liken it to being heavily pregnant and feeling as though something is constantly sitting on my bladder? i constantly feel the need to pee (my apologies for the terminology?) although when attempting to it rarely happens? and when it does i immediately feel it again urgently within a minute or so later? its frustrating. im aware that everything ive mentioned are somewhat common side effects of taking mobic, im just seeking insight on how to better control/or counteract them?

Proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole etc.) and antacids (tums etc.). Avoid antacids containing sodium salts. Look for potassium/magnesium/calcium hydroxides or carbonates.

I would personally try to switch from Meloxicam to some other NSAID.

Interesting that you mention this because when I had knee surgery a year ago I had the same problem.

The Meloxicam REALLY bothered my stomach and I had to stop taking them and switch to taking Naproxen because I needed to be on an NSAID to lower inflammation.

Fast forward a year and I am still getting over gastritis that was caused by taking the Meloxicam in the first place.

THAT's how much it bothered my stomach.

I had to get on Prilosec daily and it took a few months before I could eat and drink some of my favorite foods/drinks again even ON the prilosec.

Now I am slowly tapering off the Prilosec on to Pepcid AC which is working well and I'll probably be stomach-medication-free in a month or so, but that's how bad it was for my stomach, that I needed a whole new med for what it did to me.

So yeah, seems it's a medication that is hard on a lot of people's stomachs and I'd try to switch meds if you can but if not then ask your doc about Prilosec/proton pump inhibitors and also dietary changes.

If you have gastritis there are gastiritis diets that may help as well.
