Im looking to get more into meditation... How long do you normally mediate for? Any good tips on how to center your focus?

I try to choose a time to meditate where there are no time obligations, so I can meditate for however little or long that feels natural. Each session may have a different length. It depends how long it takes me to let go, or what kind of meditation I'm doing.

Recently I've been needing a lot more grounding meditations to help me be in the present moment (as opposed to projecting into the past or future), and to be more in my body. Sitting in a chair with the legs wider, the knees bent, and both feet firmly on the floor seems to help with this. If I'm standing, I make sure my legs are apart. It reminds me of the horse stance a bit in kung fu, but not as crouched. It makes me feel really solid and supported, and I visualize my feet becoming roots that run deep into the earth. Psychosomatically, it seems to make my energy go down. Hyperactivity of mind and body ceases, and I feel stronger. Makes the mind less flighty too.

If I'm on grass, soil, or sand, I really like to sink my feet in and feel the magnetic pull of the ground.

Other than that, I just do standard breathing meditations where you focus on breath until the mind is empty and still.

nice. I find it terrible hard to let go lately. Had a little bit too much fun (mdma) and caused a whole world of anxiety for me. that wont seem to let up. Trying to find my inner peace again.

how long? 60 seconds to 60 minutes. you can close your eyes at work and take a micro-break or you can sit at home and just be to de-stress

i dont know if I can help you find your path to inner peace

Well I dont think anyone can really help me find that lol.

I love meditation and find it greatly helps me with my anxiety and general awareness of my life. It would usually take a few minutes to really quiet my mind and focus on my mantra and then I would usually spend 10-30 minutes meditating.

I find it best in the morning or at night with AS MINIMAL of distractions as possible. It is so easy for a little "bump" or hearing someone talking in another room/outside and you will snap out of your meditation and your mind will wonder. I highly suggest meditating outside if you can and as close to the ground as you can. (obviously if you live in a big city this isn't really feasible)

Plus, if you are serious about getting into it meditation I highly suggest learning about the methods. There is a huge difference and a very fine line between sitting there like a dumbass with your eyes closed and actually meditating and silencing your mind.

15 minutes is a good place to start, the idea is you dont want to set a goal that you won't be able to reach
you can build up to an hour in the morning and an hour at night, but it takes a while to become comfortable with sitting that long
start with anapana breathing (focus all your attention on the ring on the inside of your nostril where the air flows in, and out)
you use your natural breath so dont try to control the breath, but if you are having trouble feeling it then you can have a few slightly stronger breaths so you are able to feel it
of course eyes closed the entire time you are meditating, opening your eyes for 1 second will distract you and ruin your focus

while you are learning to meditate you will experience something called 'monkey brain' which is where almost every 3 seconds, a thought or scenario from the past of future will pop into your head
simply give no importance to anything other than the awareness of your breath at that exact second and moment
also it is best if you stay as still as possible whilst having completely relaxed all the muscles in your body, and having a straight neck and back (a firm cushion under ur posterior will help with this)

theres so much to tell a novice meditator but i cant keep typing all day so check out this e-book

Hey pmz, I'm thinking about giving this a try as well. Have you found any good sources for getting started. Btw, how is the comedown at this point?

Do it. It works OK. My sleep seems to be getting worse unfortunately. Def calms ur mind a bit. Its hard tho when mind is always soo worried

I just try to find a dark quite room and focus on breathing as long as I can. I'll get more focused as I go on I guess
